is it just me or does everyday we wake up seem worse than before?

No. This is not some sort of depression post about me finding my life worse everysingle day. I'm talking about the world around us and just the way things are going in general. Being an American I can't help but wonder what the hell is going to happen to all of us. Here in the land of the free you can't say anything anymore without getting attacked by some bafoon who can only spew out whatever the official talking points of the opposition is.

Global warming for one, its been so muddled with bullshit funded science that people can't see that while they are arguing, our environment is dieng at an alarming rate. It seems like there is no truth anymore.

Has anyone else noticed that I think has been replaced with I believe? everytime I hear a politician talk it;s "I believe".. can someone who believes something to be true but in actually be false, be held accountable?

I'm frusterated because I don't see anything ever addressed, its like our politicians are knowingly letting american go down the drain. The greatest country in the world and the most coincidental. I say coincidental because the biggest disasters are the only ones to have all these coincidental shit happen all at the same time, and its always so logic defying, yet accepted. 9/11... please don't get me started, JFk and his magic bullet of gravity defiance. I find it ironic that loved presidents, maybe doing something right for the people, are the ones that are killed and not the ones with disasterous approval ratings..

There is no real point to this post except to say that everything seems to be based on lies, if someone points out the obvious, they are crucified. The republican nominee Ron paul is going to be removed from republican debates because he said one of the reasons we were attacked was because we been bombing them, creating resentment for so many years, which is true. isn't this the fucking land of the free? in both debates this guy had the most approval but their going to remove him?

I feel that people are getting stupid or are just purposely keeping themselves in the dark. I'm tired of the "support our troops" line also, I mean comeon how stupid do you need to be not to be able to seperate getting out of a war that we everyone was lied to about!! "ohh but congress voted on it to, they had the same information".... if im the one cherry picking the info and I present only what I want you to see, of course your gonna think its neccessary and agree to it. How can be so short sighted now adays? I mean comeon, virgin airlines takes loose change down because it shows a different point of view and a bunch of rightwing radicals have it taken down, where were they when abc aired the fictional side of 9/11 blaming it on the clinton administration? LOL and they say.. we havent been struck since 9/11 so we are keeping you safe!...

The biggest even in our lives occured on their watch and we are supposed to be grateful that they fucked up on 9/11 and haven't fucked up since? comeon sense...

To top it off all the bees are dying.. thanks for putting up with this rant.. the world is frusterating.

Violent crime has gone down. Technology has gone up, leading to longer and more enjoyable life. But yeah, I agree with a lot of your post. A lot of things are depressing. But don't worry, when we die our kids will deal with it.
It's funny you bring up the bee hive issue. I was reading up on it on Wikipedia. It sounds very strange and perplexing. If they can't end the war in Iraq, please, please save the fucking bees.

I agree.

I disagree with almost every move the government has made over the past 6 or so years. It doesn't help to complain about it though and the best any of us can do is to get a proper education and hope we are in a position to make a difference in the future.

I wouldn't worry about the bees - that story is just viral advertising for Halo 3.

Well I saw some hives with the Halo 3 insigna on them, but the police thought they were bombs so the bomb squads blew them up.

no, im not talking about the bees of halo 3. 1/3 of the countrys bees have died since november 2006. they are found with major autoimmune issues (the ones that stick around) but for the most part the bees in hives disappear.

didnt einstein say once the bees were gone humanity had 4 years?

I am pretty sure i read violent crime has gone up

I know Einstein said once the bees go the humanity will soon follow, Idk if he put a time frame on it though.

Well there's no meglaomangiac dictator causing a world war and systematically trying to exterminate an entire race. There is (virtually) no slavery in the world. The life expectancy of humans continues to go up year after year as more medical breakthroughs emerge. There is no bubonic plague sweeping the world, killing a third of the world's population. Things could and have been worse. Human civilization will always endure in some form or another for better or worse.
I am pretty sure i read violent crime has gone up
I've heard conflicting things, but from the Bureau of Justice:
"Since 1994, violent crime rates have declined, reaching the lowest level ever recorded in 2005."
"The violent crime rate increased 1.3% from 2004 to 2005. From 1996 to 2005 the rate fell 26.3%."
So while that's showing there was a tiny increase a few years ago, it's overall improved broadly speaking.

