Following recent news that it would be bringing Earthworm Jim to Virtual Console, Interplay has announced it is partnering with franchise creator Doug TenNapel to revive the brand with a new game, cartoon and film.

No details of the new game, currently titled Earthworm Jim 4 were given, but Interplay says TenNapel -- who was also behind critical hits like The Neverhood -- will serve as a creative consultant for the game.

The company also says TenNapel will be developing a new animated series, following an earlier series that ran on The Kids WB! for two seasons, as well as a feature film.

As earlier reported, CEO Herve Caen has said Interplay is undergoing a campaign to utilize its "unique intellectual property, and low debt and operational costs" through initiatives like the Virtual Console releases to "pursue financing for our various projects," which, along with this new Earthworm Jim title, include its planned Fallout-based MMO.

VERY EXCITE!!!!!

Earthworm Jim 2 came out in what... 1995? And didn't Interplay close it's doors or something?

I dunno... this is completely out of nowhere.

This is good news. Earthworm Jim is a classic. Here's hoping that Earthworm Jim 4 will be a 2D platformer like 1 & 2 .

I'll believe it when I see it. Regardless of the claim, I have a hard time imagining a new Earthworm Jim game actually making it to market. I'm sure development will begin on the title, but the game will be scrapped a year later to make room for large budget "safe" games that'll make bank.

I'd love for the game to come out, though.

A game, a series, and a film? Ambitious much? I'd love for it to work out, but it sounds all a little too grand to actually happen.

I dunno... this is completely out of nowhere.[/QUOTE]I thought the same thing as soon as I read this... I had kinda assumed Interplay had gone under. Actually it'll kinda make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to see that they're still putting stuff out, so yay!

I remember the old cartoon being funny. It caught me off guard back in the day with how hip it was (Ed Wood references ftw!). Maybe they'll re-release that too?

It's a shame they killed off the PSP remake of the original game, though... EJ2 kinda sucked, but the original was definitely a solid game.

Ha, never EVER going to happen.

I mean, the fact that they're still claiming that they hope to get anywhere with the Fallout MMO should make it obvious how empty their claims are.

They're a corpse of a company, so I don't count on seeing any of their plans come to fruition.

Yeah, I pretty much have zero faith in seeing this see the light of day. It'll just become another piece of vaporware.
