This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Price Drop Sites

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.
That's a great idea. Someone who will maintain a thread of all the GC names should go make one. General Gaming works for where it should go for the moment.
I'd be willing to take care of that thread. I'm bored right now. I guess I could go make that right now.

UPDATE: Here is the thread: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7599893.

Open to naming/layout changes. Just figured I'd get the thread made.

Another top-down shooter, Shoot the Magic, is currently available for FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/shoot-the-magic/id376524972?mt=8).

"The game is a 2D top-down shooter with fantastic graphics, visual effects and musics.
In this game, you're going to play as the Magic Girl Kui. Your ultimate goal is to beat the evil Zeta and to save your beloved brother.

As an touhou-like STG, game has original HIT count system. The longer you focus your fire onto enemy, the higher score you can have."

I definitely recommend this game to anyone interested in a 2D top-down shoota. Seriously though its very purdy :D

 4.0 makes it out of reach for 1G Touch. It's annoying being abandoned by Apple and the devs.

Ouch, well I am going to lie to you really fast "The game sucks"......*runs back to ipod touch to play *

Isn't GameFlow just Ask Madden? I was playing Madden 11 on PS3 at BB and that's basically what it seemed like to me. Unless I'm missing something...

I just tried out a game called "Pinball HD" and it runs on the new ipod touch 4th gen amazingly !! The visuals are also very stunning . By far the best pinball game on the device :D

$0.99
I bought a 64GB 4th Gen Touch today. My thoughts so far are:

- Netflix streaming is slightly lower quality in a few videos. As far as I can tell the retina display makes newer streamed movies look great, but magnifies some of the flaws of the lesser quality films. This will probably go away when they update the app to support retina displays.
- It doesn't seem as bright as my 3rd gen Touch. It's actually overly bright, and I need to turn it down. The 3rd gen touch units have a different non-retina display that in my experience was so bright that it almost bled contrast. Blindingly bright. It also drained my battery just as fast to make up for it.
- Battery life is *much* better then the 3rd gen I replaced.
- The unit feels about 25% faster overall.

If there's any interest, I have a 16GB 1st Generation Touch available for sale, pm me for details.
I picked up my 64GB iPod Touch yesterday as well. However I don't have a previous touch to compare it to (just an iPod video that's 4 years old). But the battery life is great. Mine seemed not bright enough and I had to turn it up.

Going app hunting now :D

This is not about a game sale, but it seems like the best place to ask, so I was wondering if someone can help me out:

Are there any other games similar to Scarabeus Pearl of Nile? Or will they be doing more levels? My wife loves this game like you wouldn't believe and it's not really like most puzzlers, its very unique. She already finished the game once with the 40 or so levels that came with it. She works very hard and I would love to get her something similar to pass the time and to relax. Thanks.

Not quite a game, but a really fun autotune app:

I Am T-Pain is on sale for 66% off this weekend ($2.99 -> $0.99)

Just posting to say thanks to everyone who updates the thread with free apps. I've only spent 3 bucks since I've had my phone because of it!

On a similar note, Robo Rush and ijump get my vote for duds of the month... Robo Rush controls horribly and robs too many sound effects from other games (Super Mario series, mostly). ijump is just plain awful.

See, son of a B I just bought this a couple weeks ago full price. It is hilarious though if you at ALL have any interest in making fun videos this is the app to get. Exported my vid to an .mp4 that you can basically do whatever with no problem. Be warned there's tons of in-app crap for you to spend $ on but it is fully functional as is.

Then, will your hands rest still enough to maintain the platforms in perfect balance?
Are you afraid this is another impossible game? Oh, very much so!!

Look: your only target shall be to collect as many orange squares as you can, avoiding to touch the pale-blue triangles, otherwise you’ll be obliged to start again from the scratch! (By the way: all this just using a single tool, the accelerometer)

A non–stop test of yourself and your friends aimed to check and find out among the players from all over the world, those very few gifted with a solid brain and nerves of steel!"

The winner of "Best Mobile Game" at the Swedish Game Awards 2010, Phoenix Spirit is currently available for FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/phoenix-spirit/id361664606?mt=8).

"The Mother Tree is ill and only you can heal it!

Main appeal of the game is about exploring the forest and discovering the cause of the Mother Tree's illness. To do this you will be able to unlock new areas as well as revisit old areas in order to gain new powers to cure the disease. The game is based loosely on the Metroidvania concept but provides a more relaxing experience.

The gameplay is comparable to a traditional shooter but with the freedom of flying. This adds exciting new gameplay in a whole new dimension!

Phoenix Spirit is a game that is for everyone. Even if you haven't played games before it will be easy to understand with it's simple controls and gameplay using the iPhone's accelerometer. Getting through the game will be fun and provide plenty of challenge."

attn musicians: icegear has both of their excellent synth apps for half off. both of these support clipboard exporting too, so they'll work with beatmaker and thumbjam etc. i only have argon, and i'm buying xenon based on the strength of that synth.

Argon $1
Xenon $3

I feel your pain. I just got an iPhone 4 and I bought it because my co-worker had it on his 3GS and it was so fun autotuning my voice and doing the videos and "karaoke" sessions. And then I saw it drop to $0.99 last night and I had a "DOH!" moment. I second this vote, if you don't own this app already, GET IT! The only next best step would be free, but I really doubt this will be free any time soon. Just goes to show, any app over $0.99 will eventually be at the $0.99 mark. haha It's the dilemma of supporting the developer by paying full price or being a serious CAG and paying bottom line price for any game/app. :whistle2:k

The word search game Word Quest Plus is the next OpenFeint Free Game of the Day offering (http://itunes.apple.com/app/word-quest-plus/id356416219?mt=8).

"Are you disappointed by all the amateurish word search games in the app store, with their small unreadable and weak puzzles, awful user interfaces, childish silly graphics, and limited content and functionality? If you are, or want something better, try Word Quest!

Word Quest is a fun, polished word and number search puzzle with many twists on the classic genre. With innovative additions to the original concept, challenging features and layouts, and tons of content, it'll keep you motivated and playing game after game. And unlike other word search games, the puzzles adjust to your preferences to create just the right complexity with the intersections and coverage amounts you want. Word Quest is OpenFeint enabled with leader-boards, achievements and challenges (connect and play online against your friends), and is Wikipedia search capable."

If you like the recent Stair Dismount game, you may be interested in SPiN – Super Shape Puzzle by the same developers (http://itunes.apple.com/app/spin-super-shape-puzzle/id294263403?mt=8#). It's FREE until September 15.

"Train your fingers to be as fast as the eye in this game of silhouettes and shape recognition!

SPiN is simple, colorful and fun. "Rotate and match objects for a high score" - that sums it up in one sentence. Well, there's more, but you'll learn all about chain combos and unlockable trophies when playing the game.

Together with stylized visuals and the cheeriest soundtrack ever, SPiN is easy to pick up but infinitely challenging. We mean it - the game starts out casually, but keep playing and you'll discover the quickest game on the iPhone!
If you're a fan of Choose Your Own Adventure books from back in the day, check out these free "games." Some are paid, but there's at least five to choose from for free.

Xenon it is. Thanks.

Argon is also awesome, but xenon totally dwarfs it with the sheer amount of content and potential it has. $3, $5, even $10 is a steal for what you get with that app.

Argon is more like a VST, Xenon is much closer to a DAW, if that helps.

Yes it does help, even though I had to google everything you said in your last sentence. :D

Developers also have some good tutorials that should help me in using the program.
