This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

I found it on accident myself. It is really incredible though. The app description does not do it justice. It supports copy/paste between apps, import/export with desktop, and the sound quality really is amazing. I was using it with beatmaker last night and it reminded me of when I was first learning how to use a DAW 12 years ago.

I read a review that said something to the effect of "this is Moog quality for $5, you can't even buy a Moog t shirt for $5" which is so true because Moog t shirts are like $35. That said, a piano roll/sequencer would be nice

I use this app nearly every day and love it! So here it is for free for someone.
Here's the link and code to your Cyclemeter app:
To use, visit www.abvio.com/redeem to be redirected to the right place in iTunes. Then copy and paste the code (below) and press Redeem. After it downloads, sync your iPhone and you have it.

Plants vs zombies down to .99, I'll finally pick that up.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/plants-vs-zombies/id350642635?mt=8

In exactly one day (October 28th) I will be receiving my iPod and would like to have a checklist of what games/apps to get. Would yall mind recommending some games to me? I am willing to pay up to 99 cents for an app so not just free games (I will check them out to see if it's something I would like).

Robin Hood: Sherwood Legend has dropped to FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/robin-hood-sherwood-legend/id378440739?mt=8#) though there is some grumbling about ads being inserted in this "paid" version of the game.
"This game is adapted from legendary story of British hero Robin Hood. The game is 2D cartoon style including scenes: prisons, forests, castles and so on. There are 7 chapters which every is made up 4 stages, 28 stages total, through the game. There is a boss waiting for you in every chapter. Robin Hood becomes stronger after collecting crystals and gold coins to upgrade weapons and weapon skills and defeat enemies even bosses. The game play is simple and shows a variety of different fights, combat skills with magnificent effect."

Dawn of the Dead is the newest FAAD featured title (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dawn-of-the-dead/id347666921?mt=8).
"Based on the smash hit movie from Universal Studios, Dawn of the Dead takes you inside and around the Crossroads Mall for the first time in a series of intense and terrifying levels as you fight to survive an onslaught of bloodthirsty zombies.

A terrifying zombie plague of unknown origin has broken out in your town. You've escaped your zombie-infested suburb and arrived at the entrance of the Crossroads Mall. Now you must fight to reach other survivors and get out alive..."

PushPixPull Episodes 3&4
is the latest Free App Calendar offering (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id365727159?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo=4#).

PvZ at .99 is probably as good as it gets. I got it at $2.99 and love it. Only complain is that I have to run it on safe mode on my Jailbroken iPhone to run it and it doesn't have retina display. Peggle got updated and now works on Jailbroken iPhones but still not retina display ready. Both of these games need Game Center support and maybe more DLC. I thought Peggle nights for .99 cents was awesome and wish they would add something more to PvZ. After playing it on PC, 360 and iPhone things are starting to get old.

Morning update 10/27/10:

Globall Runner is a decent doodle-ish themed runner game that's currently free

http://itunes.apple.com/app/global-runner/id367577263?mt=8

Fishing Champion just dropped to free. Not the best fishing game IMO but if you just want a somewhat decent fishing game, here you go.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/fishing-champion/id326528396?mt=8

Ping Tank is new and currently free! It's a fun multiplayer top down view tank battler.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/ping-tank/id394498787?mt=8

Crazy West Gunman just dropped to free, a decent fun western finger shooter.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/a-crazy-west-gunman/id349879541?mt=8

dBricks Twiddle just dropped to free, it's a fun popper game with a gravity twist.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/dbricks-twiddle/id395090831?mt=8

That's all for now. Not such a great roundup but some decent free fun.

FYI, PvZ runs fine on my jailbroken iPhone 4 - I don't need to run it in safe mode.

On my 3G on 4.1 jailbroken it refuses to run in safe mode or normal operation. Might be related to all the...tweaks I've made to it over the past week or so.

