Is DJ Max Portable really this hard?

So, I recently downloaded a demo for DJ Max Portable 2, a game I've considered importing.

And I simply cannot beat it. I've tried probably 30 times and cannot beat the song. Is this the normal difficulty of the game?

For reference, I got the demo here. Also, I don't just suck at rythm games in general. I've beat both Ouendans on Insane and I can do some of Oni in Taiko no Tatsujin. Maybe I just suck at this game?

I got the first DJ Max Portable a few months ago and I love it. It does seem pretty impossible when you start, but just stick with the easy songs in the 4-button mode and eventually you'll start working your way up. It took me a few weeks to play the 6-button mode with confidence, and even after months of playing regularly, most 8-button songs are too tough. But don't be discouraged by the demo. The original is my favorite PSP game by far. (I'm planning on getting the sequel soon.)

Alright. So that demo song (It has five different sections, uses six buttons since -> and square share the middle section) is a harder song? I didn't want to buy the game and find that that's the level you start out on. I find the other rythm games I've played (Like Ouendan and Taiko) start you out obscenely easy. It looks like a game I'd be interested in if it isn't as hard as the demo makes it seem. :p

Thanks for the reply.

I noticed this too when playing. I can get about halfway through the song then I fail it. and I'm not bad at rhythm games, but this does seem pretty difficult.

Yeah, this demo is fuckin' awful because it's a horrible indication of what to expect. The game does not need to be anywhere near this hard when you play it. There's a 4 button mode, and the learning curve is actually pretty gradual. It does get really difficult as you hit harder songs on 6 button mode, but it's not necessarily as impossible as this demo would indicate...

that's reassuring because I was also thinking of importing the game. and to think, I was just going to own up and accept getting raped on every song.

Good to hear, thanks. I'll probably watch and try and pick this up the next time Play Asia has some kind of sale. Same with Taiko Portable 2.

My first impressions were from the demo, and they were not good since I would fail immediately after the song speeds up. But for some reason I tried it again a month later, and slowly got farther and farther into the song, until I could beat it. Still haven't played the full game, but may pick it up someday.
