Well, just got home from 10 hours in the bitter cold at Best Buy, but I got one! Even if it is only a core, but what can ya do. I have to go pick it up in an hour, hopefully someone falls asleep and forgets about their premium. not bloody likely. anyway, the place was packed by 10pm last night!

So anyway, I was just listening to the radio-- sounds like there's a lot of bad stuff going down around chicago about this launch, people getting in fist fights, tramplings and stuff like that. Gonna be a lot of unhappy campers this Xmas season, hopefully that 2nd shipment gets out soon!

yeah, so share any crazy stories here!

I feel ya, I'm sitting here with a CORE ticket from Target and I can't decide if I'm just gonna end up getting that and a memory card or wait for the premium to get back in stock...

called sears, said they were getting them in today, got online at 12 pm., I was the 4th inline. 8AM rolls around the dum manager comes out and says they didn't get there shipment in. That the store got an email from the wherehouse saying that they wont be getting any in. I was about to burn sears down. iam not happy, thats for damn sure.

I went into a heated building at 10pm last night, played lots of guitar hero, Perfect Dark Zero, and Mario Kart with other people, bought my pre-ordered system, play and charge kit, and 6 games, paying off the remaining balance of $12.36. I then went home and played Perfect Dark and CoD2 all night.

How horrible. I don't understand why people don't plan these things out ahead of time so they don't have to camp out at a store.

I woke up this morning, looked outside...its dark, pouring rain and like 48 degrees...said "screw that" and went back to bed. I'll get one "whenever"...

I feel bad for you guys who got stuck with core systems tho......that was my nightmare scenario, not actually NOT getting one, but only being able to get a CORE system. Then you'd have to nickel and dime the whole premium system together. *yikes*

Well, in my current situation all I needed was a core and a harddrive... no real reason for me to get the premium. It would of been nice of course and I was of course trying to get one, but I was number 2 in core (8th in line) so I stuck with it.

I just need to find a harddrive now.

Hear, hear. Come on CAGers. Resist. :)

My preorder was locked and on it's way to me from eBgames last night, but I still needed to check out the midnight scene. I've found myself at "midnight madness" events every console release starting with the PS2, so I couldn't break tradition. I wasn't worried about finding a system, although it would've been nice to have my hands on a 360 last night rather than having to wait for my preorder to show up this afternoon. But what I found was insane:

Both Best Buys in my area that I visited already had lines. Even Toys R' Us! I went to one Wal Mart, and they were doing the chair thing, and all the chairs were filled. I went to two Meijers, and all sold out. Then I stopped by a couple of Targets, one which was still pretty obscure after only being open for a month. I thought for sure that Target might be a good place to snag a 360 this morning. But...lines lines lines already!

I was one of those who was sure the shortage was all hype. And I'm still not convinced that Microsoft isn't purposely holding back systems to inflate demand. But the bottom line is, there are a lot more folks than I had ever imagined out there who are scrambling to get thier hands on a 360.

There are already more than 4000 360's listed on ebay. Some bids for systems are up in the thousands...but others are still down in the hundreds.

Now I ask you: How many people out there are so desperate for a frickin new videogame system that they would pay a Grand or more to get it..rather than, oh I dunno, waiting a month or two to pay $300 or $400...!?!?!?!

People lining up to get an Xbox 360 is almost as much "Hype and Hive Mentality" as it is real desire. People line up because its "The thing to get". Every kid wants one for christmas even though he's got stacks of Xbox games on his shelf he hasnt played. Every player wants one so he can be the first with a 360 in the trunk or dashboard of his "looks like @ss" Mazda with the $2000 rims and the $20.00 car seat covers from Pep Boys....

I said the idiot Ebay buyers are clueless parents who are determined to fullfill Johnny's Christmas wishes at any cost.

Wow i'm surprised to see how many cags got jipped. I lined up at 845, and i was 6th woot! so excited, first launch system ever.

TICKLE-ME ELMO - s'all i gotta say.

I wonder if in 6 months we'll have thousands of pissed off people chucking their DREing systems out the window. This is the reason I will never again buy a concole at launch.

