This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

I know this forum is primarily about games, but I was wondering if any guitarists out there have had a chance to use any of the "interface" guitar apps currently available. By that, I'm specifically wondering how the iRig stacks up against other offerings that use some kind of interface to connect your guitar to your iDevice. I'm mostly concerned about signal latency and overall tone quality (I hate fizzy distortion). I'd really appreciate any feedback anyone can provide. Thanks!

I don't know what all the fuss is about. I played through the original one and found it to play just fine. In fact, it was quite nice not having to mash my right thumb down everytime I wanted to attack a monster. To each his own, I guess.

Not worth it. Skyfire transcodes flash video so you can watch it on the phone. Only flash video is supported, no other flash like games, apps or hulu is supported.

Well somebody thought it was worth it.

(From Skyfire Blog) :

Skyfire for iPhone has been received with unbelievable enthusiasm. Despite our best attempts and predictions, the demand far exceeds our initial projections.

The user experience was performing well for the first few hours, but as the surge continued, the peak load on our servers and bandwidth caused the video experience to degrade.

Thus we are effectively ‘sold out’ and will temporarily not accept new purchases from the App Store. We are working really hard to increase capacity and will be accepting new purchases from the App Store as soon as we can support it.

We are very grateful for the demand. Within 5 hours, Skyfire for iPhone became the top grossing app, the third highest paid app overall and the top application in the Utilities category. Wow!

Please bear with us as we bring our capacity in line with the incredible demand – stay tuned.

Thanks, Robert.

I have iRig and have tried a few of the other ones. I would say from the ones I've tried iRig is the best. The latency is actually not that bad. One downside is that on iPad, iRig does not work with USB audio interfaces (which is how I was planning to use it, but didn't find out until after I bought it). Now, it does not compare in any way with my Axe-FX Ultra, but of course I wasn't expecting that. For what it is it's ok, better than I expected. I'm pretty sure there is a demo version you can try for free, you should check it out. Let me know if you have any other questions, I haven't used it in a while but I could fire it up and give more specific feedback if you want.

To me that sounds like they are trying to put a positive spin on "oh shit, we fucked up..."

From TouchArcade, a couple of new freemium games that might be worth a download:

Lil' Pirates, Free[ Forum Thread ] — IUGO and Capcom teamed up to create this pirate-themed freemium game. You'll be able to tweak out your ship, recruit crew members, equip them however you'd like, then engage in ship to ship battles. IUGO and Capcom have had a track record of making some pretty cool games, making Lil' Pirates totally worth checking out.
100 Rogues just went on sale for $1

Recommended? I've had roguelikes on my mind lately ever since Spelunky...
I've bought WORSE crap for a $1 on the Iphone. Reviews seem interesting.

Odd coincidence, Spelunky reminded me why I don't like roguelikes. Procedural generated levels + brittle characters = repeating soulless ugly levels over and over = not much fun.

SIIG got updated. For the record, the Iphone version of SIIG and 360 versions have the same content, with the 360 version having much more content after the Iphone levels but lacking a few bonus levels and the DLC the Iphone version has. Well SIIG Iphone just now got a Survival mode that advertises branching stages, which is not even close to anything I've seen in the 360 version.

Still, 360 wins handily unless this is amazing.

FAAD is also offering the 20-titled Monster Game Pack bundle as one of its featured freebies right now (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/monster-game-pack/id300512580?mt=8).
"Are you ready to turn your iPhone or iPod into a great gaming machine? Download Monster Game Pack and never be bored gain. Moster Game Pack is a collection of 20 games all located under one icon and all for free. There are no lite games and no in-app purchases to get more games. They are full games and all for free!

Monster Game Pack is also integrated with Apple's Game Center so you can compare your scores on certain games with your friends and everyone worldwide!"

Great App a Day is featuring Arcade Cats: Magnificent puzzle adventure (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/arcade-cats-magnificent-puzzle/id393866712?mt=8).
"Straightforward game-play and intuitive controls allow Arcade Cats to be fully enjoyed by everyone regardless of age or gaming skills. Don’t hesitate, outplay boredom and outsmart every dull moment with Arcade Cats.

This game is best described as quite literally a game of cat and mouse – with a few twists and surprises thrown in along the way. Playing as the Ramses Brothers, a cluster of witty mice, players are tasked with collecting enough stars to finish out each round without running into the claws of roaming cats, the mice mortal enemies."

