In case you need a reminder-- never order used games from EB or gamestop.com

Because there's a damn good chance you'll get something like this:

Needless to say this is unplayable. It's also disc only. It came in a generic dvd case, but was in a paper sleeve inside the case. When I opened the package, the flap of the sleeve was open and the game was sticking out of it, like this:

My last order, sometime early last summer, had pretty much the same results and I swore off the site then, but I wanted a playable copy of MvC2 so I could hold on to my complete copy in my collection.

That was my only expectation for this order--not complete, not mint, just a playable disc. And I didn't even get that  :bomb:
Do they have a return policy for online that lets you return to store?
yes, luckily.
sorry but all someone can really reply to this is:
really? they only send out broken games?
really? they only send out broken games?
My point is that you know the quality of the used games in store and it is few and far to find a complete copy that the disc is in good shape, so what did you expect buy getting this way?

not every game is messed up in store. usually when I go to hoard copies of games to sell on ebay, I find mint and complete ones. I wouldn't call it "few and far [between]" to find a complete copy at all.

my expectations for this game were in the post, read it!
Call 'em up and raise some hell. You'll get one that way.
just did. They told me I had to drop off the game with UPS, get a tracking #, call them back with the tracking #, hope and pray they hadn't sold out of the game by then, and then receive one of their very last copies via 3 day UPS. but if they didn't have any more copies, I would have to call back and check in again to see if I could set up a refund. this is easily the worst return process I've ever heard of.

when I asked if I could get one that didn't look like it was rubbed on concrete, they told me there was no way to assure that. What the fuck? Do they only have deaf and blind mutes working in the packing department? Is the packing department unionized and have a stipulation against taking a simple request?

I guess it's not the CS guy's fault, it sounds like they just have poor management, but this was horrible CS. I'm just going to return or exchange it.

Wow that game is going to be hard to come up with multi-copies for exchanges so do not keep your fingers crossed. I am surprised they could not just tell you if you if they had more in stock or just give you an option to return in store.

Well good luck with that. There CS has always sucked even before they were the giant they are now or even before this merge. I ordered a Dreamcast game online from them one time (figure this is when the Dreamcast was new) and it took 2 months to come. I paid more for shipping up front to get it fast with no luck. All they told me and in a bitchy way that it was mailed. When I finally got the damn thing I looked at the post mark on the box and it was sent out a week before I got it. So they sat on it all that time saying it was mailed knowing it was not.

So goes to show you the Merge with those stores was just the icing on the cake seeing they both ran a half ass company..

Sorry about being harsh I just figured people should expect things like this from EB/Gamestop by now..

this is why it says "reminder" in the title. I knew this, but I figured this was especially bad, so I posted it. I mean, scratches on the bottom are normal, but a scratched top is ridiculous.

Last time I went to EBgames I went and looked at the Bin of $9.99 and under games.

Needless to say I was happy to find a complete copy of devil may cry and okage: the shadow king.

Well I was with my daughter so she was driving me nuts at the time because she was grabbing everything.. Well didn't check over the disc's like I usually do so when I got home I looked and this was the results.

First off I will say the 2 disc's were flawless I got lucky on that, but he gave me a GH copy of DMC and for some reason there was scotch tape around the hole in the center of the Okage disc?

No point in the tape because I peeled it all off and there was nothing wrong with the disc (if anyone knows why someone may have done that it would be great)
Normally I would of went back raising hell but the disc's were mint and they had box and instructions so I was satisfied. Still does not excuse them for putting a GH copy in a non gh game and how could they not see that tape on that disc ?

Oh well thats the chance you take with those stores.
As far as putting gh versions of a game in a non-gh case or vice versa that always happens.
Had to laugh because I went and looked at it again and on the case it says in the corner "part of set not for resale" lol so its from the DMC anniversary thing

they did that so that the fat ps2 can hold the disc better or sumthing, it was a trick with the fat ps2 i know that

These stores give you next to nothing for your used games, so why buy them for $5 - $10 cheaper than their new games. For me it was the pre order harassment. "if you don't pre order it, you won't get it on day !" Ok well I will just go to any other store that sells games and get it there instead. Is that ok with you?

I only go there if I can't find something anywhere else. The first time i've been there in at least a year was a month ago when I bought Odin Sphere.

Ah, so you were one of the few who ordered it from their website when it was briefly available? Good luck on getting an exchange but that's doubtful you'll get anything, and you'll likely end up waiting 15 days for a refund while they earn interest on your payment.

Gamestop should update their disclaimer "May not include box and instructions"
to what it is "Do not expect box and instructions. May have been previously used as a dog's frisbee."
I was so so so so so lucky getting a mint/complete copy of Futurama off the site..
update on plankton plz!!!

You should try exchanging it in store. I have had a couple orders come with really messed up games and took it to my local GS. They looked at the reciept, and exchanged it with in in-store copy no problems.
I dont know if I have a nice gamestop or what but its worth a try if any of the ones near you has a MvC2 game - in store.

it's still available online (feeling lucky?) I just returned it in store. there are only 4 stores where I live and most gamers around here are wise not to trade in MvC2.

