CAGiversary!

Since the old thread was getting too large, I made this new thread to continue.

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Important Notes:

 1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
 2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
 3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
 4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
 5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
 6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
 7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
 8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
 9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.

HOLY CRAP

"Discount campaign to celebrate the release of 'Sword & Poker 2'(Coming soon!!)."

YES!
Sword & Poker 2? Dood, you just made my day.

If anyone doesn't have Sword & Poker yet and questions how good it is, just look at the tags on this thread. Get it while it's discounted and join in on the fever for Sword & Poker 2.

Oh, just found some details on the new game!

http://iphone.gaia-games.jp/swordandpoker2/app_en.html

Description "Sword & Poker 2” is a new type of game that is based on the famous game, poker, with some elements of RPG added.
The easy game control and tutorial will allow you to learn the game system easily, even if you are a beginner!

For those who played the previous game, new tricky dungeons have been added so you can enjoy a fresh challenge.
Collect new magic and weapons, use your knowledge, creativity and a bit of luck to win the battles against the monsters!

(MINOR SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T FINISHED THE FIRST GAME)

《 Story 》
This is a story of a magical world based on cards.

After successfully recapturing the stone of creation from evil hands, the brave warrior returned to his hometown and lived peacefully away from the hustle.
While his memories from the numerous battles were fading out, the warrior has sensed a tremendously dark shadow covering the entire continent.

Realizing his destiny, the warrior finds his old armor full of scars, holds his weapon tight and silently closes his eyes.
....another story of a brave warrior is about to begin.
Looks like a 2 player mode on 1 phone, that would be perfect for the iPad...here's hoping they make that version too
The 1st one has the same feature
Lol really? Someone just posted the link as well as a lot of the text and even the pics just a few posts above you haha. :D

Anyways, cant wait...wish there was an actual date.
Lol really? His post originally didn't have that info and I posted it at the same time he edited his. It happens.

Let's see what we can deduce from those screens:

-Multiple dungeons this time around.
-Background art to match the dungeons area
-Looks like you're collecting keys this time. in the screen showing the different dungeons you can see a diamond key and a club key. I assume you're collecting suite keys.
-Multiple skins for the cards? New card art seen in the versus mode screen, but old card art seen in a dungeon battle screen.

I hope S&P2 has a two player vs across phones with your own character not some default person. Random lvls would be nice too. Its got to be made for the iPad this time.
yeah, Chaos Rings is 3rd place in the world for downloaded apps right now. Thankfully, people are able to recognize value over rote cheapness \\:D/

http://applyzer.com/?mmenu=top50WW
Is it, though? One of the reviews I read on itunes, though they did give it for stars for being "the best RPG on the iPhone" noted that the game loses its luster once you find out that it essentially involves repeating the same central area over and over, just at higher difficultly levels, and described the story as being like something out of a bakugan episode. So was that person off? That review, I must say, soured me on the idea of paying $12 for it, or whatever the price.

there are a handful of dungeons that you do repeat with different parties. There's a secret dungeon with tough boss fights. You go back and forth between a hub world. So you beat the game, then you go through it again with a party with different abilities. It's about 8 hours per party, possibly less on subsequent playthroughs once you learn the puzzles. This is where I backpedal and say "hey, it's an iPhone game"

The story may end up being kind of dumb, though I have to say it starts off being kind of intriguing and mysterious. This being a JRPG, though, I imagine the full reveal of the story will be something profoundly retarded.

If you're asking about value though, yeah it gives you your money's worth. graphics, lots of fully orchestrated music tracks (that are awesome), and a pretty awesome and challenging battle system.

"Value?" are you kidding me?
On a platform where quality games can easily be had for $4.99 and under?

Heavygunner and rubehouse are worthwhile in my opinion. Tower of blocks is a pass. I deleted it after 3 minutes.

I'm finally going to bite on sword & poker. I'm only doing it because it's what the cool kids are doing these days.

Just tried Chaos Rings and love the control. I think it is the first game that got the touch screen control right. Love being able to move the control stick to the center of the screen instead of a tiny corner. I like the free games or .99 to burn 5 minutes, but Chaos Ring is great when you need something for longer period of time

But if we want games that have larger budgets assigned to them then we have to expect higher prices to compensate. And it's good to see that there is a market for these higher priced games on the app store.

