CAGiversary!

Since the old thread was getting too large, I made this new thread to continue.

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Important Notes:

 1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
 2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
 3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
 4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
 5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
 6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
 7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
 8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
 9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
This is going to sound foolish but what did you guys think of Bejeweled 2 on the iphone? lol worth it?
Jewel Quest is better ... but I suppose it's kind of a different game in many ways. Bejeweled is a solid game for a phone game, but it's kind of dated when you compare it to some of the newer games coming out on the App store. At $2.99 it's on the pricier side for an older game that isn't exclusive to the platform ... I'd personally go with something like Peggle or even hold out until Plants & Zombies launched later this month ... at least those games would push the system a bit more than your standard Bejeweled 2 game ... tho it is fun for what it is.

I enjoy Bejeweled. If you have Bejeweled 2 on PC or XBLA or anything else, its the same game. One notable addition (which I think is awesome) is the Bejeweled Blitz mode. Its essentially the same one-minute game they have on Facebook and it ties into the same FB friends leaderboard, which is kinda cool.

Peggle is fantastic though.

I have a butt-ton of free/cheap games loaded up on my iPhone, but so far I've really only come back to the quick pick-up-and-play games. Bejeweled, Peggle, Implode!, and Angry Birds are what I've been playing the most. It sounds really sad, but I actually have an iPhone backlog.

My favorite games in no particular order:
MGS Touch
Auditorium
MiniSquadron
Peggle
The Deep Pinball
Soosiz

I'd recommend all of those. I also play regularly:
Pac-Man CE
N.O.V.A.
Angry Birds
Skies of Glory
ATV Offroad
Field Runners
Defense Chronicles

I got just about every one of these games on sale, but the first set of games I'd recommend for almost any price you would see them for on the iTunes store.
As far as I'm concerned, this is the only iPhone discussion thread that matters.

I bought Doom just because it seemed like the only FPS on the iPhone that might possible work. The demo of Modern Combat showed me that there was no point trying to make a triple A FPS on the iPhone.

That was a mistake as now I remember that Doom is only slightly fun.
Nova and COD:Zombies both have fantastic controls for an FPS on the platform. I personally prefer COD but that may be because the game is slower paced.

I took the plunge on NOVA at $7 and don't regret it. Is it the best FPS you'll ever play? No. Is it original? No. But the game is still a lot of fun and when you step back and realize you're playing on your phone it is pretty damn impressive.

Honestly, before they added the Blitz feature (1 minute mode that also connects you to your fb account), I didn't think it was worth it. When they added that feature, it definitely made it worth it for me. The blitz was a great addition. With the blitz mode being one minute game, it worked perfectly on the iphone. I always thoughtthe regular and the endless mode just got really boring really fast.:) It is a very solid game though. Controls work flawlessly

I picked up Jewel Quest 2in1 when it was on sale and I rarely play Bejeweled anymore. You can try the lite version of Jewel Quest Deluxe to see if you like it. I originally thought it was too easy (compared to Montezuma, which I also still play) but the farther you progress, the harder it gets. All three titles are good match-three variations on a theme. They're all just a little different from one another, too. Try some of the lite versions available and see what you think.

Given all the free and cheap app sales recently, I'm not sure how you couldn't have an iPhone game backlog!

Agreed. I haven't even tried any other mode on Bejeweled 2 because Blitz is so addictive. That mode alone is worth the price for me.

It's been like that for awhile. I tried searching for it last week and it didnt show up either when it wasnt free.

Easiest way to find something if it's not showing up is to go to the publisher/developer page and sort through it. It's odd that only the lite version shows up, but I usually just click on the Gameloft page anyway to see what's new and it should always show up there.

Just ran the tab on my iPod touch app and game purchases. To date, I've spent $70 (give or take a few cents). That's insane. First of all, I didn't think it was quite that much as I was imagining it was more like $50-60, but still, for $70, that's a LOT of amazing gaming!

Long live the App Store!

Oh, I am too. The vast majority of games I've purchased were between free and $3. Twice, I believe, I've spent $5 on a game, and once I spent $10 on Need for Speed Shift which almost immediately dropped to $3!

This thread is both the reason why I've spent so little on all these apps, but also why I've spent so much on apps as a whole!

The most expensive app i have bought is the sling box app, 29.99. Otherwise i won't (or haven't payed more than .99. opps, i bought scrabble the other day for 2.99 b/c of this thread!!

