I can't believe Heihachi is back again. As much as I love the series, I'm getting pretty sick of the cast. They need a 3s or T3 style makeover. Only bring back Jin (but make him older), Hwoarang (again, older) and maybe Yoshi. Seriously though this is getting played out. :bomb:

on an unrelated note, anyone notice the similarity between the boss fight video that Apossum posted and the Apocalypse fight from XvSF? Is it supposed to be a parody or something?

I don't think it's that bad with the character thing... + namco already said that this one would have the largest character roster ever... I just hope that means there will be a large selection of NEW NEW chars as well... :)

But it makes me glad knowing that most/if not all old chars will be making a comeback...

I noticed that myself, never played Melty Blood [that's what I think it was] but it had me thinking of Apocalypse THE WHOLE TIME, except for the fact that there was never that much air in it [no super jump] but it was waaay similar

which then in turn got me thinking, have there ever been any glitches or hacks to be able to play as the HUUUGE bosses in the VS games?

There's a code to play as Apocalypse in the PS1 version of XvSF. I'm sure there is a MAME hack as well.

You can also play as Onslaught in the DC version of MvC.

edit: GGs to Asian. I think we just played like 20 matches in 3s. I whiffed the full parry on the Shinku-Hadoken and it ended up costing me one of the rounds. Good times.

I haven't read the Tsukihime manga (or anything related to it) but I know there wasn't a giant Akiha in the anime. It's probably a parody of XvC.
I missed out on 3S??
Yes you did. Are you out of school yet? Can we expect you to be on XBL for 3S and Gears a lot more?

GG's Jim. I was really lucky to squeak out even 1 let alone 2 wins against you. Sir, you are a beast at 3S.

I can be made to play 3S and Gears pretty much whenever. It's just a matter of whether or not I have my 360 on since it's not like I'd be playing anything else on there. Speaking of which, 3s now?
Speaking of which, 3s now?
I'm down. Sorry for the delay, I just got Clerks II on HD and I wanted to make sure it worked.

Gah, I broke down and got the hrap2 from arcade-shock. The only reason I absolutely had to post this useless-who-cares-only-me info on the board is because I have to say that this guy ships mega, ultra, super fast. I ordered Friday night (Hawaii time) and it got to me this morning via USPS Priority. Jeezus! Well, I have nothing to play on PS2 until July when all the fighters I ordered from PA arrive, but I guess I will try hooking it up to my DC to see how it works with those games.
Good games again, Asian. Had to quit for 24.
It's all good. The games are getting more fun now that we are evenly matched. I have to learn how to taunt.

Not sure about anyone else in here, but I'm always interested in hearing about the new stuff everyone in here gets. If the item is fighting game related, it makes it all the better :)

I hope you like that stick. Though I already have 2 PS2 sticks and 1 Dreamcast stick, I'm thinking of investing in a HRAP1 in the near future. How much did you pay for it...$120+?

man, my local fox channel said "stay tuned for another episode of House" after the first one. then 24 came on :(

anyway, who are you guys using in 3rd strike?

fun fact: taunts actually power you up some how in 3S.

For Q, at least.

I use pretty much everyone though. Yun is my best character but I absolutely CANNOT play him in this version. I basically pick everyone except Ibuki, Elena, Twelve, Oro and Necro.

I hear it's easier to play the game with the vision cam...

as for controls, I played through single player a bit and for no reason the d-pad never let me do supers when I wanted, but did it when I didn't... fuck the guy who designed the circle.

Oh yeah, I will force myself to like it because it was $145 shipped.

Actually, now that I think about it, my ass does sting a little. Ouch.

Anyway, it's certainly not cheap by any means, but it's a well regarded stick that's imported and was primarily available online-only in Japan. I have (or will have) enough 2D fighters and shmups to make it worth my while. At least that is what I told my wallet before I raped it....

Funny you mention that, as I was reading about it last night in the SFA guide I picked up from the Brady Games clearance over a year ago. So far, I've concluded that I'm really horrible at this game...
Anyone wanna play 3s?
I Suck :)

I would hop on, but I'm waiting for my cousin to give me a call and I hate giving the silent treatment to friends.

Is he calling to convince you to pick up Halo 2? Because you really should.

Usually I play as either Ryu or Alex. I started messing around with Necro recently for fun.
Good pickup on the HRAP2, it's definately a popular stick amongst fighting game/shmup fans...

I would call you a loser and a nerd, but I'm just jealous and I know damn well that's probably not going to change. Hella sticks there, and I respect such commitment.

