This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

Yep, this is a very fun game. I find myself playing this more than other games.

Darn, so many choices and only $10 credit left.

I've narrowed it down to:

Hector badge of carnage $3.99
phoenix wright $2.99
plants vs zombies $2.99

I need something to last me a couple of days. I also have Sandstorm, Dexter the game, gta Chinatown, and assassins creed to entertain me

but i want something fresh. Maybe $7 at most

Hector is passable. Instead of that, save 3 bucks and buy The Jim and Frank Mysteries. A professor Layton type game.

Get PVZ and PW.

Also with the three bucks you save from buying Hector go and get Super QuickHook

All three of those are great. Hector is hilarious and great fun. PW and PvZ are just classics, too.

Yeah, I'm no help.
I don't know if it's been recommended or not but Pix'n Love Rush is quite awesome.
Gonna have to disagree. I think the game is awful, with typical crappy touch screen button controls, and repetitious gameplay where you have seen it all in the first 4 minutes with the game. The only upside is the art style, and the music.

Get PVZ and PW, phoenix wright is on sale for 3 dollars, and will last you at least a good solid 4-6 hours.
I don't know if it's been recommended or not but Pix'n Love Rush is quite awesome.
I agree, I've been playing it a ton since I purchased. Best .99 app I've bought in a while. Yes, the gameplay is repetitive but its a "high score" challenge type game. If you enjoy going for personal best or leaderboard challenges this is a fun one.

Pix 'n Love is not worth the money. The touch screen controls blow and I never felt like the game had a point.

Picked up Phoenix Wright and I'm loving that one. Ohh, also got Helsing's Fire....great game for .99.

Nice, Malik? I haven't played warblade in a while but I know I couldn't get a score like that. What are you on the leaderboards?

Well, here's something different: play soccer while racing a car. That's the premise behind SocCars, currently available for FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/soccars/id351108559?mt=8).

"Start your engine, cross the starting line and... Gooooaaaaaal!

Play soccer while racing a car: you dreamt of it and now you can thanks to SocCars!

SocCars is an exciting action game combining soccer and engines with endless challenges!

In fever pitched arenas with roaring crowds and engines, confront your opponents in “one-to-one” matches.

Dribble, accelerate, dummy, brake, shoot, overtake... In SocCars, to be awarded the Golden Ball your legs and head are not enough: you must also be an ace driver!

Ten incredible cars, all different and with unique features. Many types are available to suit your style, from the extremely agile racing car, ideal to overtake opponents, to the heavy armoured vehicle, the championship’s best defence.
Expect clever, tenacious opponents with evolving tactics!

Be the first to collect the bonuses that appear on the terrain and make your opponents raging mad!
With the “Rocket” feature you can deflect the ball’s trajectory,
selecting “Freezer” will immobilize your opponent for a moment,
while “Magnetic” will draw the ball towards you."
Secret of Mana and FF Tactics are being ported to the iPhone? I didn't know about that.
Yes sir, was announced at E3 this year!

Im like 630 something...the highest score is somewhere north of 30 billion

Am I the only one that thinks all the Donut Games games get old after 5 minutes?

While I can't say for sure the rumors of the new features are true. But every year They refresh the iPod line in September just after the back to school promotion ends. So September is happening, just the features are up for grabs.

Quite frankly I still think every game with touch screen controls controls badly. So putting that aside it's a platformer (which does have some hard levels) and the levels constantly change.

thats a shitty generalization

Probably. They're old after 30 seconds for me.

Really too bad that the Plants Vs Zombies update gave us no new gameplay, just some new achievements and bug fixes. Suck.

C'mon PopCap, give us Peggle Nights expansion and Plants Vs Zombies DLC!

A few more titles that are currently FREE:

More block-elimination fun can be yours with Storm Attack (http://itunes.apple.com/app/storm-attack/id333225781?mt=8).
"Storm Attack takes a classic genre and spins it upside down. Drag, organize, and blast away a constant stream of falling blocks… but be careful! Every minute, a storm rains down an ever-increasing swarm of blocks. It’s a constant battle against the clock as you fight for survival. Build up your BONUSES, keep an eye on your AMMO, and don’t get caught in the STORM!"

