I'm thinking of getting another PSP. But I've read about the 3000 and I don't know if it's worth getting I watched the video review on CNET and it looks more to me like they were saying bad things about it.
Is it worth it or should I get a 2000? It said in the video review the 3000's screen looks better when playing outside. What does it mean by that?
Does it get brighter outside because I don't want to end up with a pretty dark screen inside. I was really looking at the colored PSP's I wanted the red God of War PSP but it looks like it's hard to get one that doesn't cost 300$
So I was looking at the Ghost of Sparta but then I decided against it because of the coloring. So then today I looked at the Peace Walker one and the color looks pretty cool but what I don't know if it's a 2000 or a 3000. I also was looking at the White/Silver PSP's and the Gamestop exclusive for birth by sleep. But It looks like the only good offer with that one is the 50 free songs from Sony Music.

Sorry if this seems long I just wanted to say my problem and hope to find a solution.

All PSP retail release from 2009 should be -3000 models.

The GoW:GoS bundle should be USD $200 from Amazon with their free shipping.

The PSP 3000 screen is great. I have a modded 2000 and an regular 3000, the 2000 is darker, that's why the 3000's are called brites. They have a brighter screen than the 2000, making them better suited for outdoor play. You may see occasional interlacing but I really don't notice it with the exception of a few games that push the system. VC2 looks beautiful on my 3000(even with a cracked screen), if you're playing PS1 classics then you won't really notice anything except maybe a crispier screen on the 3000, the 2000 is just slightly muted in comparison. The only complaint I've seen that I can't verify is that Prinny looks like crap on a 3000, if I end up picking it up I'd definitely compare the two.

I'm going to plug kmart here. They've been doing various sales on the psp systems. I believe right now there is a "soft bundle" sale which basically gives you a $40 gaming coupon if you buy kingdom hearts BBS (which you mentioned in your post) and a psp system.

I have a psp go and cannot seen the screen on that thing outside at all. They (the psp systems) just weren't designed to be played outside in my opinion.

That's true on a used copy for one it's almost 150$
But on a New one it's a lot more.

Does anyone know of a price drop happening.

Also that monster hunter PSP looks nice but waiting for the release date might make me a bit impatient.

Does anyone know what colors were released stateside?

Also what version is the GoW PSP?

Also is the Interlacing a fatal problem like will it brick your PSP?

Also is it possible to buy a PSP that is just a different color. I don't really want another black one.

@Reno

The 3000's screen is a legit upgrade in every way from the 2000's. It's brighter, more vibrant, and ghosting is practically non-existent. The interlacing issue isn't anything to be concerned over -- it's nonexistant. It's like going up to your TV, putting your nose against it, and complaining that you can see lines and grain.

It's fairly easy to find a great deal on a bundle these days, I'd keep on eye on the Amazon warehouse for one. Even the normal MSRP price is a good deal.

As for colors, I don't believe you have an option besides Black in the states, unless of course you buy a bundle (Ratchet is silver, Assassin's Creed is white, MGS is camo, etc...). I personally payed the extra money a long time ago to get a pearl white one from Japan but I'm nuts like that.

Well I'm thinking of getting one used off Amazon.
Right now probably the God of War bundle because it's going for 145$
For used.

But if a new bundle comes out while I'm saving or if that one sales I might go for a different one. Who knows.

Do you have a screen shot of the new PSP ghosting?
To see what I'm getting into.
If anything I'll get the Assassin's Creed PSP cause it looks cool.
But I want to make sure I'm making a great investment on a 3000.

Piano Black and Ceramic White are the two default colors for PSPs. The bundled ones come in various different flavors. I have the Assassin's Creed PSP and it's white with like sparkly underlayering, it being white though, you will get dirt on the thumb pad of the analog stick and it doesn't like to come off.

I've never seen my PSP 3000 ghost.

Interlacing is not fatal, chances are you watched it on TV at one point or another. It's just the way the pixels are put up on the screen. The p in 480, 720 and 1080p stands for progressive, the i stands for interlaced. People make a huge deal about interlacing but it's really nothing to even really think about.

