CAGiversary!

This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it was getting very close to the 5,000 thread mark, I figured it was time for a reset.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Apple Game Center
Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games are starting to support this. Currently this only runs on iPod & iPhone, but an update will be coming soon that enables this for iPad users.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center exchange thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs. You can also exchange OpenFeint & Plus+ names there.

Important Notes:

 1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
 2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
 3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
 4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
 5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
 6. Apps can be re-downloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
 7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
 8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
 9. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.
 10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.
It was a one day sale for yesterday only, and it was stated as such. Why are you pissed off at them for telling the truth? Nobody thought it would ever drop below $5. You should have jumped on it during the CLEARLY STATED sale period.

I'm considering Galaga Remix for 99 cents. Anyone tried it?
Look when I wrote the comment boy genius. It was at around 10pm PST, now correct me if I'm wrong but 10pm is 2hrs before midnight so I still should of got it for $.99...

No need to be a fucking prick.
What's different about them?

I'm highly tempted by this one (for iphone). My fiance and I both own iphones and could see breaking this out when we both have time to kill with the bluetooth connectivity.
That was a Matrix joke, sorry lol. I have no idea how good the actual game is.

The songlist of Rock Band Reloaded looks great.
The main differences between it and the first iPhone game are:
- An ability to play in "landscape" style -- aka the sideways way. That makes the screen wider.
- Vocal recognition, so you can actually sing the vocal parts instead of tapping them.

It's been on my wishlist for a while, and I snatched it up as soon as I got the update from appshopper. (It's down to $2.99 from $4.99 if you haven't seen)

Thank you for the reality check-- clearly I need a coffee break

Oh awesome. I tried the demo of the old one out and couldn't stand portrait mode.

I saw it in Appshopper as well. I'll probably end up getting it at $3

You know it's Midnight or later in other time zones right? Sounds like you're taking this to heart a little too much.

Seems like it's you being the "fucking prick"

Rock Band Reloaded for $3?! That's low enough for this CAG. I loves me some thumb drumming on the go! Downloading now. . .

And, because CAVE refuses to respond to my psychic pleas to drop the price on Espgaluda II for one day, I'm going to placate my SHMUPing with Aerial Assault while it's on sale for .99 (http://itunes.apple.com/app/aerial-assault/id415423857?mt=8).
"In 2012, the doomsday with earthquake and tsunami which people used to imagine is not coming. In Nov.
You know I would like to see Choplifter on the iPhone, I loved playing that in the arcade.
I love your hidden sig. Cracks me up every time I watch it. Hunter Spiders (I think that's what that one is) are effin HUGE. I would've freaked out if I were him too lol.

Thanks, if I was that guy I just would have hit it with a lighter and an aerosol can or a gun.

It was $4.99 when I went to buy it last night at 11:00 PM Eastern. I too am a little disappointed it wasn't a 24 hour sale. At least run it until midnight.

I would buy so many ipod touch games if it had buttons.

I think I'm finally over buying games for this thing until that happens. So sick of touch only controls on games.
You know I would like to see Choplifter on the iPhone, I loved playing that in the arcade.
It's not the same obviously, but you may want to check out Chopper 2 I believe it is. It is similar to the original Choplifter games, but updated quite a bit to meet modern gaming standards. So unless you are wanting the original (which I don't blame you, fun game!), may check Chopper 2 to tide you over for now. Not on sale at the moment though, but was a few months ago. Hopefully it will cycle back around. $3 atm

10 PM PST is 1 AM EST, thus why the sale was over. I'll agree, though - they should have had it run through midnight PST in the US. I'll concede to being an East Coast Centric fucking prick. ;)

Dungeon Raid is not yet on sale, but it's up for vote in the OpenFeint Game Channel app - if it gets to 1000 votes it will go on sale for 99 cents for a week. They are up to something like 812 votes at the moment. So, download the OpenFeint Game Channel and vote for it if you're interested! I sure am, so do it for me even if you aren't interested. :)

Voted. And I'm interested in it going on sale, too. Thanks for the heads up!

I lol'd

That's still bs though.

For the cooks out there, How to Cook Everything is on sale for 24 hours for $7.99. I paid 9.99 for it a few weeks back and it's very solid.
Dungeon raid is a buck now
Yep, that was a nice surprise. Just got home from work and checked the OpenFeint app. Saw that the requisite 1,000 votes were cast. Easy! I'm looking forward to some Dungeon Raiding after my workout tonight. . .

I got it. I love Puzzle Quest, so I figured I'll like this too even though it looks like it was made purely using programmer art (aka ugly art ;) ).

I've had the book for many years now, it's a classic. The recipes are great as basic standards and the list is quite comprehensive.

Is there a way to purchase an app without downloading it when you're away from itunes?

I told my GF that 7th Guest was on sale the other day, and she couldn't download it because she was at work (no wifi or itunes). By the time she was off work it had already gone back up in price. The same thing happened to me with another game sometime ago. It's kind of annoying, of course I could just not know how to do it.

It updates new recipes every 10 days or so. I'd say there are about 2000 or so recipes total. It's really good stuff.

interesting, didnt realize you could gift it to yourself. is this the only way? im just curious if theres another way, that seems like it'll work just fine.

If you have itunes credit on your account, I'm 99% sure it doesn't use it - it uses your credit card on file.

as it happens i have credit left over from xmas, but generally thats not a problem. especially if the sale is good enough.
The centipede one looks good but no classic version included. I'm thinking about that atari football though.
Thanks for quoting somebody's review and the 2 year old football game the week after the super bowl.

Holycrap, Dungeon Raid is addictive. Definitely one of the better .99 deals I've gotten lately. Must resist urge for "one last game" (again). Must. Get. Sleep. Ahh, who am I kidding? The wife is out of town and I'm already in bed. Back to the Dungeon!
Depends how well you do on touch screen games, the game itself if great and I would easily buy it on PSN. The touch screen is really easy to misjudge moves on especially when you have to swipe down to make the move go faster which is the the idea and I was often missing or making incorrect moves because of the touchscreen which was fucking up my game.
Nope..I suck at that sort of stuff. I'd list off the games that had that sort of movement of swiping but I've already deleted them. ;) Or maybe I'm just not used to it yet.
Dungeon Raid is amazing! I recommend this game to any puzzle/rpg fan!
oh man, I'm really tempted now to make my first actual purchase....

Centipede Ultra is very well done. Good controls, fun gameplay, good graphics. There are a lot of new enemies which keeps the game fresh. Difficulty ramps up at a good pace.

It does not contain the classic Centipede arcade version, but I never felt that I was missing out. This is exactly what I would want from a Centipede game.

Missile Command Ultra is also very well done. Controls are perfect (you tap where you want, and it automatically fires from the nearest silo). Graphics are good, and difficulty ramps up well.

It does not contain the arcade version. It seems to lack ever so slight polish compared to Centipede Ultra, but otherwise is a perfect mobile Missile Command.

The "more games" button hints that Super Breakout Ultra is coming soon (it's not in the store now).
I just bought the Dungeon Raid game for $.99 and it keeps crashing. Is there anyway I can fix this or do I have to wait for an update?
Try rebooting your iDevice. That usually fixes problems with crashing if it's a new application/update.

Oops, did I make it that obvious? What is super bowl? Haha!!
