CAGiversary!

This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it was getting very close to the 5,000 thread mark, I figured it was time for a reset.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Apple Game Center
Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games are starting to support this. Currently this only runs on iPod & iPhone, but an update will be coming soon that enables this for iPad users.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center exchange thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs. You can also exchange OpenFeint & Plus+ names there.

Important Notes:

 1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
 2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
 3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
 4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
 5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
 6. Apps can be re-downloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
 7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
 8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
 9. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.
 10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.
Don't know if I should buy SSFIV, considering that I'll be picking up SSFIV for 3DS next month. Does the game control like the SF2 port for iPhone? because I thought that played awful.
I bought it today and it is sweet........ controls are good, graphics and voiceovers are insane....... 99 cents is a steal

Controls for SF2 sucked but SFIV controls are great. You only get a punch, kick, special and fierce buttons but it works. For .99 cents you will not regret it.
Picked up Phoenix Wright and SFIV. Thinking about getting a NFS game too, but which one is the best?
hot pursuit by far

a .99 cent game vs. a $40 game. You're comparing and choosing one over the other?
Oh man, thats looks so awesome. I quite enjoyed it for the xbox 360, but not at a $49 price tag. $5 seems ok for a mobile version.:bouncy:
Keep an eye on "EA Flash deals" on Facebook. I just bought NBA Jam for Xbox 360 using one of their flash deals codes for $21.

The $40 game is an almost perfect port of a console game, while the $1 is far from it.

I'm not comparing nor choosing one over the other. I just wanted to make sure that, even for a buck, the game controls decently.

SF4 for iphone is an okay time waster.

Don't take it as a legitimate way to play the game though. Just a simple game with street fighter characters in it.

Chop Chop Tennis has dropped to FREE for a limited time (http://itunes.apple.com/app/chop-chop-tennis/id368749678?mt=8).
"The creators of Chop Chop Ninja and Chop Chop Runner are back with Chop Chop Tennis : The only ninja-approved tennis game available!
Chop Chop Tennis is a unique action tennis game. You hit the ball by simply flicking your finger on the screen. Chop Chop Tennis is certainly the most frantic, intuitive and enjoyable tennis game ever created for iPhone/iPod Touch!"

iPhone ports are only good if you have lower standards. That's my opinion at least.

They are so dirt cheap because that's what they are, dirt cheap console game rip-offs. But if you are ok spending time and money with games of that quality, it's ok I guess.

lmao, are you purposefully mocking him (based on him saying almost the exact same thing about Gameloft games earlier) or was that on accident? Funny either way ;)

Thanks to whoever posted; picked up Phoenix Wright and SF4. Been eyeing Phoenix Wright forever (pre iphone), and SF4 translated pretty well on iphone (obviously not comparable to console/arcade version, but a good time waster in its own right).

On the fence on Devil May Cry and Shadow Guardian...probably only going to pick up one of those.

For some reason, I've been a real jerk today and yesterday, and I apologize. Hopefully I'll get this out of my system by tomorrow.

But you were actually right! Keep being a real jerk brothar.
Bought Shadow Guardian HD.
It's fucking terrible. I can't believe people once said this good or even decent.

Never again Gameloft.
From the reviews and gameplay footage on Youtube, it seems (so far) that you can just keep pressing the action button without dying. At least in the platforming parts. Not sure about the shooting parts.

Man, I was tempted by Splatterhouse. I loved it on TG-16. But reviews (well-written, even) point to control issues. And it being a Namco iPhone game, that's no surprise. Guess I'll pass. If I really fiend for the original Splatterhouse, I'll just crack the seal on the new 360 game -- as I hear the 3 original games are included.

Run Like Hell threw me for a loop. That was the name of a PS2 survival horror game. No relation, obviously.

Uhhh...how? Lol...share please? Haha, glad to know it's still in the works.
Has anyone played SFIV or Phoenix Wright on an iPad? Are they still worth it?
Street Fighter 4 works good, I have hit the zoom button on accident a couple times which was annoying, other than that it's fun, controls work good, and worth a buck, I haven't tried multiplayer but I can't wait to try.