There are 2 awards on Tilt To Live that are pissing me off. I've been trying to get them before the new update comes out but i dont think I'll be able to. The first is the "With all eight wapons unlocked, use only the original three. Break 200,000 points" award. This is REALLY kicking my ass. Also the "Eliminate 100+ dots with one lightning strike" award doesnt seem that hard but is frustrating as hell. Anyone else having trouble with any of the awards in tilt to live?

========================================72 HOUR 0.99 SALE NOW ON! (NORMALLY 2.99)========================================

Earth is Gone is pretty sweet. I tried the free version first. Liked it enough to drop a buck on the full thing. Is it my imagination or have there been a lot of really decent titles on sale lately? Thank goodness I snagged that Costco 4-pack of iTunes cards back when they were on sale. . .
These last few posts have been overwhelming for me... So many great ones to get. Slow down guys!
I'm done for the night... ;)

Enjoy!
Hoggy is also on sale for 99c.

On that note, I also recommend another game from that developer, Solomon's Keep. Price will increase soon with 2.0 update.

Just saw a 4/4 review from SlideToPlay and saw that it's how I want these games to be. I want to be able to finish them so the length has me intrigued. Some of these games go on for too long.

i don't see how Gun Builder is #1 on the app store right now. That shit was boring after about 30 seconds...you only have 4 or 5 base guns to choose from. Craptastic.

Goooood Friday morning, CAGers! Here's a freebie app site roundup to start your day:

Free App a Day is showcasing iStunt Reloaded (http://www.freeappaday.com/app.php?day=23&month=04) along with Speed Anatomy (http://www.freeappaday.com/app.php?day=53&month=04). Break your stunt guy in one game and identify the organs in another!
OpenFeint has the somewhat confusing offering of showing TapTap Ninja (http://freegameoftheday.com/) yet describing and linking to TapTest (http://itunes.apple.com/app/taptest/id313605218?mt=8).
Great App a Day is featuring Crazy Snowboard again (http://www.greatappaday.com/details/crazy-snowboard/).
Free App Calendar has the previously-mentioned Bat Escapade (http://www.freeappcalendar.com/details.php?id=119).

Your bonus price drop freebies include Alchemize (http://itunes.apple.com/app/alchemize/id324494977?mt=8), Seek 'n Spell (http://itunes.apple.com/app/id307726640?mt=8), and Yield (http://itunes.apple.com/app/yield/id359848700?mt=8). The original prices were $2 - $3 each, so grab 'em for FREE while you can.

Have a great Freeday, er, Friday!

I'm not arguing that the price should be lower, but anyone who says that $12 is a value on the app store is on something.
Bird Strike is AWESOME
Bird Strike was awesome until the update--now Gerald's got a ghetto mouth and they reworded all the play modes.

Fortunately Pik Pok has realized their horrendous mistakes on all levels and are reverting it back to what it was--fun, cute and functional.

$12 is a value on the app store. It's not how much it is, it's what it's worth.

MINISQUADRON SPECIAL EDITION is out now!!!! FREE

901565.png

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/minisquadron-special-edition/id365901565?mt=8
This games is not free. Full game is actually $2.97 due to three in-game purchases of 99 cents each to unlock all the levels.

I don't blame the author as Apple hasn't made it possible to list for a price, but with a free demo, in one listing. I.e. like on XBLA. I hope that will be part of itunes in the near future.

it might not be free for the full game, but minisquadron is top notch and this is a great way to try it out for nothing. The full game is well worth 3 bucks, and certainly there is no risk in trying the first 2 levels at no cost.

The game is probably worth it (I loved the first one, but haven't tried the new one yet), the big problem I have is that the description they provide for the game implies that the free download gets you 8 levels, yet really you only get 2 and have to pay extra for the others.

Now, the app store sucks in not having an xbox-like model of prices listed, but free to download and demo, then unlock for the price that was listed right up front, but still, it's annoying that the developers of this game don't bother to mention that you don't get those 8 levels you mention for the price listed, rather you only get 2.

Holy crap what the hell.

Powder is free but only to level 15. If you want the full game, you have to drop $10. Ridiculous.

Granted, it's a roguelike, so getting to level 15 is not guaranteed to begin with, but there are better free roguelikes. Hell, I can't think of a roguelike I'd pay $10 for anyway.