Free App Calendar has the shooter To The Point (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id336831637?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo=4).
"You've got some arrows. You've got some targets. Shoot the targets for glorious points! That's ... To The Point.
Your targets are varied. You've got your targetty target. You've got your squirrely target. And you've got your girly target.
Hit the regular target and you get points. The more points, the happier you become. And we all strive for happiness, no?
The squirrel awards with time! After all, that is what squirrels do.
Fancy yourself a modern-day William Tell? Shoot the apple off the girl's head for glorious points!
But ... aim carefully or suffer the consequences should you hit the girl instead!
Now, go forth and fling some arrows through the air at high velocities for no good reason at all!
Enjoy!"

I got an "unable to purchase" popup when I tried to grab Monster Game pack on the phone. Anyone ever seen that before?
I got an "unable to purchase" popup when I tried to grab Monster Game pack on the phone. Anyone ever seen that before?
Trust me when I say it's not worth downloading. There are much better versions of the individual games offered that frequently drop to free. That's why this game wasn't in my morning update ;)

God Strike just dropped to free. Pretty fun tapping madness when you get to the higher levels.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/god-strike/id384393784?mt=8

Hunter and Wolves has also dropped to free. Decent gyroscope game where you avoid the wolves as long as you can.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/hunter-and-wolves/id383592983?mt=8

Lordi The Game is a pretty fun and new rhythm game that's currently free. It has decent graphics of you as a goth axe wielding dude killing zombies and such.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/lordi-the-game/id382391011?mt=8

Fish Soccer is the latest Openfeint game of the day... it's like pong or those air hockey games but with underwater animals as the paddles. Play at your own risk!

http://itunes.apple.com/app/fish-soccer/id378575921?mt=8

Apparently the 100 Rogues price drop was a mistake of timing. It was suppose to go on sale once the 2.0 update is out. So it may go back to full price, but it should drop again once that is out. I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

KungFu Battle: Tappi Bear is currently free! Simple but fun game of beating up bears from stealing your donuts... a little TD'esque.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/kungfu-battle-tappi-bear/id387134191?mt=8

Titans vs. Olympians is currently free. A fun card game like magic or... yu-gi-oh haha

http://itunes.apple.com/app/titans-vs-olympians/id397603764?mt=8

Trap Master - Dragon's Treasure is once again free. A fun adventure/puzzler game where you dodge things while collecting jewels.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/max-injury/id320955146?mt=8

Pool is currently free... self explanatory on this one. I still like Pool Bar better (it was free a few weeks ago) but this is a pretty good pool game as well

http://itunes.apple.com/app/pool/id284948990?mt=8

Fare City: Taxi Mania is currently free. A fun strategy/puzzler game of drawing lines to get taxi fairs.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/fare-city-taxi-mania/id330222186?mt=8

Watercolor War: Bomb that man! is new and currently free. It a sort of TD game where you're timing your bomb drops from a flyby plane trying to take out the troopers assaulting your base.

http://itunes.apple.com/app/watercolor-war-bomb-that-man/id397255594?mt=8

Forthose that can't enough jumper games:

Toward Heaven is also currently free, goth skeleton jumping.
Didn't see this posted. Super Mega Worm is on sale for $.99.
It look really good, I didn't bite the first time it was .99, guess I should this time. How good is it? Or rather, how long is it? I tend to stray from single player iphone games pretty quickly if they aren't very interesting.

Super Mega Worm is a cool game, but one I don't play because each game goes on and on and on and I get bored with it before it's over. Having said that, they updated it to have some sort of timed mode, so that might breath some life into for me. I haven't tried the new mode yet.

I bought Super Mega Worm when it was on sale the first time. I played one game and it lasted long enough where it wasn't fun at all and I decided I didn't want to play it again.

Exactly. But maybe the timed mode, if it's short enough, will save the game. I'll check it out... eventually.

Bought Prince of Persia Warrior Within!! Finally!!

EVERYONE, I suggest you get this AWESOME game at this AMAZING price. =] =] =]

I'm still debating on this one. I actually stopped playing Assassin's Creed Altair's Chronicles on my iPod Touch because of how horrible the controls were for the platforming portions. Is it any better with PP:WW?

Might download the lite, but also would have to delete a massive amount of stuff just to do that.