I was leaving work at Best Buy at 12:30am, and there was probably 70 people camped out. Was pretty cool. A few tents, and one guy parked his SUV on the sidewalk and he had 5 screens in it letting people watch movies and play games on them. :D

I gotta agree with you there......parents who aren't up on the game, thats for sure.
Paying $200 bucks for Tickle Me Elmo.

My cousin who has two kids, one of whom is 14 and desperately wants a 360. She said "So what store line will you be standing in tomorrow morning" (That being today).

I said "For what..? 360? Forget it, you'll never get one"..and she said "But...the stores said they will have them!?".

I looked at her, in that sad "oh you poor woman" kinda way...and said "they have been selling out of pre-orders at $800 bucks a pop, unless you plan on getting there 6+ hours early, you wont have much chance of getting a system tomorrow.

She looked at me like "oh my God!"...like it never even dawned on her.

oh well.....I can wait, I DO however feel sorry for parents who just dont get it.

Actually, the majority of the listings are for gmail accounts. The ones in the thousands are multi console and/or with a lot of games.

About a year after that stupid craze, I was walking through a goodwill and saw one for $2.99

No horror here in Puerto Rico, I walked into Sam's club in Mayaguez, they had about 20 premiums, I walked up grabbed 2 and paid for them. Walmart didnt have any, neither did KBtoys or Kmart. Gamestop was also tapped. I guess I got lucky.

My experience:

4:45 - Target #1: 10 people in line, 12 systems, only 6 are premiums. Not waiting around for a core. Guy who was first got there at 8:45 last night.

4:55 - Best Buy: 30-40 people in line for "low 20s" of total systems

4:58 - Target #2: 8 people in line, 10 systems, 5 premiums. Again, not waiting around for 3 hours for a core.

So I went home and went back to bed. For the original Xbox, I was first in line at 6 in the morning and didn't have to get out of the car until 7 when there were four of us there. This launch has gotten out of hand and is a load of BS to me. MS should have had way more premiums than cores available for launch for their target audience on launch day. I could have gotten a core, but no way am I piecing together a hard drive, wireless controller, and an HD cable separately for $180 more.

Apparently the Toys R Us in Times Square claims their shipment didn't arrive.

My friend said there was at least a hundred, cold and wet angry people yelling and screaming in the store.

Virgin Megastore was sold out too.

Sounds like someone at TRU is gonna lose their job.

pennsylvania was kind. i got one at walmart, sam's club and compusa.(all between midnight and 10 in the morning)

Lets not forget the furby craze which was just as bad as elmo. I remeber watching footage of people trampling each other just to get a little fury rat that talked.

wow i am speechless.............

i am happy to have gotten my ds recently lol

and you didnt get me one, shame on you!

Well, it didn't happen to me but this happened in my area.

I went to the Gamestop by my job for lunch to see how pre-orders were going and found out from one of the employees that I am cool with that they had security at most locations around here because someone decided to steal the first shipment from a Gamestop in another part of town. So everybody that pre-ordered at that store can't receive their system until they get another shipment in next week.

One good note is that I also found out that the first time the Gamestop near my job will have 360s for sale to the public will be in February so it lets me have time to build up some store credit so that I can maybe buy one then for my boyfriend for his birthday since he cancelled his pre-order that he had at Gamerush to help pay for some work that had to be done on my car.

forgot to mention-- half the people in line at BB were employees. yeah, got to hang out with BB employees for 10 hours straight :ziplip:

"DOOD, OMG San Andreas, liek I got to that mission where you have to go and steal cars.....SO DOPE!" it was entertaining.

this is from gamespot, its pretty rediculous

Xbox 360 has rocky start at retail
The next-generation console's debut is marked by long lines, stock shortages, parking-lot scalpers, and the occasional success.

After years of speculation, months of hype, and a mixed bag of launch titles, the Xbox 360 is now officially on sale across North America. The chaos began on the East Coast mid-Monday, when an armed robber absconded with two units from an EB Games outlet in Virginia.

Later, legal purchasers of the console got their first crack at the console at 12:01 a.m. EST when Best Buy, GameStop, and EB Games opened their doors. Simultaneously, at 9 p.m. PST, the 360 also went on sale at Microsoft's Zero Hour event in the Southern California desert. However, the rest of the West Coast had to wait for various "Midnight Madness" sales.

