This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

Big list o' sale items from Touch Arcade:

Namco

Sky Burger, Free (down from $1.99) NimbleBit's Sky Burger is a fun exercise in burger stacking that's seen a great deal of success since it recently went free; presently it's sitting at #6 free title in the App Store. Now's the time to grab it.
Glu Mobile

Robot Unicorn Attack, $0.99 (down from $2.99) If there's any game in the App Store that is double rainbow all the way, it is without question Adult Swim's Robot Unicorn Attack. It's got unicorns!!

Electronic Arts

Monster Dash is freaking awesome! I can't stop playing it, haha. Definitely worth $1.

Also, I got Veggie Samurai for free, but would Fruit Ninja still be worth purchasing?

I'm also really enjoying Monster Dash. It's exactly the kind of run right into infinite game that I've always wanted to play.

Is the adult swim double rainbow Unicorn game any good?

Gear up for the new season of pigskin with NFL Rush Zone, currently available for FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/nfl-rush-zone/id331325348?mt=8).

"Competition is king in the NFL Rush Zone!
See how many touchdowns you can score in a quick pass action game of Lateral Collateral and escape detention to make it to the big game in Detentionator Dash!

First you’ve got to make it to the game:

1) DETENTIONATOR DASH
You’re stuck in detention with the DETENTIONATOR and today is the big football game. Your goal is to sneak out and make it to the game. Don’t get caught! If the DETENTIONATOR’s vision ray spots you...you’re toast!

Once you get there, you’ve got to win:

2) LATERAL COLLATERAL
It’s a broken play with no time left! This is your last chance to win the game! Lateral the ball back and forth to your teammates as many times as you can. Look out for diving tacklers and don’t let them intercept the ball. How many touchdowns can you score???

Both games have their own global high-scores ... be great at both!"

I know that everyone loves Words With Friends (I do as well), but I was wondering if anyone has tried out Chess With Friends... and if so, does it work well? I've heard it's particularly buggy. Also...

Ponk is down from $1.99 to $0.99 ...I've never played/heard of it, but it looks like it could be alright.

“The gameplay consists of making matches of 3 by sorting the blobs of color. You have the ability to drag the colors all around the screen, not just in a single column like most match 3 games which is a nice feature. Due to this, Ponk is also a Sorter type game.”
“Unlike most match three games that use some sort of virtual buttons or even some swipe controls, in Ponk you grab the pieces right out of the air and place them in the wall yourself.

While grouping any three same colored pieces so they form a connected shape (a straight line or elbow) will clear them for you, if you want to make the big points you’ll need to make groupings bigger than 3, make consecutive matches in a row, or best of all, score matches in cascades (after clearing a group of pieces the remaining pieces fall right into another grouping of 3+ same colored pieces)!"

Has anybody played Burgertime Deluxe?

Burgertime is one of my favorite old arcade games, so I'm really tempted to buy this, but it looks like a remake. How does this verson play, and does it have the original?

Crazy! I was looking at it just yesterday, but my gut told me to wait and see :p
Can someone who picks up Super Mega Worm drop a mini review for me.
I've played it for a while and I've been enjoying it... I definitely think it's a $1 game and not exactly worth $3. The controls are a bit weird; you have two options: an on-screen slider or tilt controls. I would definitely recommend sticking with the default slider controls as I found the tilt controls to be very sensitive. I love the art style and you gotta love a game that rewards you for eating women pushing baby carriages. To make a brief assessment, the game is fun, but the controls take some getting used to.

It's ugly as sin. The art style makes it hard to see the burgers. It's completely lacking in anything approaching charm. It seems to lack the nail-biting difficulty of the original. It doesn't even seem to offer anything retro for old timey BurgerTime fans...

But it DOES scratch the itch for BurgerTime on the go. The controls aren't as bad as the reviews seem to indicate. It works at that at least.

Stair Dismount is pretty boring. I bought it for a buck a couple months ago, and wasn't too impressed with it. Gets boring quick, no real challenge. But I guess for free it might be worth checking out.

Went ahead and picked up Super mega worm and words w friends. If any one is interested in playing, my open feint and plus user names are in my sig.

On another note, all the usuals and any lurkers should all post o.f and + names. I have hardly any friends that game on iphone or touch, and it would be nice to have some for multiplayer and achievement/ stat tracking.

Agreed. Even after playing for a while, I still can't master the controls precisely (although to be fair I'm playing on an iPad so the controls weren't optimized for the larger screen). Really fun game though, well worth the $1 sale price.

The FAAD GOLD App by FreeAppADay.com introduces Fuzzle as Today's Featured Free App!

"Perfect in every minor detail, Fuzzle is a deserved iPhone game classic." - iphoneapplicationlist.com - 5/5 star rating

"Fuzzle is one amazingly beautiful and addictive game ... I predict this game to be one of the top downloads on iTunes" - appruv.com - 5/5 star rating

Fuzzle is the top-selling, dangerously addictive puzzle game. Both simple to learn, yet challenging to master!

Move the balls around the board to create lines of five balls of the same color, thus removing the balls. After every other move you make, more balls are added. The goal is to keep the board from filling up as long as possible."

Carcassonne is great, as Thrak said. Also worth the price of admission (not a sale) is Reiner Knizia's Samurai. If you like Carcassonnne you should give it a try, not that they are similar other then both being tile-based board games, or something like it.

