In search of a new Digital Camera

Anything $300 or thereabouts would be great. I don't really know what to look for in a digital camera. The old one I have, it's hard to see anything on the screen when it's dark so it's hard to frame a shot. I'd also prefer a Sony as I have a VAIO that I'll be transferring to with the MemoryStick during my trip. Less cables, less hassle. If you could suggest some good ones, though, regardless of brand, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I didn't even know they came out with 7MP cameras. 5MP is already overkill unless you're making a huge-ass poster. I'll probably just go with a 3.2MP camera. I'll wade through the reviews. Thanks.

check out the older cannon power shot reviews. They used be top of the line, and imagine they probably still hold up well

For the Sony DSC-W1, how is it in low-light conditions. I know with another Sony model I have if there isn't a direct light source on the subject, it looks pitch black on the screen so it's hard to frame a shot. Does it lighten up the scene on the screen so you can see in those conditions?

This may help:

I'm picking up the Sony DSC-W1 this week for the missus for Xmas. We have a Sony camcorder (already have the memory sticks) and a Sony TV with a memory card slot on it so seems logical to get a Sony digital camera. Bestbuy.com has it for like $315 right now PLUS there's a $50 mail-in rebate.

Hope this helps.

I picked up the Sony DSC-P150 (7.2MP) It can be had for around $400 or less (there was a $50 rebate out there)

You can get the DSC-P100 (the 5.0MP version for $50-$100 cheaper)

Also, the Canon S60 (5MP) or S70 (7MP) are good ideas.

Here is a W1 review also: They compare it to the P100 (I guess it depends if you want to use AA batteries or a lithium one) I personally like Lithium, as it seems you can eat through AA's

Sony has been good to me....although, a lot recommend Canon

Thanks guys. I've narrowed it down to a Sony model since I already have other Memory Sticks lying around and the convenience with the VAIO and TV w/ Memory Stick slots. Still worried about the screen's visibility in darker conditions, but from the looks of it, Sony does better in that than the other makers.

go to shopper.com and look at digital cameras. You can sort on price ranges and read reviews if they have any..

Can anyone help me here too? I'm looking for a new Digital Camera as well. Specifically I want a fast shutter speed or at least fast enough that when I click it feels like a regular camera, at minimum 3 MP that's nice and clear regardless of indoor or outdoor, easy to setup or clear in the instructions on how to setup and has a good Optical zoom. Oh and I want one that does movies as well. Are there any cameras like this that range from $100-300?

Thanks man. Oh and for clarification on indoor I especially want good pics in low light conditions. I plan to be taking screenshots of certain games in arcades.

Check out the reviews at pcworld.com or go to a B&M Wolfe or any other camera store and talk to one of the guys who eat, sleep, and breathe cameras. I found it really helpful in making a decision. Beware camera store price can be higher than BB, or online stores. Wolfe camera has like a insurance plan that covers accidents which is kindof cool. I seem to drop cameras a lot. Butterfingers is my name LOL.
.

So how do you like the W1? And how much did you end up paying? (A cheap-ass has to know as I just bought this one for my wife)

Getting a Canon S1 IS. Now it's just the matter of finding the lowest price along with Next Day shipping or two day tomorrow where I can sign for it up at the hub near the airport.
Any help here?