At one Best Buy in suburban Seattle, Microsoft Chairman and Chief Software Architect Bill Gates showed up to help hand out 360s and engage in several not-so-impromptu Project Gotham Racing 3 sessions. "In the living room itself, Xbox 360 is our centerpiece and a product that redefines what goes on there," Gates told the Associated Press.

But for the vast majority of would-be purchasers, the quest for a 360 had less to do with visionary proclamations and more with rampant inconvenience--as well as the occasional anarchy. Problems were particularly prevalent in the San Francisco Bay Area, where members of the tech-obsessed populace were already lining up outside stores on Monday afternoon. By noon Tuesday, GameSpot staffers who had not preordered Xbox 360s witnessed sellouts of the console at dozens of locations, including Fry's Electronics, Costco, Circuit City, and Game Crazy. At the Toys "R" Us in San Francisco's Richmond district, which quickly ran out of its two-dozen-odd allotment of 360s, a hysterical woman demanded the manager come over to her house on December 25 to explain to her young son why he wasn't getting a Christmas present.

Microsoft's official retail partner for the 360 launch was Best Buy, which has several locations spread around the Bay. By 1 p.m. PST Monday, 35 people had set up camp outside the Santa Rosa Best Buy just north of the town of Sonoma, which expected to receive 190 systems; four hours later there were more than 100 people awaiting the outlet's "Midnight Madness" sale. Farther south in San Carlos, a clerk at Best Buy was already discouraging callers from showing up at the witching hour, saying the crowd outside would soon exceed the store's total allotment of 80 360s. In Rosevile, a throng of 300 customers waited hours, only to find the outlet had a paltry 57 units in stock.

On Tuesday, GameSpot staffers witnessed even more chaotic scenes at the local Target in Colma, on the peninsula south of San Francisco. There, a lone security guard spent most of the night shooing an increasingly unruly crowd away from the parking lot. The situation nearly spun out of control around 7 a.m., when the guard left his post for five minutes, prompting a mass influx of would-be customers eager to receive vouchers good for a 360.

When he returned, the security guard's attempts to get the 100-plus-person crowd to form a line were rebuffed until the arrival of police and a California National Guardsman around 8 a.m. A trio of veteran GameSpotters witnessed the Guardsman quickly take control of the situation and move to the head of the line--where he promptly turned around and asked for a 360 voucher himself. The Guardsman then promptly fled the scene, voucher in hand, leaving police, Target employees, and a visibly agitated crowd to fend for themselves.

Even more underhanded events were afoot at the Target in the East Bay suburb of Pinole. There, voucher-scalping was rampant in the parking lot prior to the store's opening, with some vouchers selling for as much as $300--not including the price of the 360. More enterprising profiteers purchased units and immediately resold them in the parking lot for as much as $800--over $400 more than the higher-end Xbox console's $399 sticker price. By midday, the console was fetching well over $3,000 on eBay.

Many gamers who had planned to avoid the usual platform-day launch bedlam by preordering the Xbox 360 also encountered frustration. One GameSpot staffer was sent a reassuring e-mail saying he was number 35 of the 40 preorders guaranteed at his local EB Games, only to later learn the outlet's allotment had been reduced to just 20 units, leaving him high and dry. Luckily, his subsequent 10-hour vigil outside Best Buy paid off.

Another GameSpot editor who had preordered his unit from Wal-Mart was sent a flurry of confusing e-mails regarding his unbundled, hard drive-equipped Xbox 360 and copy of Project Gotham Racing 3. Within seven hours of receiving his confirmation, the editor got another e-mail saying that both the system and the game had been cancelled. This past Sunday, the editor received an e-mail saying his Xbox 360 had shipped, but that his game order remained canceled. He had not received the unit as of press time.

However, not all Xbox 360 launch-day stories were tales of disappointment. Several attempts to acquire units at Costco and CompUSA were successful, although the latter store had no extra controllers and very few games on hand. A spontaneous visit to the Virgin Megastore in downtown San Francisco saw one buyer grab the last of the 14 360s on hand, thanks to a no-show.
