Ok, I have credit to burn at GameRush and I was wondering if the Wii was worth it for the VC games? I know I would play Wii Sports and a few other games, but just curious how the VC games are. I know there is a LONg thread here about them, just wanted to see other opinions.

see that is a personal choice.. I have a NES and N64..so me playing those games on the Wii is not crucial.. and I also think that they over priced the games.. although the addition of the other systems do intrigue me.. to me getting a Wii is all about Mario Galaxy, Zelda, and some of the other first party titles or exclusives..
 
I'd say it's worth it for those rare games, like any Turbographix-16 releases and those hard-to-come-by first-party titles.

Genesis games, not so much.
 
It's not worth it yet. So far, there are only a handful of games and they're not very spectacular. I thought they would have more titles offered at launch other than Ecco the Dolphin and Golden Axe, and Mario 64.

I hope they aren't using this first salvo as a test market. Nobody wants to buy the crap that has already come out on every sega compilation ever made again. Hopefully thy'll start soliciting suggestions for new VC releases so we can get good offerings. There are hundreds of NES and Genesis games and it's beyond me why only 1 or 2 "A" list titles have been released so far.
 
Now, and especially when the games start flowing, it'll be wonderful having everything on one box. My life will be in flux for the next 2 or 3 years (moving every year, school, etc.) so I'm looking forward to just leaving all my old consoles in boxes at my Mom's house and not burdening my wife with all of them until we're finally settled. ;) But it's nice to be able to play some of the old games without having to haul those systems around.

That being said, I wish there was someway to be allowed to use the VC games that you already own in cart format for free. Of course, that won't happen, but I wasn't thrilled about paying $8 for Sonic the Hedgehog. I did it, and played it, and loved it, but I wasn't thrilled about the price.

I picked up a points card for $5 off from Circuit City so that took some sting out of it. I think find sales on the cards is going to be the way to go.
 
I think it's totally worth it. I just bought mario 64 last night for 10 bucks and if you can even find it at a used game shop it's anywhere from 15 to 25 for the cart. So, it's not a damn bad deal. There are games I won't need because I have an snes and n64 and an nes...however some of the games that are available or will be available we don't own.

Here's a cool thing too. If they put out contra or mario kart(any of them) and include online multiplayer that would rule earth!

By the way too, the n64 games look good, not as jaggy as they are on the actual n64 system.

VC will own if they ever bust out titles like Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, MUSHA, Paper Mario 64, etc. Until then, for me at least, it's not worth the VC alone.
 
Good luck finding one in a GameRush any time soon. They're obviously pretty low on Nintendo's distro list. From what I understand, out of all of the stores in my area, only two got Wii's and accessories in on launch day -- two consoles and two controller sets per store. The one manager said he's been told not to expect any until sometime in January at the soonest.

Anyway, the VC screams potential. I just hope it really gets utilized to its fullest and that other 3rd parties sign on to get their old games posted. In a year's time, it could be a total system seller.

Although I do like the other games you listed, MUSHA fucking owns. Do it Nintendo, do it.

Well, if it's your only new console for the next year, at least, it'd better be! (Buh-dum!)

Let me just add that if you have a PS2, there is no reason to get any of the Genesis games currently available. The very recently-released Genesis compilation disc is $20 and has over two dozen games.

If it's a first-party Nintendo game that you haven't played yet, then yes, I think these prices are fair. You won't be getting a 'value-priced' Nintendo 'best-of' disc anytime soon, if ever.

Thanks, I know only a few stores here in MI got Wii's or PS3's. I'll keep looking though, no hurry. I already have a 360.

Supposedly they have been restocked at LEAST once (for Wii's at least). Maybe I'll get lucky.

Also, I haven't played NES in years...never had a SNES and I have a Genesis somewhere, never a TG16.

...plus, if they release unique games that were never before seen and only vc downloadable, then it could be really worth it...

i would have loved to have seen an achievement system similar to the 360 though....then i would download stuff like Super Mario 64 that i have already beaten back in the day on the original system it was on.....achievements would have given me the motivation to replay some of these games, but without that motivation, i just don't want to re-beat something....
 
I think for certain games its worth it. Something like Sonic isn't really a smart choice because you can get the whole collection for $15 or $20. I have the Zelda Collector's disc as well. I want to grab Mario 64 but I've held off since I have the DS version. Personally I think where it works is with games that are replayable forever...stuff like Starfox 64.

Speaking of uniue, does anybody think there's a chance they might release Japanese games to the US on VC? Or would laws prohibit that, blah blah blah? I am so freakin jealous the Japanese get Picross on SNES...

The overwhelming majority of NES games haven't really aged well, unfortunately. I'm looking forward to a revamped Wii version of Duck Hunt, though. :)

For me, the VC is going to be aces for a lot of the 16-bit era RPGs I missed out on, and even some that I got to play when I was a mush-brained kid. And I'm *still* holding out hope for some classic point-n-click games and some new original titles to appear at some point.
 
Meh, between my large retro collection and compilation discs, I don't see myself using the VC hardly at all unless they add online multiplayer or something. I love my Wii, though.
 
Probably not as old consoles and games (rare stuff excluded) are super cheap, while the Wii is $250 and the VC downloads are $5-10.
 
Ya if you want it just for VC games...no way. If you also are interested in Mario, Zelda, Metroid...then yes.
