Iphone vs Blackberry. Need help deciding which to get. Thoughts, Opinions, Etc.

I need a phone for business/personal use. I can go with either Verizon Wireless or AT&T (they have the best service in the area). I am trying to decide which one would suit my needs better. I am currently leaning towards the iphone for the larger screen (for reading emails/internet), apps and the ipod capabilities. They both will cost me the exact same per month so that does not matter. I know a lot of CAG members have blackberry's and iphones so whats all of your opinions, thoughts, etc. on each of the phones? Thanks

I dunno if this helps, but I have an iPod Touch, and I dig all the features it has and that it basically combines my iPod/music player with a game machine (and many of the games are cheap and fun) I'm personally looking to go to a prepaid cellphone after my current contract expires, since I don't use my cellphone much except for emergencies, but I wouldn't mind having a phone that could do all the stuff my iPT does.
 
If you want all of your music with you without having to carry an extra device, get an iPhone, if you don't mind carrying two devices (or putting music on it the old fashioned way), then go with a BlackBerry.
 
Excepting the Storm model, the real choice is whether you need a real keyboard or not.

I won't buy any phone that lack mass storage expansion. MicroSD cards are too cheap to be limited to the factory installed memory.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I have not had the chance to get over to the AT&T store yet to put hands on the iphone yet but have messed with a blackberry curve at Verizon. What is your take on the keyboard for each phone? I have a feeling for business use and sending messages this could be a breaking feature on my decision. Thanks again for the input.
 
As a Blackberry Storm owner, the iPhone as a device destroys the Blackberry. it's easily the best phone around.

But, the email functionality for the Blackberry is it's strongest feature and the iPhone can't really match it as of yet.

So, it's really for you to decide what's more important.

I think that the main use will be reading emails and having short answers back or call backs as a response. I doubt that I would use it to type an extensive email to someone but I would need the capability to atleast type/respond quickly without having to hit "backspace" a bunch because I am hitting the wrong letter by accident.

I guess I should ask how easy it is to use each of the keyboards? i.e. accuracy of key stroke.
 
If you're actually looking at the keyboard, I don't see why there would be a difference. "Real" keyboards best come in handy whenever you're typing with one hand, or not looking at it.

The keystroke is fantastic. I found the Blackberries to be an email device first and everything else second. If you're a business person that relies moderately on email, get a blackberry.

The problem with the Iphone for business use is AT&T. Voicemails disappear for weeks without showing up in the call history of the phone. The volume of phones sold have killed the data throughput in many places. AT&T is an utter disaster and should be avoided at all costs by the business person.

I have been told they are good for email usage but I am going to doing alot of talking/calling on it (for me it is going to be talk first, email second....atleast for now). My brother has a blackberry and whenever I talk with him I can hear EVERYTHING thats going on around him (tv, his girlfriend talking, etc, etc). I told him to turn down the sensitivity of his mic but it did not change much. Is that a common problem with the blackberry's? As I said the text/email typing is not a huge issue but I need a clear voice/calling service without crazy background noise is essential.
 
If you're looking at AT&T, I would also consider the Nokia E71x, which is a very Blackberry like device, but with the Nokia quality and elegance. You can check more out about it at GSMArena, and also compare it to other handsets.

The E71x is AT&T branded in the US, but other than running S60r2 (as opposed to S60r3), which causes some accessory and software issues for some unauthorized accessory and application issues, it's identical to the E71.
Also, if you don't need an as feature rich phone, the E63 is also an option.
 
with the 3.0 firmware on the iphone the text/email fields now support landscape (Read: bigger keyboard in landscape mode)....i type pretty damn fast on the iphone keyboard and the updated auto-correct in 3.0 makes life much easier. i use yahoo email on my iphone and push works perfectly along with all the other normal pc usability. I have several friends with Blackberrys and the screens are small, the interface isnt nearly as clean or user friendly, i dont like the ban roll-on track ball and the availability of thousands upon thousands of apps puts the iphone over the top. i was skeptical but after having an ipod touch I ended up carrying it with me EVERYWHERE which sucked cause i also had a phone with me. After getting the iPhone I can honestly say I havent seen anything new come on the market which makes me jealous for one second.
 
I have a Blackberry Tour that came out last week for Verizon and I really do love it. Although if I was on AT&T, I'd have gotten an iPhone hands down for the added functionality and shit ton of apps. I'm thinking of getting an iPod Touch just for the apps, and I need a new iPod anyway.
 
the iphone keyboard can be frustrating... but the iphone is far and away the best phone ive ever owned.

the only blackberry experience i have is with the pearl, my brother, sister and a friend have one and it just doesnt hold up compared to the iphone.
 
you want email and the easiest keyboard, just get the Blackberry Bold and end this thread. There's not another phone that is going to perform better for you for what you have expressed you wanna do.
 
You should also take G1 or any phone that will support Android into consideration. It has a QWERTZ keyboard and a touch screen. There are tons of apps as well. I only heard good things from my friend who used iphone and blackberry before.

A keyboard/email is second to what I need. Voice/Call quality is by and far number one.

I have read and spoke with a few people about Blackberry's voice quality and they all seem to describe it as ok. They seem to describe that, as you said, the email/keyboard is great and by far the shining point of the phone but thats really the only thing superior. All other areas it is lacking which worries me.
 
^It's not "lacking" in the other areas, it's just that the iPhone is so damn good.

If you want call quality though, switch Verizon, the service is so much better.

It seems like you've already made up your mind, so you might as well just go buy your iPhone.
 
I have a Blackberry Curve and I love it. If you're looking at Verizon though, I'd get the Tour over the Curve. I'll be upgrading my phone to that model soon.
 
I was with verizon and switched to att for the iphone. There is maybe a week learning curve for the touch screen. There are options for email which can rival the BB. You can sync all your contacts,etc via itunes or for the more business savvy you can do the exchange service and outlook goes to your iphone. Ive used blackberries before and their learning curve is longer. SO yeah the email may be "slightly" better on the BB but the iphone email works great, as does the keyboard. The internet functions and all the apps kick BB butt. My friend has a Storm and I have a 3GS we have contests on 3G speed and the iphone wins hands down and usually goes to full html regular sites with the BB opting for the mobile version on several comparisons. I have had no "bad reception" or "bad att service" either. They are just as good as verison in my book. Just check the att site for 3G service in your location or areas you may travel too and see if youll have 3G coverage. Dud get the iphone. Its got two sides to it-it can perform business functions but it can also be a hell of a lot of fun which the BB cant.
 
I'd go Blackberry personally because I want a physical keyboard (I'm an iPhone owner)... but the iPhone does have some cool apps and the ipod functionality is actually really really good, I was never interested in the iPod Touch but I love the iPod functionality way more than my old iPod Video. I thought I'd always prefer the wheel, but the iPod software on the Touch/iPhone is really a huge improvement.


Anyway... yeah... if you want a keyboard & like music, go Blackberry + iPod Touch. Otherwise, if you don't plan to type a lot, just go iPhone. One huge concern.. you mention call/voice quality... iPhone's is crap.
