Iranians Eat World Record Sandwich Before It's Measured
Something to keep in mind when you are trying to break a food world record: Get the Guinness people there before the hungry people.
They did not take this approach recently in Iran, where a bid to create the world's longest sandwich may have been stymied by overanxious eaters. The 1,500-meter-long hoagie -- filed with over three tons of mixed ostrich meat and chicken -- was set up in a Tehran park. While measurements were being taken by three Guinness staffers, a crowd of people descended on the sandwich, devouring the mammoth food structure before it could be certified.
The event's organizers say video footage of the event will be sent to the Guinness officials. "We still think the sandwich will be recorded in the Guinness book because of all the evidence and footage that we will send them," organizer Parvin Shariati said.
It's rumored that Bush administration officials are already requesting further evidence than simply the video to make sure the Iranian sandwich program is on the up and up.
