"If Iran continues its program to develop nuclear weapons, we will attack it," Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz told Yediot Ahronot, Israel's largest mass-circulation daily. "The window of opportunity has closed. The sanctions are not effective. There will be no alternative but to attack Iran in order to stop the Iranian nuclear program."

Now, this appears to be more elbowing for the best present editorial position. A couple minutes later, Ahmadinejad probably expressed how he wants to wipe Israel off the map for the umpteenth time.

Also note that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is incredibly unpopular amongst the people of Israel. His approval rating was last recorded at being 3-percent. So, I doubt he'll take any action against Iran in the near future.

However, Neoconservative political analyst, Daniel Pipes suggests if Barack Obama beats John McCain that George W. Bush will go to war with Iran in an attempt to ruin Obama.

And while I don't have a source, I instinctually remember it being reported that George W. Bush said he will deal with Iran before he leaves.

So, the question remains, and considering just how much the suspense affects gas prices: will the U.S. deal with Iran? If it does, how will it affect us? What do you want to see happen?

Well we can't attack Iran, we don't have the manpower to do it. Attacking Iran at this point would be 10x the mistake of attacking Iraq in 2003. The country wouldn't support it and I doubt Congress would give the authorization at this point. The only way to be able to attack Iran is if something terrible happened and it could be connected to Iran.

We can't attack and INVADE Iran given the current state of our armed forces but there is certainly nothing keeping us from launching a few airstrikes or SCUD missles Irans way should we be forced to do so in a hurry.

But I agree that something really big would have to happen for Bush to get approval for a military strike on Iran given our other current problems. Maybe we will launch a large airstrike in Iraq and the planes GPS devices will "malfunction" and they will accidentally release their bombs in Iran.;)

The Israelis are sabre rattling because Olmert is in trouble. Iran is sabre rattling because the Americans are in trouble (in Iraq). It wouldn't be interesting in the least (aside from the fact that world leaders treat each other like assholes) if it weren't for the crazy ass American leadership still in charge here.

Which really goes to show you how out there we really are right now, even if only in perception. How weird is that that we're the certified crazy in the room, huh?

Rumors have been gurgling for a while now about covert support of the disillusioned youth in Iran and extremist movements that are pro-american. It's really anyone's guess just how far along these are, and how much of an impact they would play in a surgical strike of known nucular facilities.

Anyway, if we do attack another middle-eastern country, I only hope we actually get some oil relief this time.

;);););)

We actually have the manpower, but our military is set up so badly we can't use them. We keep sending back the same 500,000 soldiers when we have an army of 2.6-2.7 million.
