i just finally started playing it yesterday, and ive died like a thousand times already, and im only on the fifth mission.....help

Hm - I found it had a steeper learning curve than say, Halo or Burnout 3. But I got the hang of it after about an hour or so (I still died a lot - so maybe thats normal)

I found the gameplay to be annoying. Once I got the shotgun, I found no reason to go back to the pistols, and thus all style and fun was eliminated.

Isn't there an option to play it on easy? I think that's what I did, because I don't remember it being that difficult, with the exception of some bosses.

It was hard for me at the begining as well. I had to even play it the first time on the easy setting and even then it was challenging at the start but once I upgraded the weapons and got the combos going...it was not too bad.

Great game!

its mostly just the boss fights take a while to figure out i guess, and the fact that you lose a lot of life any time you get hit by anything

Nope, never had any problem with it. Even with the learning curve or at the beginning. But mind you it's not an easy game but just one that is very challenging. That is one of my favorite games on the PS2.

*SPOILERS*

The boss battle with the giant spider in the one chapel/church place in the castle was pretty difficult though. The raven later on in the game on the ship/pirate ship was super easy also when you face him in the castle grounds before you get the ifrit's.. Also the blob wasn't too bad. Hopefully I didn't spoil anything for anyone.
Didn't seem that hard to me on normal... but I'm only on mission 20-something.
There are like 23 levels or something ;)

But I didn't think it was too hard.

It took me forever just to figure out how to beat the damn spider near the beginning. But that gigantic bird thing seemed really easy. I think it's one of those games where different people get stumped by completely different parts for whatever reason.

I don't remember it being too hard my first time through... but after I beat DMC2 I went back to 1 and died so many times...

I didn't find it that hard...well at the beginning it was hard, but then I started doing really well. Just wait till you get to the harder difficulties like Dante Must Die ;)

It's just you. Seriously, though, I can't really remember if I died a lot. Either way, that was one hell of a fun game.

I usually beat all my Capcom games on easy first, this way I get the hang of the controls and it doesn't piss me off too much so that I stop playing the game.

same here... oh well... here's to hoping DMC3's learning curve wont be as hard.

According to Gameinformer, DMC 3 is harder than Ninja Gaiden

Although I find this somewhat hard to believe (come on its GI) It could easily be true. Capcom already confirmed it upped the difficulty in the US and EU versions of DMC 3..
