This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

I had my Touch a full year before I got my Hero. It also gets used a lot more than my Hero, other than when I make phone calls. I never said that one system was better than the other, just a design that I feel is a flaw. That said, I do believe that you are a complete moron. I'm keeping that polite, just so you know.

Is that on sale for free, or what exactly is the price?

I currently have my brand new Touch syncing right now and I'm crazy excited and impatient. Hurray! Also... TEAM JACOB!!!! OMGzzzzzzzzzzz, but not really.

The math game TwentyFour! has dropped to FREE for the first time (http://itunes.apple.com/app/twentyfour/id342866191?mt=8).

"An addictive new take on a classic math card game! The goal of the game is deceptively simple: make the number 24 using the four given numbers and basic arithmetic -- addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

For example, given the numbers 4, 7, 8, 8, one possible solution is: (7-8/8)*4, but it can also be solved as: 8*(4+7-8). Some problems have many solutions, others only one. Some puzzles you'll solve very quickly... but some are so devilishly difficult they'll drive you batty!"

FAAD is featuring Battle Bears: Zombies for its main freebie right now (http://www.freeappaday.com/napp.php?id=401).

ALL NEW WEAPONS AND BOSSES will leave you with sore thumbs as you blast away while trying to make sense of this violent-yet-wacky world! Don’t worry, you’ll get a breather with the hilarious cut scene movies that will either make you laugh out loud or have you saying, 'What?!'."

Free App Calendar has Parachute Rescue for its free offering (http://www.freeappcalendar.com/details.php?id=369).

"Crazy pilots lost helicopter control. Your friends were in helicopter and falling one by one in sea where there is shark waiting to eat them. Rescue them giving parachute and land them on your small ship. Join this rescue operation and enjoy shooting effects.

Just touch on falling friends to give them parachute and safely land them on your ship. If you miss they will fall in water and eaten by shark. There are also heavyweight falling boxes. Avoid them and if you take boxes your ship will go down and finally for 3 boxes your ship will sink.

Most addictive part if shooting and destroy boxes. There are 2 buttons at left and right to shoot. If you can shoot boxes you will get points and for consequent shooting to boxes will give you bonus points. But, be careful and don't shoot falling man since this will decrease your life."

If you enjoyed the word game Moxie, you might want to pick up Moxie 2 while it's available for FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/moxie-2/id345386004?mt=8).

"You start with a hand of 64 letters that you go through "Solitaire" style. Place each letter on the board or "Pass". If you "Pass" you can't go back to that letter.

You score points by:
1. Making unique words with the letters
2. Transforming your words into other words by adding and replacing letters. For example: "TIN" becomes "TINE" which becomes "TILE" which becomes "TILED" and so on.
3. Spelling special "Moxie words" for bonus points"

The Activision puzzler Pix Maze is currently available for FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/pix-maze/id369038630?mt=8).

"Reveal a hidden world when you play through these mind-bending line mazes!

Get ready to explore the labyrinths of Pix maze, but be sure to watch out for dead ends! The game tracks your time and the number of dead ends you run into, so be careful. Pix Maze also allows you to try your own hand at creating special pictures to turn into mazes using Maze Creator. With space to save 32 mazes and the ability to create two different sizes you become the designer in this exciting addition. Mazes are arranged by size and vary in difficulty, ensuring that Pix Maze will provide hours of fun both children and adults!"

Time Crisis Strike 1 was like 10 minutes long. I'll need more than Namco's word that TC2 gives a bit more gameplay.

And a price point lower than $10. Seriously, they could have patched Mr. Driller to have a nonshit D-pad by now. I don't trust them to bring quality any more.

Still, I am a GIANT TC fan so I will still have it in BargainBin.
Your obsession with Fire_Thief is kinda frightening.
I was talking about the game. Like "RollingSkull" later points out the first one was VERY short so I dont have much faith for the 2nd one.

Time Crisis 2 seems a bit ridiculous at $10... but I am super excited to finally mess around with my very own frog! :p

I thought the original time crisis was trash, way too short, seemed to run poorly, and I found the controls wonky. Having to tilt the screen out of my natural viewing angle to reload is not fun.

Is there a Plus friends list topic like what was done with Game Center? Since Pocket Frog seemed kinda popular, thought it would be nice to have people to trade frogs with.

Not that I know of... it would probably be better to just put them all into one thread than having one thread for GC, one for +, and one for OF.

I agree, give it a rest, the ppl complaining about FT are more irritating than anything FT may post, and if you're offended (for some unknown reason) by FT just block him. It's much harder to keep blocking everyone who complains about FT.

Honestly if this was a school yard FT would be surrounded by all you bullies.

The game that goes along with the iBook thriller Eurostorm is currently available for FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/eurostorm/id389815358?mt=8).

"You must complete your mission!! Make sure the paratrooper makes it safely to the bullet train below. Avoid the drone at all costs and use the parachutes to your advantage! There are 20 exciting levels sure to keep you busy for hours. The levels are always changing so the possibilities are endless!"

+1, especially that last sentence. Give it a rest, all.

On a different note, Reiner Knizia's Medici was released on Aug 6th, but is still at an introductory 25% off price of $2.99. Unfortunately it doesn't have online multiplayer, but the developer is promising it will be coming, likely via OpenFeint. They've already put out two updates (bug fixes), so they seem to be actively supporting it. It's working great on my iPhone 4 running 4.0.1. It does have local wireless/bluetooth multiplayer and pass & play multiplayer, though, in addition to single-player vs. AI (or a mix). I just got it and have only played one game so far, but it seems well done. I'm trying to wrap my head around the strategy still.

One thing I don't like is that the iPad version is a separate (and more expensive) purchase, but then I don't have an iPad (yet).
Is this only in the UK store? Or is the US version on sale too?
U.S., too. There were quite a few posts on it a couple of pages back.

Because the game explains the strategy like crap, is why.

And holy hell, AI BIDDING TAKES A DECADE AND A HALF. I can't play this game until they speed that the hell up.

That said, your goal is to just become wealthy by the end of it all, so you just need to balance the single good specialization bonuses with getting valuable goods for steady income each day.

I was wondering if anyone here has played Highborn and if yes, what are your thoughts? Looks like an interesting little game...

Also, I'm really love my new Touch. The screen may not be the same as the iPhone 4, but it's still beautiful and the battery seems to be decently better with a higher brightness level too. And I can't give a reason, but it just feels really nice in my hand too.

I picked this up a few weeks ago when it was free, and just started playing it last week. I love it. I'm only three missions in, but it provides a nice challenge without getting too frustrating (we'll see how it continues to ramp up), and it has a great sense of humor (I've laughed out loud several times already).

RollingSkull - I don't expect a game to "explain the strategy". Part of the fun is discovering your own strategy. I'm still working on it, but getting better. So far I'm really enjoying the game. My only complaints are lack of online and that it's pretty clearly a scaling down in size of the iPad version - they need to make the UI better fir the smaller screen of the iPhone.