I'm waiting to pick it up once they replace the '2' with a '3'...
For Q, at least.
nah they power up everybody.

when u do a taunt, your next attack goes up by a percentage.

it's different for each chara, but multiple taunts can stack the damage increase.

but once your attack connects, gets blocked, or u get hit, the increase goes away.

Q and Twelve are exceptions I believe. Q's taunt increases defense while 12's makes him invisible.

Q is real easy to learn, but he's hard to use becoz he has a hard time defending against more top tiers.

his command grab has a huge window of opportunity!! if u feel you're close enough and do not think your opponent will outprioritize you, take the risk and throw one out!

there are also many ticks u can use before the command throw: jab, strong (whiffed), UOH, jumping jab are the bests I can think of.

his meter builder, all around great poke is forward. I think the courching version is good too, but regular standing version has good range, speed, and priority.

if u perform short close to your opponent, it's more of a stomp than a kick, and can be canceled into qcb+p, super, or charge back->forward+p.

his charging move can also be canceled into a super as well.

with all that said, just learn his command throw combos / juggles and then u will kno most of his moves.

after that it's all about figuring out ways how to use those moves

thx... I'll work on it. Note: I love his self destruct super.

I've seen that stick collection in an older thread, and it still amazes me.

One thing I forgot to mention about arcade shock is that the guy included a nice poster of two of the SNK fighter chicks in a bar together. I forgot it at work, but I may try to get a picture of it up in here... :p

If I ever get a jamma/supergun set up, I'll try to buy from him again--they had an interesting selection of brand new Cave shooter PCB kits. Expensive, though...

yeah, taunts power you up in some fashion, not always with extra damage but generally they're not as useful as Q's defense boost. you'll rarely see anyone taunt with chun or yun for example. some have alternate uses, like dudley's taunt which is used to keep people pinned on wakeups.

man, i need a signature or avatar or something, otherwise people pass over my posts so easily. =P

all this talk about taunts has me going for playing some Bryan Fury... his taunt his probably the scariest in all gaming due to its ability to break your block and the fact that it can cancel into anything!!!

Why would folks not want to use Yun's taunt? It's a full attack increase for his specials. The longer you hold down the buttons would increase the attack, though...

Yup, that's it. You can hold down the button to charge, depending on character. I believe Makoto can charge by repeating HP+HK up to eight times in succession?

Why didn't you guys play 3s a year or two ago when I had a X-Box live account? Just out of curiosity what's everybody's rank? I'm not sure but I think I made it to "F or G Rank" before my X-Box live expired.

I'm in the same boat as Rolento. I can't pull a super off in 3S to save my life. We really need a new stick for the 360. I'd buy it right away.
Why would folks not want to use Yun's taunt? It's a full attack increase for his specials. The longer you hold down the buttons would increase the attack, though...
The attack increase is really small. I know that Ken's taunt also increases attack and occasionally you see it being used when the opponent is cornered and knocked down, but the taunt does such a minimal damage increase that's it almost not noticeable.

As for Yun, if you play him in SA3, there's never really any time to sit there and taunt, let alone taunt for a while. If you're turtling, taunting takes too long and you could be knocked out of it, plus you're too busy pumping out c.mp and sj.hp to build up his meter. If you're rushing him down, there's no real time to taunt either since you're always keeping the pressure on. On knockdowns (the best time to taunt for any character), most players do c.mp x2 to build up meter, or use meaty/whiff divekicks to setup their next attack.

If you have the opportunity, you might as well use it.

360 gets here tomorrow.

I'll wreck some jive suckas at 3S tomorrow night with Makoto and Ibuki :bouncy:

by wreck, I mean "lose to"

I hope I can get a Saturn like controller for my 360 for fighting games. The lack of great response from the control pad is killing me online.

I mentioned this earlier, but I believe there's only the Hori DOA4 stick for 360 and that's OOP. You can find it on ebay or maybe get lucky at an EB/GS, if you don't already have one.

There's that Mad Catz stick, but that's mainly for non-fighting XBLA games.

I think X-Arcade was trying to get a custom stick going, but Microsoft has had the lock on 360 controllers. I don't know why they won't license out for joysticks at least--I mean, there's not a lot of 2D stuff for the system anyway, so what are they going to lose? I'd think they'd have more to gain by making XBLA more accessible with those types of controllers...

That's around when everyone ditched their Xbox for a 360, thus nulling the fact that they can play 3s due to it not being BC... now that has changed :)

Man, this sub is heavy... fuck. Got it moved though and I have it in an unobtrusive space. I don't even need to move any furniture! Tomorrow, I'll have the cables I need to... y'know... use this stuff.