Only other thing to note is the PSP 3000 is a little lighter than the 2000 by like an ounce or two, it's not really noticable but go to a gamestop and compare the two in hand to see what weight you prefer. The 2000 feels more solid but the 3000 has a better screen basically.

Thanks now the hard part is just picking out the PSP. :cold:

Don't know if you'd want to shell out the extra money for a new one, but Play Asia sells a lot of Japanese PSP-3000's in different colors for ~220$ plus shipping.

Thanks for all your help guys.
But I just read the review on IGN about the 3000 about the interlacing and scan lines. And it said that they're really noticeable when your scanning really fast through the Menu.

Is it it a good investment? I'm just wondering if it's worth getting one even with the screen problem.
My brother has a 2000 and I mean I had a used one to but I never had a problem with the screen.

I'm just about OCD about stuff that does that kind of thing.

Could somebody break it down about the PSP 3000 for me?
Also do the 2000 and the 3000 have the same size of screen?

3000 screen is absolutely better than 2000's.
It has been said many many times...

I understand your anxiety, but ppl continue to buy 3k and are happy with their purchase. Beside the initial "reviews" by some when 3k was first made available, do you see ppl make a big deal of it?

Anyway, if your brother has Crisis Core, just have him load it and look at the intro movie and till me how that ghosting kills your eyes. It is not there on 3k.

Or... you can just go to a walmart or other store and look at the psp (if store still carry them... ) and see for yourself.

Technical spec, there are so many pages on it on the web. If you can find all the reviews about how horrible the screen is, you can find screen size info... but fyi, they are the same in screen size... 4.3"

Anyway, how many ppl are needed to tell you that 3000 screen is better before you are comfortable with it... Just go get one and see for yourself. If you are OCD about this, I can't imagine that you are willing to buy used... and abused system. Go buy one from store, return when not satisfied. Problem solved. You now have the *definitive* answer to how the screen compares (using your bro's 2k) to your own very eyes.

Scanlines are noticeable. I got the Mystic Silver PSP BbS bundle, and the scanlines are very apparent, but you get use to them. Another problem is the 3k is TOO thin, it's uncomfortable to hold this thing. I had a 1k for a week and it was quite comfortable to hold, except it got hot after awhile.

All in all it's going to take time going from a controller and TV to a handheld, so don't except to splooge all over it soon after getting it. I've had it a week and just starting to conform to it. If you want a PSP now then do it, but if you can wait maybe Sony's next system will be better.

The 2000 and 3000 are almost the exact same thickness. The analog stick looks better on the updated one but I'm sure that's a part you can swap out as a replacement(I'm hoping) since the analog nub sucks for extended use.

I'm dying for that Monster Hunter 3000 and I don't even really like the games. I think I'm going to sell my Rachet bundle silver 3000 to help fund it.

I guess I'm just afraid that the scanlines will happen all the time and every time I play a game. But I read a post on a forum and they said they didn't have a problem with it.

But can you still see the image clearly even with the scan lines?

Because I saw the Laharl and Darth Vader comparison pictures and the post I read said that those pictures are exaggerating a lot.

Maybe I should just watch a video sometime.

NO problems with the -3000 for a gamer that also has a -2000. I have not heard anyone trading in -3000 for -2000, and I am sure that many see no probs with -3000.

Keep in mind, people like to be the critic.

I'm sort of ashamed to admit that I've owned each incarnation of PSP but they are all improvements over the previous generation (well apart from the Go).

What's a -3000 PSP?

The 3000 is the model that's being sold in stores right now. 2000 hasn't been on shelves for a couple years now and the 1000 is the original PSP that I'm still rocking.

I want this as well. I have a stupid question: Would the software, menus etc be in Japanese?

You can change the language setting.
There are only 2 noteworthy differences.

1. X and O are reversed in menu.
2. Can't play US UMD Movies. (do they still release movie on UMD? other than Sony Pictures?)

I have 1x US 2k, 2x LE JPN 3k and have the MHP3 PSP ordered.

Awesome, thank you!

I was all about the GO until I saw that MH edition. If those enhancements get carried over to a non-MH branded PSP I will get that. Unless, of course, there is a good deal on GO's this holiday.
