Internet won't load pages for 10-15 minutes after the computer has fully booted.

So, this started maybe a week or two ago? I forget exactly how long this has been going on but it was somewhere around there.

Whenever I start my computer it will boot up like normal, however Firefox will not load any pages at first. It will just hang at "waiting for cheapassgamer.com" or whatever. I have also tried using Chrome, IE7 and Opera and they all hang at this stage at first. However, suddenly after 10-15 minutes they will instantly load and the internet will work fine until the computer is rebooted.

However, my laptop loads up pages just fine, and people can play XBL games online no problem, so it obviously isn't the internet acting funny.

Some programs will load on the PC though, like AIM and MSN. However the Zune Marketplace and Xfire can't seem to login during this period.

I tried clearing all my cookies and cache and so on, of course that didn't do anything.

I sweeped my system with multiple anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and they came up all clear. I also tried disabling all the background programs and killed any processes that I didn't know what they were. Still didn't fix it.

I really don't know what could be causing this problem, but it is extremely annoying and is getting me really frusterated. Does anyone at all have an idea on how to fix it?

All suggestions are welcome...

You didn't tell us how the computer is connected to the router. Wired or wireless? XP or Vista? What you can do first if you have a wired connection, is to disable and re-enable the local area network icon in your Control Panel > Network Connections right after you do a reboot to see if it'll gather information correctly from the router. If your computer is set to DHCP, you can try and switch to having a manual IP, network mask, and gateway IP (the router's LAN IP). Another thing you can do is to uninstall and reinstall the network adapter drivers.

I have a wired connection to the router and I am running windows Vista.

It is definately getting information correctly from the router, I mean AIM will log in just fine and I can carry out a conversation on it during the period of time when no web pages will load.

I will look into those other options tomorrow. In the mean time if anyone else has suggestions, please post them here.

It could also be your computer isn't getting the proper DNS information from the router. DNS helps your computer translate from www.yahoo.com to an IP address corresponding to the yahoo server. If DNS is missing or incorrect, www.yahoo.com will not be recognized and is not translated to an IP, thus unable to load the site. Last time when AT&T had a DNS issue on their end, I was not able to load many websites, but AIM still worked. I'm no networking guru so hopefully others can shed some lights too.

That's a pretty strange issue, I've never heard of a problem like that. SOSTrooper could be right about the DNS issues, but I just don't know. Any easy way to check if it's DNS is to type in an IP address during the first 15 minutes and see if it works, CAG is 209.59.169.33

I am pretty sure it isn't a ISP end DNS issue, because if it was, my laptop, dad's laptop and XBL should all be having similar problems shouldn't they?

Also, I just realized that I currently had a static IP address and DNS address, so I switched back to dynamic and I will see if that helps any.

EDIT: I just restarted my computer with it set to a dynamic IP address and I also tried directly going to CAG's IP address. No Dice. Still took about 10 minutes for pages to start to load.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the network adapter. Go to device manager and uninstall the drivers for it, restart computer, and let it re-detect the device.

I've had this problem before multiple times on my old XP machine. The thing is, it only happens when I reformat, and after it "works" the first time (Trillian works, internet doesn't, wait 10 mins, it magically works) it doesn't do it again.

So I can't really tell you how to fix it since it seems to do it on its own for me.

Now, you might be thinking to yourself, "Good story ck64, but how does this help me?" To that I say, just letting you know that you aren't the only one that has had this problem!

I downloaded the latest drivers for my network adapter and installed them, now it seems to work just fine. Not sure exactly what screwed up my drivers in the first place, but I am better off using the Vista version of the drivers anyway .

Thanks for the help man.

Yeah, I haven't reformatted this computer in over a year so I am not sure what is up. Fortunately it seems to work now.