Undoubtedly. Jailbreaking is great, but you have to realize that if you add cool hacks, then trouble shooting will be a part of your life, especially as you add more and more. :)
The Jim & Frank Mysteries - The Blood River Files (http://appshopper.com/games/the-jim-and-frank-mysteries-–-the-blood-river-files) just dropped to $.99. Picked it up since I had passed on it during their release sale. Decent reviews, and I'm a Layton fan, so I figure I should be able to get my buck's worth out of it fairly easily.
Picked this up for $1. Definitely worth it even though it is a total rip of Professor Layton (similar puzzles too - some exactly the same). One problem is the notepad thing does not work well when you are trying to figure stuff out. It's definitely worth a dollar though.
e-Pig is coming up as .99c for me.
If you search for it on iTunes, it shows up as free in the search results, but when you go to the app, it's $0.99. Strange. It still shows up as free for me under search though so try it that way.
I am having a blast on Age of Zombies !! it is awesome !
This is just another dual-stick shooter, though, right? If so I'll pass. Cave's upcoming variation on the concept looks more interesting and original, M. Bug Panic (I can't remember how to spell it).

The bullet-hell shmup Assault Squadron is currently on sale for .99 (http://itunes.apple.com/app/assault-squadron/id358508158?mt=8).

"Welcome to Assault Squadron, an explosive and fast-moving sci-fi shoot-‘em-up. The Binary Mill and Chillingo redefine bullet-hell blasters in the iPhone's hottest arcade shmup extravaganza.

The Global Defense Force reports that Earth is under attack by a hostile, unidentified vessel containing thousands of enemy craft. Striking with unwavering precision, the invasion destroys key defensive facilities to leave Earth and its inhabitants at the mercy of fearsome alien attackers.

You are a part of the Assault Squadron; an elite tactical space combat force dispatched by the Federal Alliance to defeat the alien enemy. Assault Squadron’s explosive sci-fi missions and in-depth storyline will thrill shoot-‘em-up fans and casual players alike as they battle to save the Earth."

Okay, this isn't on sale, but everyone needs to pick this up -- now.

Have you guys ever played the tower defense flash game Protector? If so, it's on iOS now. If not, go buy it...now. It's by far the best TD game on the iPhone (well, for RPG fans). It's got over 20 hours of gameplay, tower leveling, unlocking new towers, skills, all the stuff you'd expect to find in an RPG (except for a good plot) are all here. It's also a really stat driven game, for example: When you upgrade a tower it isn't just one click to upgrade. Each individual tower progresses through an upgrade tree (with each of the 10~ towers having different trees), so by the time you reach the end of the map you could have created 20 completely different towers using only the five you start with.

Anyway, it's really, really, good. Get it. It's two bucks.

Thanks for the heads up. Like most, there are just too many games to keep up with. I try and try to put a moratorium on buying them, but I just have to pick some of these up for later.
@allyourblood

They made a free Moogfest app and it includes a demo version of Filtatron which, from what I can tell so far, seems to only be limited in that there's no copy/paste or import/export.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/moogfest/id392990311?mt=8
Many thanks! I'm gonna check this out tonight.

Oh, and Plants vs. Zombies finally dropped to .99 cents? Aw yeah! I'm so glad I held off on this one. Played it for about half an hour today; lots of fun!

Thanks I have been meaning to grab this one and this sale gave me the perfect excuse.

Morning update 10/28/10, nothing really good.

Gun Bros is a new and rather good topdown survival shooter. Good graphics and decent gameplay and it's free!

http://itunes.apple.com/app/gun-bros/id393404730?mt=8

Angry Viking also just dropped to free, another B&W survival topdown action game with the red blood theme like Madworld. Pretty decent fun as well

http://itunes.apple.com/app/angry-viking/id376982560?mt=8

Gravitate! is currently free, a decent gravity based puzzle game.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/gravitate/id393257028?mt=8

Spacescape is currently free. A "runner" game of sorts where you're a space shuttle and you have to avoid obstacles by moving up and down the screen while going sideways. This ones reaching for me.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/spacescape/id375697033?mt=8

That's all there is for today so far. There are a bunch of other craptastic games that are free, but I'll save you all the trouble of even trying them out... unless others want to post them up. ;) But definitely try the first two games on this list!