Sigma is a good game, I'd definitely recommend it at free.

My OF and + names are both CONMAN999, if anyone wants to add me.

Thanks to everyone adding OF, and Plus names. I now have several of you on here. Keep em' coming everyone, it'd be nice if we could all have each other on here to play games with, cause as it stands now, I know literally no one I play online with.

In other news app shopper just came out with their own app! great news, as browsing the mobile site is less than ideal.

I'm torn about this... I'm loving the art style (though not actually 8-bit) and what the game fundamentally seems to be, but at the same time... it's Linkin Park everywhere.

Linkin Park 8-Bit Rebellion! has dropped from $4.99 to $0.99!

"Fight the forces of evil to unlock a BRAND NEW, EXCLUSIVE song by Linkin Park!

Many years ago, the world existed in 8-bit harmony…until PixxelKorp arrived. Now technological advancement dominates, and evil reigns supreme. A mass-brainwashing campaign has taken over and is turning the world into a high-res nightmare. A rebellion is rising, and Linkin Park is calling on YOU to lead the fight against PixxelKorp.

From the imagination of Linkin Park comes 8-Bit Rebellion, the only game app that turns Linkin Park's world into your gaming reality.

Take on action-packed missions as you fight your way through 6 Linkin Park-themed districts. Customize your own apartment and connect with friends in a massively multiplayer experience. Most importantly, recover all of the lost Linkin Park tracks to score exclusive access to an unreleased song!

iPad edition is also available!

Game Features:

- Enjoy 8 Linkin Park tracks in their original and 8-bit forms, including “New Divide”, “In The End,” and “Crawling”

- Explore uniquely-themed districts designed for each band member, with characters and items designed by the band themselves

- Create and customize your own avatar in 8-bit or high-res designs

- Decorate your own, personal space

- Equip yourself with an array of devastating weapons and engage in intense boss battles that will put your skills to the challenge!

- Choose the control scheme that best suits your gaming style

- Receive mission objectives straight from the band members

- Connect with Facebook to find friends, and post updates to your wall and Twitter accounts

- Compare your rebellion points with other players on the global leaderboard!"
So this appshopper app basically makes this thread useless, right?

What will we do now?

Ok fire_thief, she's all yours.
I would say only as useless as the actual site made this thread. Occasionally a deal or something slips through the cracks on app shopper, and its nice to get feedback on the quality of the apps that are posted. This is also a good filter for the deluge of crapware that shows up on app shopper daily as well.

*edit* I would also like to second sigma as a superb match 3 puzzler.

I'd basically say exactly what jamesesdad said on the topic of the appshopper app... it makes this thread as useless as the actual appshopper site. It's not hard to just go to that site and see what's dropped instead of coming here, but you don't really get any feedback or community aspect, which may not be important to some.

Also, with all the OF and Plus+ names going out... I have no friends as well so...

OF: CannoliCrasher
Plus+: Kush

...Haven't checked Plus+ profile crap in a long time, but apparently I have quite a few followers, but zero friends. I attribute the Plus+ popularity to the name... it's so nice when I can actually get regular ol' "Kush" as my username. Fun Fact: it's a nickname based off the pronunciation of my last name and I didn't even know it was a reference to marijuana until a few years ago... then it all started to make sense... people thinking I was a pothead and all that jazz.
Just realized wwf doesn't use OF or plus. My wwf name is plslvmln (those are Ls not Is )
My OF and WWF name is Dimms. Ping me for a game sometime.

Great App a Day is featuring the puzzler Tactus Cube for FREE today (http://www.greatappaday.com/details/tactus-cube/).
"No, its not Rubik’s Cube knock off!
Tactus Cube is a totally unique and beautifully designed, customisable puzzle-app for iPhone, iPod Touch or any Iphone OS 3.0 or greater device. Its the perfect boredom buster for those who enjoy a good head-scratch! The game boasts intuitive controls, gorgeous graphics, simple pick-up-and-play design. As well as wonderful background music and original sound effects."

Free App Calendar is showcasing the top-down shooter EZ Fighter (http://www.freeappcalendar.com/details.php?id=357).
"Drive your own fighter and destroy the enemies! Though the style of the game is similar to the former version, this version contains lots of new elements. The endless mode has also been changed into some different stages. Discover these during your battling journey."

I'm "crunc" everywhere: OF, Plus+, WWF and R.K.Samurai. For Carcassonne send request to: cagDOTcrunchewyATgmailDOTcom

My OF (and just about everything else) username is the same as here, NickNorman.

Also, I highly recommend Shibuya. Great puzzle game that you can pick up and play.
Slightly off topic as far as games goes, but is anyone getting the newest iPod touches that released this week?
Well it hasn't officially released yet (all signs point to tomorrow for in-store existence), but I ordered one through Amazon (got it at the slightly lower price) and I'm not sure when I'll get it... I'm patient enough to wait and save on tax/price. I'm looking forward to playing around with it. I feel kind of bad for the Flip.

Thanks for this! I ve been waiting for this to go down to 99c. Didnt expect it to go from 5 to 1 so soon.

FYI, I've got enough people to play with that I don't need to see the username "fart bubble" every day. Nor would I need to see "super colonoscopy man", "poopboy", etc, so pass on those usernames if you're thinking about those and hope to play against me/add me as an OF/P+/GC/Etc friend. ;)