It dropped to $3?

On another note, what kind of cases do you guys use or recommend for an iPod Touch? I've been looking at an Incase Slider, Griffin Wave/NuForm, Switcheasy Rebel Touch, and iFrogz Luxe. I had an Griffin iClear, worked great until I dropped it. The tab broke but my iPod is fine. I don't like Silicone skins, it keeps trapping moisture and attracts lint like made. That or the Belkin ones I got were just some really bad silicone material. I'm currently leaning towards a Switcheasy Rebel Touch. Its like $25+ $3 shipping, cheaper than what an Incase Slider is going for retail wise.

It is going for $30 to $35 within retails.

I think permanent cases are overrated. For one thing grunge gets inside the case and then on your iPod/iPhone and can even scratch it up. For my iphone I have a case that clips to my belt that I use to carry it around, but the iPhone itself is case/shell-less, and I've had good luck with that. The iPhone and iPod touch are a lot sturdier then most seem to think. Heck, last weekend I dropped my iPhone on the ice at an ice rink and ... no damage whatsoever. YMMV, though. :)
It dropped to $3?
My mistake, NFS Shift dropped $3 from $9.99 to $6.99 almost immediately after I bought it.

As far as cases go, I can only not recommend the iSkin vibes series. I have one on my 3G touch and it blows monkey chunks. The holes don't line up well at all, so I have to pull the bottom of the touch out of the case to do things like dock it and use dock connector accessories. I can say that my sister has some pink Belkin case, which aside from not coming with any screen protector, seems to do a good job protecting her iPod and the holes line up well.

Slingplayer (for Slingbox owners)

http://www.slingplayer.com

Slingbox is awesome, in case anyone is wondering. No subscription fees, watch for free on a PC/Mac, and for $30 on a mobile device. (I watch on my blackberry, which unlike the iphone, works on the network as well as wifi.)

And for cases, I highly recommend the cases available from this ebay seller:

http://shop.ebay.com/dcmugen88/m.ht...11.m270.l1313&_odkw=resin+ipod+case&_osacat=0

Don't let the low price and free shipping fool you. :) The cases are made from a unique material (apparently resin) which is soft and flexible like silicon, but always bounces back to its original shape, and never stretches out. I use these cases for my Blackberry and my ipod touch, and I gave away two for Christmas as well. (Only drawback: the free shipping is quite slow.)

I'm on my second Griffin Elan Form case, and I'm pretty happy with it:

http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/elanform3g

I find the leather a lot more comfortable to hold than the plastic of the phone itself or the other cases I've seen. The only downside (reason that I'm on my second one) is that eventually (a little over a year, in my case) the glue on the leather starts to wear out and it peels off. Fortunately, Target was clearancing them right at the time I happened to need a replacement.

I agree, this case is really nice. Unfortunately, I also am starting to have the same problem with the glue wearing off though.

Mine is naked too...I carry it in my pocket in one of the Moshi iPouches (http://www.moshimonde.com/). My phone is in perfect shape.

Although, the flexi cases above look interesting...I have one friend who has his iPhone in a case that could survive an IED, and I swear he drops it once a friggin' day.

I have an Otterbox. They are bit on the expensive side (mine cost $50), but they are durable. I accidentally dropped my phone on a stairway, and it didn't have a scratch on it. Incredible!!!

Head over to http://www.bestappever.com to vote for you favorite apps in tons of categories. I saw Minigore had solicited some votes, so I thought I'd check it out. Minigore did get a few votes of mine, but not all of them. I'm really pulling for Alive 4-ever to win Best Use of Bluetooth and Best Arcade Game!

Going through the nominations, a lot of cool games were brought to my attention. Anyone played geoSpark ($0.99 by Critical Thought Games) and TowerMadness ($2.99 by Limbic Software)?

If you're in a voting mood, if you can throw Card Ace (Casino Games) and Word Ace (Word Games) your votes, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks!
Good find, very similar to AppBox Pro which I have. Worth a buck, if not to clean out extra programs and put them in one place. C'mon Apple, where are FOLDERS? :bomb:
I have appbox pro as well. I like the interface of AppVault Pro. It also comes with a guitar tool kit that includes a metronome, stringer tuners and some chords! For $0.99, I think this might have a better value than Appbox pro!:applause:
