iPhone Announced! Wow....

Mehhhh. I would've cared two years ago, but my MP3 player can play videos and MP3's and my phone can call, text and send pix to everyone. Is the IPhone really necessary? And the touch screen.. bleh. That will not work well.

Its very nice looking, and since its touch screen that pretty much means the next ipods will be IMO.

Costs to much, and following apple's tradition their will be a better one out next year about this time.

Pretty much my thinking as well. I want one, but will do without at $500 WITH a 2 year contract.

yea, i'm pretty surprised that it runs mac OS X.

this is finally the touch widescreen ipod that everyone's been anticipating.

Very nice, but for $500, I'll get a W810i or W900 and still have money left over. iPhone isnt worth over $300 IMO.

 @ first feature listed!

If theres a way I can use that without scratching the shit out of it, then I'm in for 100 for sure.

only 499 and 599!

No, just like the iPod and now the iPhone, Im not buying this overpriced shit.

The cool things about phones grow old after about a week, all I need is a camera and a mp3 player, which can be done for much cheaper than this crap.

After reading the article and really looking at all the features, this is something I will most likely invest in. I currently have Verizon and may get another phone within the next month for business use. If news hits that its only for Cingular I'll have to go with them. After having my current phone (LG VX9800) theres no way I can go without a keyboard, so the whole multitouch thing is very appealing. I read on the user comments that Apple patented multitouch screens? If thats true, that sucks. I was hoping eventually Nintendo would use that kind of tech in the next DS.

Hmm. This, or the "free" phone that comes with a plan and a game console of my choice...

Agreed. Chances are other companies will copy it pretty soon and sell it for much less anyway.

Very slick, but also very fucking expensive. I think I can live without it, but I'll jump on it once it hits the sub $300 range.

Nice, but I'd rather wait for their next-gen iPod as it will have the same cool interface but probably much more compact. That thing is kinda bulky.

fyi/ Cingular to be exclusive U.S. carrier for Apple's iPhone.

iPhone will be available in the U.S. beginning in June 2007 in a 4-gigabyte model for $499 — and in an 8-gigabyte model for $599. It will work in combination with Apple's iTunes running on either a PC or Mac.

Can anyone think of anything else they could (realistically) add to it or to other phones in general at this point? Only thing I could hope for is a universal remote feature, then I'd pretty much always have it with me.

I think ill wait for future generations, not only because its going to drop in price and better versions will be released, but I need to save up :p
looks cool but battery life doesnt seem to be the best
Doesnt sound too bad at all. Talk time is 5 hours... I think the razr is around 6.5.

Darn, I just renewed my contract last October. But that, no doubt, will work in my favor, since many Apple products hit their peak a few years later.

If this was with Sprint/Nextel and I wasn't getting laid off...

Ahh well, I hate cell phones (and telephony in general) but good god that thing is sexy. My only concern is a touch screen device just sitting in my pocket with car keys/loose change/lighters/beer caps/etc... I'd have to put it in a sock or something, but then it'd look like I'm stuffing my trousers.

That TV thing looked pretty neat too. It'd be nice if it upconverted any video file on your mac/pc hard drive. Think about the high def porn you could stream to your tv. Wonderful.

You can cancel for free right now since Cingular is upping the price of text messages.

The click wheel a revolutionary interface?

I can't say I'm not impressed by this, but I don't think it'll be worth it, at least for the first one.
The battery life looks like it's gonna suck, and I'm really skeptical as to how well a touchscreen will work on a phone. Even if it does, I want to know how scratch resistant it is.
And does it really need OSX? I don't think so.

Factor in the cost, and I don't think this is worth it.

I say the price tag is worth it if you could hook the baby up to a larger screen and use all its OS X functions like a mini laptop... I would totally be sold if it did that.

uhh, was this rhetorical?

Because my answer is "THIS."

Why? Because I can take this with me, and it does a fucking lot. It looks to me like someone has finally designed an incredible convergence device.

That said, I own a w800i... if you're in the market for one, it's for sale!

Uhm... yes. It's highly recognized as being one.

Maybe you should have gone with: The mighty mouse a revolutionary interface?

Huh... thats pretty interesting. Its amazing how many people would be willing to pay for this stupid phone but bitch about $600 being too much for a PS3.

I'm very happy about this news and this thing shatters my expectations.

Definitely NOT buying the first gen or two but I'll get one shortly after that.

a phone is a necessity these days and a MUCH bigger status symbol than a video game console. nobody cares what game consoles you have, but everybody talks about their phones all the time.

QFT. Though $600 is too much for a PS3 as well.

Apossum, I'd consider getting a new group of people to talk to if you shoot the shit about your cell phones all the time. Honestly, who cares what type of cell phone you have?

Two completely different products. But yes, I would rather spend $600 on an iPhone since it is a device I would have with me at all times and would use everyday.

For me its completely different. I hate my damn phone and avoid using it at all costs.

There's that and the fact that everytime you got it out to use it you'd grab the attention and jealousy of all the people around you...

Never thought about it that way. It's odd, I feel $600 is a lot for a game console yet I don't think I'll feel like a douche if I drop that same amount for the iPhone (if I ever get one).

And I wouldn't go as far as calling the Click Wheel revolutionary, but it is the best interface for an MP3 player IMO, second to none.