The new FAAD features for today include:

Riddim Ribbon by the makers of Tap Tap (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/riddim-ribbon/id388493734?mt=8)
"Packed with ALL NEW FEATURES, this perfect mashup of music and racing has you tilting your iPhone or iPod Touch as you speed down a crazy, curving ribbon collecting pebbles and passing checkpoints to achieve a higher score. Don't stray too far off the path or hit obstacles or you'll loose your groove and have to get back in the rhythm! Jump to the upper track for the remixed version of the song. Get it today for FREE!"

Office Heroes (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/offi...=30&siteID=OYovZCnDRhw-aGpiBURmnBscAvygp7HyXA)
"Office Heroes is a fun, FREE social game for the iPhone and iPod Touch that lets you climb the corporate ladder and deck out your corner office with hundreds of awesome items.
Climb the ranks by completing typical workday tasks such as tweeting, updating your résumé and playing solitaire (how productive!), and earn career points to spend on the latest office decorations and avatar customizations."

CheckPoints (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/checkpoints/id373392705?mt=8)
"CheckPoints is the mobile app that instantly rewards you for checking out products at stores near you. Going grocery shopping? Hanging out at the book store? Picking up a prescription? Collect points and unlock exclusive content in over a million stores by checking in and scanning featured products. Then redeem your points instantly for rewards like gift cards, airline miles, and gadgets – even charitable donations!"
Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man are both down to $.99. Finally getting some of these games I've been looking for on sale.
I have Ms. Pac-Man and like it a lot, so for 99 cents I'm in for Pac-Man too. It's got some chat feature too, unlike the Misses. Thanks for the heads up!

Also, FYI, Assault Squadron has a Lite version, so try before you buy. I'm downloading it now....
This is just another dual-stick shooter, though, right? If so I'll pass. Cave's upcoming variation on the concept looks more interesting and original, M. Bug Panic (I can't remember how to spell it).
Yeah its a dual stick shooter ( 1 stick to move, and 1 stick to shoot) but it controls very nicely on the iOS device. I guess you could wait for a lite version ;).

I also like the fact there is a lot of cursing ( funny humorous cursing )

Ok, Pac-Man is good, but is the chat broken or does it only work with friends... and by friends I mean Namco Network/game friends? No one is ever in the chat. The GameCenter integration is slapped on, to say the least, and my achievements aren't showing up right in GameCenter. The game has it's own achievements system and leaderboards which are what show up in the app. Also the game seems to ignore the mute switch on my iPhone 4 (it has a software mute, but this still stinks.) Still, it's a good game and worth 99 cents. Hopefully they fix these issues.

Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 2 has dropped to .99 for a limited time (http://itunes.apple.com/app/crash-bandicoot-nitro-kart-2/id373849969?mt=8).

"This sequel to the popular, CRASH BANDICOOT NITRO KART 3D combines the same zany gameplay with a new adventure and multiplayer action. Fans can race as Crash or one of nine other characters on 12 unique tracks for a wild ride as they gather power-ups and a multitude of weapons to slow down opponents. Friends can also challenge each other in the all new multiplayer mode. Four players can race against each other, over the internet, in three different modes."

Current FAAD offerings include:
Yoo! Hoops (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/yoo-hoops/id371258357?mt=8), another extract from the All-in-1 Gamebox collection by Triniti Interactive.
Solitaire (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/solitaire/id319400426?mt=8), the Klondike version of this classic card game.

The latest OpenFeint Free Game of the Day is Zombie Snake (http://itunes.apple.com/app/zombie-snake/id396750566?mt=8).
"After a night of living with the dead, it’s dawn and you’re dead... You’re Romero the undead serpent, a zombie snake in a zombie land... well you’re in a pet cemetery, without any menacing plants getting in your way. Slither around eating brain after brain, getting longer and longer. Just don't eat yourself or it's game over!"

BasketBall Crazy Hoop is the Free App Calendar title right now (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id393856195?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo=4).
"Immerse yourself with this new addicting game! Set your high score and become top player of Basketball Crazy Hoop game!
Experience Basketball game in absolutely different way! Basketball Crazy Hoop for the iPhone and iPod Touch gives you a fun and different way to play basketball.
This is one of the games that works perfectly smoothly on iPhone 3G , and it will ensure you lot's of fun!"