Fantastic 4 in a Row is another puzzle strategy title for you to add to your collection (http://itunes.apple.com/app/fantastic-4-in-a-row/id354728621?mt=8).
"4 In A Row has never been so much fun! Our Classic Checkers theme is one that all can enjoy as you try to beat the computer or play against a friend. The Christmas Beat theme lets you stack up the ornaments while listening to upbeat Christmas music from around the world. Our Jammin' Sports theme keeps you pumped as you play basketball versus soccer.

You can now play multiplayer head-to-head games using Bump! Just bump your devices together and play. Requires Internet connection (3G, EDGE, WIFI)."

Reminisce with the retro graphics in Amor: The Unicorn Keep (http://itunes.apple.com/app/amor-the-unicorn-keep/id379268579?mt=8).
"Amor is one of the first action games for iPhone, to deliver the classic arcade experience with fresh mechanics, big bosses, and beautifully retro hand-pixeled art!

Amor (aka Cupid) must save the rabbit kingdom from evil unicorns, by purging all 60 floors of the castle keep of their wickedness. Wield the bow that he famously carries to fire love-charged arrows into the black hearts of the menacing creatures of the Unicorn Keep, while saving captive rabbits and collecting trophies you find along the way!"

is PvZ still worth a buy at $2.99?

I was considering buying it, but then i saw an update happened and it went from like 4.5 stars to 3.

I'm just wondering if the game lacks any now, or if most of the negative reviews that made the rating go down are from people who already owned it and expected better stuff from the update.

I don't wanna buy a dud ya know..

also, is it worth is to upgrade to software 4.0 on itouch?

I've got a 3rd gen 32gb running at 3.1 or so right now...but i see a lot of problems people are having with 4.0

Dude, PVZ is one of the best games on the iDevices, and its almost laughable to call this game a 'dud'. This is straight from pop cap's description on itunes

"PLEASE NOTE: We have confirmed some reports of crashes with this Plants vs. Zombies update for devices running iOS4 and iOS4.01. New installations of the game are not affected. Existing users who update the game may be affected. We are trying to identify the root cause so that we can get an update out as quickly as possible.

AT THIS TIME, we recommend against updating an existing installation of Plants vs. Zombies if you’ve previously purchased the game.

We hope to be able to provide some work-around steps later today that may help some users in the interim before we release an update to solve the problem. We will provide new information here in the App Store, and on PopCap’s customer support forum at PopCap.com as soon as a solution is in place.

We sincerely regret any inconvenience."

If you haven't bought it yet you will be fine to get the new version, its legacy users upgrading to the newest version. I assure you this game is not a 'dud'. As for the Ios4 update, I have the same ipod as you, and haven't had any experiences with it crashing. Folders for apps, custom homescreen wallpapers, multitasking, and general UI tweaks make this update absolutely worth having. Unless of course you enjoy pages upon pages of apps with little to no organization.

Most of the problems are with iPhone 4s. PvZ is definitely worth a buy and knowing PopCap an emergency update is coming out within a week or two. PopCap updates all their apps when needed unlike EA or Gameloft.

Also OS 4.0 is definitely worth an upgrade multitasking alone on a 3g iTouch is very impressive and speedy

Don't listen to those morons who are rating it down. PvZ is easily the best purchase I've made on my iPhone. I'm running iOS4.0.1 and it's fine.

It is a great game, but the update removes the Michael Jackson zombie... how sad...

wtf.... no mj zombie???? were they afraid of litigation from mj's estate? I don't really care as long as they replace it with a zombie that does the same thing.
CHAIN LINK PRO dropped to $0.99

looks pretty good, anyone tried it.

http://appshopper.com/games/chain-link-pro
Not sure where you're seeing that price. It was free a week ago, but went back up to $1.99 on July 22. It is a fun game, though, with a neat mechanic. You drag similar colored orbs together to make chains, and then through them into a black hole. Bonus points for longer chains, etc.

According to Destructoid, that update also removed the Michael Jackson Dancing Zombie from the game because Michael Jackson's estate got mad, or something. :/

The OpenFeint Free Game of the Day for Wednesday is Slap Game Pro (http://ax.itunes.apple.com/app/slap-game-pro/id363217055?mt=8).

Run, jump, and shoot with Caper World -- Not for Kids (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/caper-world-not-for-kids/id370828137?mt=8), currently FREE.

"Caper World, a utopia for game-freaks, is only for those who crave for challenges. Unique style of running, jumping and shooting of Caper World redefines adventure. Every nook and corner here is jam-packed with surprises.
