Internet Service Provider Recommendations?

CAGiversary!
Hi.

I live in rural Georgia and I am having trouble finding any kind of high speed internet access. I live about 375 feet from the main road, so cable is not available. I also do not have dsl on the road that I live on. Any alternative suggestions?

Thanks!

Thanks.

Neither one is availabe to me anyway.
It's almost like I'm living in a bubble that will never get anything more than dial up.

About the only option you would have is satellite internet, and the few people I know who have it (rural WV) hate it--slow and goes out easy in rain/cloudy days, much easier than the TV picture apparently.

Maybe you can get wireless internet from your cell phone company, but I kind of doubt you get the EVDO etc. networks out in a rural area.

Thanks.

I read a bunch of user reviews on Wild Blue and Hughes Net satellite internet today. I really didn't see one positive review out of the pages I went through. Verizon does offer service, but there is a 5 GB cap on the usage for 70 bucks a month.

Yeah, and you actually have to have a strong EVDO signal or it won't work or will be super slow. And you're unlikely to have a strong EVDO signal, if any at all, in a rural area like that unless you happen to have a cell tower nearby.

DO NOT get Wildblue or Hughes Net if you plan on playing games online or downloading anything at all.

Your best bet is finding a local company, get my DSL over a radio signal and it works pretty well. It is $50 a month, with no limits what so ever. You might want to just look around and see if there is anything like that.
Thanks budge,

Can you give me some more details on the service you have?
Well the company I have only operates in a fairly small portion of central Texas and runs completely off of grant money from the Rural Telecommunications bill.

However, I would have to assume that there would be a company like that in your area. I, actually found my company based on a small picket sign on the side of the road.

Thanks. I'll keep looking out. I'm hoping I can push the cable company into using a new cable that will carry the signal for 500ft from the tap, but if that doesn't work out then I'm stuck with dial up.
