You play a person with a super power in this PS3 title and can choose whether to be a hero or an anti-hero.

You say that like it's a bad thing! Seriously, I liked Crackdown, but it certainly has its flaws. A game that took the concept and tried to build upon it could be great.

I know, this thread is quite old, but GI has new info on this game finally.
- "Infamous begins with a serene, panoramic skyview view of EMpire City on the title screen, with the words "press start flashing". ..once you push start, a massive explosion rips through the heart of the city. Six city blocks are consumed by flame...in the center, a man named Dylan staggers to his feet."
- Dylan doesn't know how he got his powers and starts out apathetic. He then becomes invest in the city...or you can choose not to be at all.
- Dylan can run up rooftops, scrambles across building archtecture, and can seek cover in unlikely nooks and crannies.
- Sucker Punch striving for simple controls to do not so simple things
- Empire City has 3 islands
- After the explosion, the city falls into chaos. A plague makes the govt. quarentine the city. Gangs are formed.
- Dylan's abilities evolve throughout the game
- One fight saw Dylan and his friend Zeke against a bunch of guard. A couple of choices include zapping the mobs and flinging them off the bridge, or using your electricity on the environment (i.e. power generators that may be nearby) to create explosions.
- Sucker Punch says "The hero's powers and te storyline are in support of the gameplay."
- Dylan cannot use firearms since his powers are "always on" (meaning he would set off the gunpowder in bullets). The powers can complicate your actions within the world.
- There will be other "villians" with their own powers that come into play. As well as other normal enemies with powers.
- - Infamous isn't structured like other open world games with a marker on the mini map for your next mission. The team's goal is to create a world where events unfold naturally.
- For example, you're on your way to disarm a bomb, but you notice a woman in the street bleeding and screaming. Time is ticking. What do you do? Your actions affect the world at large. Hence "Infamous".
- Karma system keeps track of your actions ( I assume without showing you? Not sure). Your actions affect the actions of the citizens of the city. They may fight with you or ignore you or even help fight against you. Karma also factors into how your abilities develop.

I'm kind of surprised the main character isn't Nathan.

Good news to see the game is still coming (glad the one rumor was false about it being in serious trouble).
I'm noticing a trend in Sony second party developers...

At least Insomniac is still delivering Ratchet.
Insomniac also does Resistance. Every gen, Sony does have the majority of their devs just make new IPs that better suit a newer platform (because Sly for example, there isn't much more they can do with it on PS3 to make it feel more next gen, since it was designed with the PS2 in mind. Although I love Ratchet on PS3, it got some negatives because it was kind of like the PS2 ones with better graphics).

I agree there should be new IPs, but do they all have to be generic dark haired white guys with guns?

Imagine an adventure game in the style of The Incredibles or Team Fortress 2 with Sucker Punch or Naughty Dog behind it.

This sounds like it will either be incredible or a miserable failure without much middle ground. I'm hoping for the first option.

That don't make up for his gay name. Btw dude mad props to you in that one thread, about how you forget your wallet saving your life in all.

I was a huge fan of Sly Cooper, so I'm naturally very excited about this. I'm not sure I like the new serious quasi-realistic direction they're going, but perhaps I'm just reluctant to change. I mean if they could pull of Sly so well they could probably do the serious stuff too. A bit like Valve going from Half-Life to Portal, only in reverse. Coincidentally, I have a friend who got a job at Sucker Punch last year and this is his first game. And I know what you're thinking, but I was a fan of Sucker Punch long before my friend started working there. This is my second reason to buy a PS3 this year (other than MGS4).

Well, consider this:

With the experience Sucker Punch gets from making this open world game, perhaps they can make the next Sly Cooper an open world game where the Sly goes around a cartoonish city stealing stuff. More open world platforming. Now that'd be interesting.
Looks nice, I hope it turns out to be a hit like Assassin's Creed
Good lord, I hope it's better than that.

I've liked Sucker Punch since their "Rocket: Robot on Wheels" days, but I have to admit, I'm not seeing much of a hook for this game so far; it's still pretty much "Crackdown with lightside/darkside choices" at this point. Hopefully more info will set off the light-bulb for me.

just to bump this a bit gameinformer had a rather large spread on this in their latest Mag. It looks very interesting kind of surprised the buzz for it is this low key here :/.

yeah the way they describe powers seems very static shock like your right though I imagine they would take a darker edge to the whole thing. The GTA part I dunno it looks more like crackdown to me than GTA.

That wasn't the best of videos since the person playing wasn't that good. I saw a live demonstration on some website during E3 with a much better player.

In this video the aiming and movement looks troublesome, but in the video I saw he aimed fine and used cover as needed. He even used on of the bigger abilities, which was to call down a massive lightning storm on an area, and showed the boss fight that comes after this segment.

Still, the graphics are pretty good.

The graphics look great. The animation looks a bit choppy at some points but that could either be the video or just the fact that it still has some time to go in development.

I loved the Sly Copper series on the PS2 so I am easily willing to give this one a chance.