I think I'm going to get Phoenix Wright also because all of the great reviews 34 out of 38 say 5 stars. I think its worth a $.99 blind buy.

EDIT: got it, it works fine on the iPad seems like a good game if you enjoy reading, I might be playing this one more on my iPod while at work or on the pooper.

Has anyone tried KB Loco? It's based on some cartoon. It's similar to Catapult Madness and it's free. It's really fun for what it is.

Anyone on the fence on Phoenix Wright should get it. I heard it was a DS port and I loved the DS version but this is a much better deal.

Could I get people to add me in Game Center, eliter1, I updated to 4.2.1 and all of my friends got erased. I really like beating people on the leaderboards.

Fors the record: if you haven't played PHoenix Wright, it's AMAZING. I've played 3 on the DS and they're great. basically straightforward mystery interactive novels/adventure games, but such great dialogue and characters.

Man they did a great job with NBA Jam I thought the controls would sucks but man they work lol we all know it will be a 99 cent game soon but a for sure must buy

..I just gotta say, I don't post much in this thread...but I check it everyday for the daily free apps since I got an Ipod for xmas! Thanks for keeping it so active and updated...I haven't bought a game yet. That 'Cat Physics' game kept me occupied for HOURS! ;)

oh ViolentLee, which dq game is your avatar from? I'm having trouble recognizing it...

Splatterhouse is not so bad playing it on my iPad but I couldn't see my self playing on the iPhone or iPod the size of the screen would be way tiny. The controls are not that bad game is playable.

As for Run Like Hell, it's no Mad Chad but it is a decent running game kind of like I Must Run! and Mirrors Edge a little. I do remember the RLH in your link and I thought the same thing when got the first one for iOS. Sorry if I got your hopes up for that.
Dead Rising is on sale for .99
I was expecting "dual stick" controls like most games of this nature but there's just one vpad and the control changes on you. If you're walking around it's sort of tank style with the camera behind you (ie down=backpedal Resident Evil 4 style) and when you start attacking it switches to more of a free roaming style where the camera rotates and follows you (ie down=walking towards the camera) definitely took some getting used to. I had it glitch once where the camera was stuck in a spot following me and the controls were stuck in tank style. (ie original RE style)

I'm just waiting for the day Sir Daniel creates the portable PS3 w/ screen and solar panel so we can all play the best games available and not have to suffer through this utter crap that Apple puts out when we're not at home. I think Spiderman Total Mayhem is THE WORST spiderman game ever... even worse than the Xbox and PS2 spiderman games! I mean seriously? There are more jaggies and clipping and floating physics than any other console spiderman game. *end of sarcasm* Sorry, I had to get that out of my system. I seriously don't understand why Sir Daniel even bothers with the app games since it seems NOTHING will meet his standards when compared to console games. And it's funny the double standard he has for the games he listed as top ten and the games he criticizes when technically they all can fall under the same criticisms. :whistle2:k But I'm not going to go into that since my sig would tell you why.

In the meantime, I am enjoying the heck out of SFIV! :) I enjoy it more than my SSFIV on PS3 sadly. Dimsdale is right about the bluetooth vs mode, it's pretty sweet and quick. Although it didn't seem like there was an option to use wifi, when I started vs with my friend, the game told me to turn off wifi and make sure nothing else was on except for bluetooth.

I'm just mad that my iPhone's touchscreen dpad isn't as good and accurate as my mad catz stick and the buttons don't bounce back as quick. And I'm so annoyed at how the anti-aliasing isn't as good on the iPhone as SSFIV is on my PS3 on my 46" LED tv. And also how the voice acting is horrible and grainy and music is rather tingy compared to my PS3 SSFIV pumping through my home theater. ok REALLY end of sarcasm now. Oh yeh, and being CAG's I wouldn't buy a $100 iTunes giftcard until it's AT LEAST $70 or less, since only a few months ago many of us got the $50 gc from Walmart for only $30. :nottalking: ;)
