I'm Stupid! How do you create MP3s from a cd?

Yes, as the title suggests, I'm dumb and don't know how to create an MP3 from a cd. I'm looking to create an MP3 CD to play in my car (hoping to get a lot more on a CD than normal). Or at the very least burn some files onto my work computer. I can't afford a MP3 player right now so that's not an option.

Also, anyone know if you can burn the audio from a dvd onto a CD somehow? I have a lot of concert DVDs that I would love to listen to on my drive into work.

Please don't flame me too hard! I'm not the most tech savvy person alive.

Get this program: Audiograbber

Then, get the LAME codec: LAME

(Both are free btw.)

First you have to unzip/copy all the LAME files into Audiograbber's root directory (it defaults to C:/audiograbber, so paste everything there - should be 16 files, you don't need to paste all of them but it doesn't hurt to do so). Then put a CD in your drive, open up Audiograbber, and wait for it to load up the tracks. It will try to connect to an ID3 tag database to tag all the songs (i.e., write out the track titles). Click on the MP3 icon at the top. There is a drop down menu in the middle of the screen. Select the LAME codec. You can change the bit rate just below (higher = better quality but takes up more space). 192Kb should be sufficient for most people. Also there is an option in here to say if you want to rip a CD to a wav file, an mp3 file, or both. If you just want MP3 choose the last/fourth option (direct rip and encode to MP3).

Back to the main menu screen. If you want, you can change the Normalize settings (essentially prevent screeching/not hearing anything during a song).

Again back to the main menu. Click on Settings. There's a folder at the top - you specify where you want AG to rip the songs too. So after it rips you'll need to go to that folder to find your music.

After you've set all that up, go back to the main menu and click Grab. It will then begin to rip the songs.

That's the gist of it, I only wrote a crash course for you, but if you have more questions just post here.

Can't help ya with the DVD stuff, but try googling "DVD ripper" or "DVD audio ripper." If I have some free time I'll look around. It probably is essentially the same process I just described above with AG.

That's what I was gonna suggest. Just make sure to choose MP3 as your format under the Rip Settings option.
 
First you've got to decrypt the dvd image from the disc using DVDdecrypter. After this you need to demultiplex the audio track from the video track (this can be done with dejig). After this you need to convert the audio track you got (might be an .ac3 file or something) to an mp3, but the mp3 also has to be in 44.1kHz (dvd audio is 46 kHz). Needless to say its not easy and I don't have time to write out a full guide. Try using BeSweet for the sampling conversion. Try http://www.videohelp.com for usage of these tools or