I was going to wait to exchange it at a Chicago area store (where my folks live), but both the CS reps on the phone and clerks in the store were unclear whether an in-store exchange of an online game should go by the online store's 30 day policy or the store's 7 day policy.

I really hope the amazon buy-out rumors are true cause this company is a mess.
Well, Marvel vs Capcom 2 for the PS2 just got more rare
yes, 1 more dead copy. I think that means only 999 are left :D
Yikes. Now I'm dreading my copy of Electroplankton. Should be in the mail today or tomorrow.
a cart game should be fine

Who knows whose ass it's been up, though? There's also the case/manual ordeal, but that's different from the "thrown under the lawnmower" look your MVC2 has going on.
really? they only send out broken games?
Well, most of the time their in stock items on the website is usually defective games sent back to the warehouse to be resurfaced. That probably explains why the disc is in such questionable condition. That's also why they usually have such limited stock in for DS games.

you'll be very lucky to get a case and manual, and expect that the cart will too be shipped in a paper cd sleeve.

The order before my last one, about 2 or 3 years ago, was for Ikaruga for the gamecube--it came in a large cardboard box, in an open paper cd sleeve (with no dvd case), which it had escaped from during transit.

serious issues in the packing dept over there ;)

Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought this, but...what are the chances that games sent back to them due to screw ups like this will end up just being put back on sale?

I've had a fair share of employees who would be told a game doesn't work, take it back, and then put it back on the shelf after finishing with the customer.

I think it's REALLY astounding that they can even say that they can't assure the quality of the games they're sending out. They're basically saying they KNOW some of their games are broken and they can't bother to test them.

I thought we all knew not to buy from GameStop/EB online or in store outside of scammable sales..

I have to be ripping them off to enter those wretched stores.

Hum... fuck you. You got exactly what you deserve, for two reasons. A: For being a hoarding fuckwad and B: For being dumb enough to buy a used game from gamestop.com KNOWING how shitty they are. Go whine somewhere else.

you're a tard, it was sarcasm. I was just joking around with Derrick1979 because of a previous thread he had made. even without the reference to his thread, why the hell would I post that?

The B+M stores can be useful if you can catch a game you want through the store locater. Plus, at ~$55 shipped for this game after a 25% off coupon code, it was well worth trying, seeing as how much it goes for elsewhere.

and no "we" don't all know not to buy from there-- not everyone on this site is a game purchasing veteran.

This is exactly why I don't bother ordering online... sure they may have that ultra rare game but I'd rather find a copy in store that looks like it's in decent shape and includes the case/manual.

You CAN find perfect copies of a game in store, you just have to check the disc before you buy it. Some employees will be really hesitant to show you the disc before you buy though, as if they have something to hide, which they do! Sometimes you get nice employees though, its like every other retail store, employees vary by store location. Also consider that with the employee purges gamestop does its pretty much hit or miss on the employees.

I found several perfect gamecube games at lower than ebay prices because by chance someone who got recently hired at the store traded in his whole collection of video games basically to get the latest systems. He was a collector who kept games in mint condition. Hmm maybe this is WHY gamestop purges employees so much, each round of new employees brings tons of employee trade ins!

As far as online, I wouldn't trust it unless you are ordering brand new games. New games will come new from the gamestop online store. I usually order new with the SAVER code when there is a game with bonus listed when the bonus is not available anymore in the store.

There are a few people at my local GS who usually go through the discs and check them before they give them to me.

Most notably when I bought Yakuza last week. The employee was looking at the discs until he found the best one.
(insert sarcastic counter remark here)
Hmm. I agree with this sentiment, however.

No plankton yet. Tomorrow, I hope.

Same thing happens to me all the time when I go to Gamestop, I even ask for Original than GH, and there like "Uhh why? There the same thing", >_>
on the reciept,I think it says that if you bought them from ebgames.com,you have 30 days to return it.
yeah, the guys I called and the people at the store were not filled in about whether that applies in store, since it doesn't specify (I don't think it even tells you in-store returns are okay.)
(insert random whining here)
well...I did just want this to be about the online service (I actually like the stores for a couple different reasons. Not that I wouldn't mind a complete overhaul of their policies and pricing.) but I guess it's as good as any opportunity to bitch about the entire establishment.

I just received an order of 5 games, only TWO of which had the right discs in the cases. One of them had the wrong disc, two had no discs at all!! GRRRR:bomb:

Don't order from Gamestop/EB online. End of discussion. Don't do it. Ever. Even if they have candy. Thread over. Stop doing it. Stop buying from them! Stop!

Damn, and I've been tempted to order MvC2 on Xbox from their site. I guess I'll just hope for a certain site to get a cheap used copy again.

......and when did this GS start selling this game for $79.99 on ps2?
