oh there are still so many gems out there that need to be added to these lists, mostly the Shinmegumi games, Persona 3 right now is amazing(roommate is playing it)

Is it me? But I feel that RPGS are not what they used to be, I remember going to Software Etc.(which is no more) and picking up a good RPG for 10$ but nowadays collecters(or just greedy people) aren't allowing me this satisfaction of playing some of the greatest gems out there, been trying to get my hands on Valkryie Profile for a long time, but I refuse to pay 90$ for a videogame, geez, same with Suikoden II.

I realize they are rare, but if you love the game so much and are willing to part with it, then give someone the enjoyment of the game without tearing a whole in their pocket.

I don't know, what do you guys think of the rare games that get crazy high prices?

I think you mean Shin Megami Tensei (otherwise referred to as SMT).

As far as rare games are concerned, I've found it easier to simply purchase the game at the exorbitant price (try to find the cheapest you can) and then resell once I've finished. Unless you're luck is such that a reprint comes along before you finish and sell, you can at least break even on your purchase.

Welcome to the board. You've got a good starting list, but there's a lot more ground to cover. I'd recommend starting on the Shadow Hearts trilogy.

Is this the game where you synthesize different shades of lipstick rather than the tired old path of making weapons?

Kiddin' with ya. Welcome and all that.

Haha thank you

Ya, I wanted to get into the Shadow heart series, It got under my radar when it came out, I was only 14, lawn mowing money can only go so far! But there are 3 in the series now correct?

Are they all related?

There are references throughout. Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant have this prequel/sequel thing going on, but it's not necessary to play through the first to enjoy the second. They do a very good job explaining the story to that point.

The third is the debated one. I enjoyed it - it has some little homages throughout the series, but it's a completely different story.

In any case, the first game has a dark sense of humor. The second and third are much more silly.

Man, Shadow Hearts is lame... the only good one is the second one and even then...

Honestly, I'd just grab Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne from Play-Asia. It's got the same sort of charm that older RPGs did.

And it really does seem as though RPGs are far less interesting than they were a generation ago... so many cliched plots and characters and generally boring settings.

I blame Gust entirely.

Although I got rid of a bunch recently (since I'm just sick of having a huge backlog), I did have around 350-400 games for all my PS platforms together at one point (with over 100 of them being RPGs). Just take a look at my game collection to see what I have.

I do have Suikoden II on PS1. ;)

I only stuck with the good ones :p plus I've finally beaten all of them as well.

If I had a 100 RPGS to play, 1) I wouldn't have a fiance 2) I wouldn't have friends 3)I might be dead

Thanks, I know who to go to if I want to check out any of those I saw that I might want to play sometime

haha

haha
Let's just say two of those are true with me. Well, I'll admit I've gotten rid of some good RPGs here and there, but my main issues is time. Although I've beaten a lot, there are still many I have not complete, and I rarely touch my PS2 anymore (due to getting sucked into HD now), so I've been selling stuff off. Regardless, I'll probably never let my copy of Suikoden II go, but may consider when there's a PSN download of it coming (according to Markman here, it's coming, since Suikoden I is getting one).

Don't put all the blame on nonsensical shit-ass RPG hoarders for the price of Suikoden II. You can also blame Konami for not bringing Suikoden I & II (one disc for PSP) stateside.

Though TMK has mentioned that the ESRB website has listed Suikoden as being rated for distribution on the PS3's network, so if that sells well, perhaps we'll see #2 as well.

Here's hoping.
Whats a PSN download? Sony creating Roms for PS3?
It's a PS1 game, released as a download to be played on PS3/PSP (there are only a few in the U.S., while Japan gets several). The first Wild Arms got one (it's nice because I can re-use my PS1 save on both PS3/PSP). The ESRB.org usually leaks what's coming.

Let's just say I played or very familiar with just about every PS2 RPG that came out in mid 2007 and before. I don't really pay attention anymore though (last ones I bought were Persona 3 and Mana Khemia).

Go play Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy or Ultima and you will be thanking the gaming gods that RPGs are not what they used to be.

Nah, I'm thinking Ultima and Ultima II mainly. Ultima III and IV were really good although I haven't played either in about 20 years... damn I'm old.
MarkMan is nothing.
FIXED. ;)

Sorry I'm not cool, I don't have Suikoden II.... ;(

I just have this:

And I just checked, I have about 400 games combined for PS1 and PS2. ;)

Oh and TMK, wondering if you ever saw these? There were only a small handful made for Square Enix employees...

I wonder how much those would go for on eBay or something?

I just played through DQ1 this week and it wasn't bad at all. Alot shorter then I remember it being.
