This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

it doesnt look that great from the amazon store front page but it is actually a pretty decent case. Even though it is not my permanent case I could easily go a few months with this one, but you can get free 2 day shipping if you have prime.

- The case cost $8.66

CLICK HERE TO GO TO MY PHOTOBUCKET PAGE TO SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE ON MY IPOD TOUCH (sorry for shitty photo's they are taken with my old phone)

amazon link to case : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0041F4F7Y/ref=oss_product

On the topic of cases (and before someone pops in just to say how annoyed they are by the case talk, since it's not an app "deal"), I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good site for getting a custom case made... aka, I design some art and put it up the way I want (like cafe press/zazzle/etc for shirts and crap) and then they put it on a case. I wouldn't mind having a case, but only if it's got a little unique flavor. Thanks in advance. Also... I hate that Game Center has got me playing iMobsters... and I hate even more that I'm kind of enjoying myself (Mob code = SFFJY9 if you got suckered too).

Can you post those photos somewhere else? I can't access your photobucket account, it's private.
Argon is also awesome, but xenon totally dwarfs it with the sheer amount of content and potential it has. $3, $5, even $10 is a steal for what you get with that app.

Argon is more like a VST, Xenon is much closer to a DAW, if that helps.
Is there any reason to get Argon if you have Xenon?

www.getuncommon.com seems to be a good one. This is coming from me googling though not personal experience. If that doesn't work and you want more help finding one, tell me which iphone/ipod you have.

Thanks for this... I currently have a Touch 3G that will be gone once my 4G arrives from Amazon, so I will have to wait for a Touch case designed for the new size/camera/etc... Uncommon seems to be pretty good from what I've seen/read just now.
Anybody play NCAA on the iPad, may be worth a shot at 99 cents, but I wonder how the buttons are laid out, if it is playable.
I went ahead and got it. I think it's definitely worth buying for .99. I have only played a couple games so far. There is a dpad at the bottom left, and at the bottom right there are a few boxes that let you change your play or whatever. The controls are pretty good in my opinion. When you make a pass you just click on someone who is open, and there's a slow motion button that will give you a second to decide. The controls aren't perfect, but in my opinion it's playable. I'm having a lot of fun with it.

edit: I played it on iPod Touch. I just realized you said iPad.

Gravity Runner is the FAAD Gold App today

http://appshopper.com/games/gravity-runner

I had this on my wish list for a while, and from the few minutes I've played so far, it's great fun. It's yet another running game like Canabalt, etc, but when you double tap on the screen, gravity flips for your guy, so he'll be running on the ceiling.

And the icon is a skull for a reason - you will die a LOT in this game.

Nanostudio is on sale, it's supposed to be $20 but it's been $15 since launch, I don't know if they'll actually raise the price like they say they will.

@Porieux

Argon has features that none of the synths in xenon have, like 3 oscillators and a few others, so you should be able to coax more complex sounds from it. I paid full price for it and I have no regrets, $1 is a total steal.

Oh, wow. Thanks for the info. I wanna buy it, but I have so much hardware as it is that this is just one more thing. I really want it for a "scratch pad", but I wish it'd come down just a few bucks. I'll probably end up buying it anyway.

Thanks again.

X's & O's Football lets you celebrate the gridiron old-school style, currently for FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/xs-os-football/id302928347?mt=8).

"In X’S AND O’S FOOTBALL, fight your way offensively downfield to score as many touchdowns as you can in four “60-second” quarters. Playing as the coach, quarterback, running backs, and receivers, you’ll have to be at the top of your game to earn every first down. Come up short on fourth down and you’ll be hitting the showers!

As coach, first select the play from your playbook and set your receivers to run a variety of passing and running routes, such as the curl, deep out, and post. Then as quarterback, set your players in position, hike the ball and choose your receiver or hand off the ball. Time your pass carefully to get the ball right into your receiver’s hands, and then control the receiver to run downfield for a touchdown! Once the receiver has the ball, you can slide your finger across the iPhone/iPod touch to control his movement to the goal line! Use your finger to adjust the running direction by moving your finger up and down, and adjust the speed by sliding your finger right and left. "

No, I need the Ipod Touch 4g version. Thanks for the info, though.

I'm currently using a DLO Hipcase made for a iPod Touch 3G. It has a cutout for the volume buttons, although not perfect since the 4G is shaped differently.

Then I applied a Power Support screen protector. Originally made for the Touch 2G/3G but fits fine on the 4G. There's 2mm gap on the top and bottom of the unit but the side comes to the edges perfectly. Since it's clear, the facetime camera has no problems even though it's covered. Yes the case covers the rear camera, but when I use that I take it out of the case.

Not perfect, but it works until Power Support releases a 4G screen protector and companies start releasing fitted cases. I'm planning on buying this Griffin case.

Most Best Buy stores are carrying 4 fruity/pastel colored Belkin cases fitted for the 4G, but the only screen protection kit I saw was the Zagg. The Zagg wanted me to spray on liquid on my fingers, both sides of the protector, and squeegee it away then sit for 12 hours. Not my bag so I returned it today and installed my extra power support protector (they come in 2 packs).

If you want a good scratch pad, try Flare Scratch. It lets you easily import songs from your iTunes plus has some other good included mixes. It's $5, but Baby Scratch is its free (non-importing) counterpart.

Free App Calendar is featuring the puzzler Flick & Dodge today (http://www.freeappcalendar.com/details.php?id=367).

"There are variety of levels each with new style of play. Player has to flick the shapes to fill the empty spots overcoming the variety of obstructions.

Its a system like cricket, chess or carrom but every level can be played again and again in a new style which keeps the game fresh for player.

Flick & dodge is an original casual game. It's very addictive and fun. There are multiple ways of playing the game. It has high re-playability value. It gives a feel of a simple game. But try completing in the record turns. Attack by aiming and flicking the objects. Dodging busters on the path in quick action. Flick and Dodge portrays simple yet engaging gameplay."

That's a good idea, but I've always had luck with Otterbox. Since they don't have cases yet though, I ordered this one, and as long it not a complete piece of crap, it should last until they do release their cases. As for the screen, I figured since its a 3"5 screen, I just ordered a generic screen protector for 3 bucks. If i remember correctly, the old otterbox defenders came with a screen protector.

My mistake. Sorry.

The strategy puzzler Tangle is the latest Free App Calendar offering (http://www.freeappcalendar.com/details.php?id=368).

"Tangle is a strategy puzzle game where you try to connect all the Tangle islands by bridges.

The people of Tangle are very social and like to visit. They need your help to figure out how to use all their supplies in such a way that all the Tangle islands are connected together so they can visit each other.
Each Tangle island has a number on it which represents the number of supplies that island has for bridge construction. A white number means more bridges can be connect to the island, a green number means the island has just the right number of bridges, and a red number means the island can’t support that number of bridges.

Each Tangle island can have 0, 1, or 2 bridges connect to each side. The bridges must connect to other islands, but the people of Tangle haven’t yet figured out how to make diagonal bridges. They also haven’t figured out how to make bridges cross in mid air. So no bridges to nowhere and no crossing allowed.

Have fun and see how many Tangle puzzles you can solve."