I feel it probably depends how people categorize violent crime, statistics are some of the most subjective things in scientific research/politics

That may be true, but I also think it'd be fair to say the media tries to make it out worse than it actually is.

As far as statistics and subjectivity, it's not true. UCR reports show substantial declines in crime rates (not just violent, but property as well, while drug crimes are somewhat stable).

The media, however, will eat up any crime fear. See another of Joel Best's books, "Random Violence."

I'm waiting for the day when I think EVERYTHING is going good and then wam... out of no where.

You're sure they weren't Aqua Teen Hunger Force ads?
There is (virtually) no slavery in the world.
Although I agree with the gist of your post (things really are a lot better than they are made out to be, and certainly a lot better than "the good old days"), this one if flat out inaccurate. Think of the over 1 billion people just in China, for instance, who are slaves to the Chinese state. Not to mention North Koreans, Cubans, etc.

I made up the Halo 3 Beehives to parody the Aqua Teen Hunger Force marketing.

I meant slavery in the literal sense as in legal ownership of another human being. My point essentially is that does anyone seriously think that things are "so bad" that they wish they lived in another time period than now? If you look at human history, the world is living in relative peace right now.

Pretty much true, although war between nations has largely been replaced with non-state actors such as terrorists. But given our level of technological and cultural advancement, I'd also ask if anyone seriously would like to return to the bad old days.

As for slavery, it still exists, just not in the spotlight. See here: http://www.state.gov/g/tip/rls/tiprpt/2006/

"If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man."

I'm glad someone understood what I was saying.

It's a known fact that 11% of posters will misinterpret a joke as fact.

I'm hoping technology has increased enough to prove Einstein wrong. :/

It can't be all bad though right? I mean we've still got Radiohead, Guitar Hero and Jessica Alba so something is right with the world.
I'm hoping technology has increased enough to prove Einstein wrong. :/
The only bad thing about this is that is friggin' Einstein that said this. I have hardly seen any bees this year and we usually have a lot.

I wouldn't say every day is worse, its just that we hear about the troubles in the world more. The media and the global community makes it a lot easier to get news.

To those who think we live in such horrible times let me ask this. In which period in human history would you rather live?

Whichever one Captain Picard is in!
Who the fuck thinks that Einstein was a qualified entomologist just because he was fucking Einstein?
Einstein fanboys? ;)

Einstein was one of the most brilliant minds that ever lived with an intimate understanding of how the world works arguably more so than anyone else in human history. Disregard his insights at your own peril (yes I am an Einstein fanboy).

Thats just as bad. You have more people living longer having more kids with better survival rates and even longer life spans. Further more, as more nations modernize, they'll begin to consume more and more resources. Our planet is finite. It can't handle 9 billion people living 150 years. You could argue it can't handle us now. There are massive smog clouds from CHINA polluting CALIFORNIA.

I'd say human civilization enduring in any form is for the worse.

I'd hardly call what we get 'news'. We're being fed information under the guise of keeping us informed but is actually just there to make us feel constantly threatened and ever fearful and utterly powerless. That, or we're barraged with completely vile tripe about what celebrity showed the world their cooch or jumped on a couch. It's all just a smokescreen to keep us from caring about whats really going on and hold those in office accountable.

ever notice how all this conversation has always happened throughout history, all the time.

RELAX PEOPLE, it's not worse than before, it's just different.

Not really... I was too busy not talking to my neighbors throughout history and all time.

I have more faith in humanity than you do I guess. Personally, I'll take a little smog over the bubonic plague or a world war or government sanctioned slavery any day.

Oh, I see, you're one of THOSE people. Do us all a favor and stop using electricity and modern technology. After all, you're just contributing to the problem. In fact, I'd wager you have more than one thing made in China in your possession, and I'd also wager that if you drive a car it isn't solar-powered. Time to move to a shack in Saskatchewan with no contact with the outside world (and no elecricity, indoor plumbing, etc.).

Jesus freaking-ass christ. After reading the OP I think we need to have a seperate forum for the "Coming-of-age-crybaby" crowd here at CAG who have no sense of historical perspective.

Me too, then we can kill off the damn bees.

I mean, shit, they buzz buzz all over with their big ol' Rape Stinger right there.

Muthafuckin bees scare the shit out of me.
