Is it me, or is this the lamest trade-in Gamestop has ever done?
I only play one football game, and it's about as old as they get.

What about Tecmo Bowl?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tecmo Bowl came out in '89. This particular game machine came out in 1980.
yea it did, but Tecmo Bowl is still fun. C'mon everyone enjoys Tecmo Bowl.

Expecially since your team always made the headlines of the newspaper

I never felt the need to buy another football game, I still play that thing from time to time when I want my sports gaming fix.

madden is obviously the greatest game ever. nuff said. And I believe theres like 50 million people out there who agree. if you guys dont like sports it doesnt mean the games bad
So I guess you must agree that Titanic is one of the best movies ever? And that killing Jews was one of the best ideas ever. I'm so glad there are free thinkers like you still around, make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Maybe... you do?

For all you Madden haters: Why is it so bad? You've said multiple times how much you hate it but I haven't seen one reason for far as to why it sucks and is so "gay". Oh it sucks because it sells so much? Well that's a bit counter-intuative. I would argue if it's good it sells and if it sells they make more copies.

To expand upon what gamefreak is saying, here's a classic example of what happens to a good sports game that goes bad.

Gameday.

First release of the game was awesome. Blew Madden away. Subsequent releases were a different story however. As people saw Gameday get worse and worse, they stopped buying it. If Madden had the same problem (which most of you Madden haters seem to believe) then it too would have the same fate as Gameday. This is simply not the case.

EDIT: Of course, this is WAY OFF TOPIC.

hey I still play the john madden championship edition, the games for the genesis are essentially the same as the ones today, sure they are a little bit tweaked, but if I find the game fun, I could care less if no one else likes it. It is a fun multiplayer

Before you flame me too much I still play tecmo super bowl for the SNES.

When I do get a madden game for a next gen system, i just wait until the game is a year old and then pick it up cheap, I seldom if ever pick up a NEW madden game.

*shrugs*
Just throwing my two cents in...

I don't dislike the people that play Madden because I hate the game. I dislike those people because they're willing to spend $50 to get what's basically the same game with minor updates. People who are willing to buy the same product twice are morons and need to be removed from our gene pool as quickly as possible.
1. I buy both ESPN Football (and have every year since NFL2K) and Madden every year. I guess that makes me twice as moronic? I'm a huge fan of pro football, playing a game with outdated rosters just isn't the same. One of the high points of the year videogame-wise for me is when pro football season starts and the new football games are out.

2. I prefer Madden's gameplay. Sega will fix a bunch of things with their game every year, while at the same time introducing a whole new set of glitches. Madden 2004 is darn near perfect, I've sunk dozens of hours into that game. I just wish Madden had Sega's presentation, or Sega had Madden's gameplay.

3. Your post is the most self-righteous thing I've read in weeks. Who are you to knock what people like to play? I think Anime is the dumbest shit ever, MTV should be taken off the air, and people who buy the Halo XBox "just because it's cool" are making a stupid financial decision, but I don't go spouting off about it because what other people do with their entertainment time and dollars is *none of my business*.

I can see where you're coming from - as a non-basketball fan, I'm perfectly happy playing NBA Inside Drive 2003 today when I want a basketball game fix - but give us football fans a break.

I wouldn't mind madden so much if, right after the new one came out, we didn't have 30 people coming to trade it in and expecting to get $25 for it while managing to complain to me about it. You'll be lucky to get about $7 at that point, so take it before it goes to $1. or keep it.

Yep, your correct Reality. "But I paid $50 for this!", "Yeah, that wasa year ago, and its scratched to hell with no case or manual."

The sad thing is, we don't penalize for lack of case or manual. Man, I wish we did. That would stop the infulx of rental games and ones that look like they've been used as a teething device.

I work for Gamestop. It's not a bad job , but it's not great either. It'd be leagues better if there was a complete overhaul of corporate policy for both employees and customers, but alas, there will be none.

Reality's Fringe]I wouldn't mind madden so much if said:
That cracks me up. I usually end up giving my "last year" football titles away to broke family members. My brother in law will happily play a 1 or 2 YO Madden, but he MUST own the newest NCAA Football the day it comes out. Which I think is odd, because NCAA doesn't even have the player's names, right?

I should append my earlier post by saying that updated rosters isn't the only reason I run out and buy the newest ESPN and Madden every year. If that was the case, I would just keep updating rosters using an Action Replay, lord knows there are plenty of football sites which offer rosters for old games. Nah, it's a tradition, just one of the things that gets me pumped for football season.
So I was browsing through Gamestop yesterday and I noticed a hand written trade-in sign.

Trade in Madden 2004, receive $12 store credit and get Madden 2005 for $40.29.

First words out of my mouth were "WTF?!" "You've got to be kidding me?!"
What part confused/angered/made you want to throw poop?

Not to mention that each year's edition improves glitches, tweaks, graphics, adds new modes, and gets closer to becoming a more accurate sim. I think most of us understand that sports titles just don't hold value, so any type of trade-in seems okay to me. But I do understand people getting upset about it. When Gamestop only buys it for $7 and then sells it preowned for $40, I feel a little ripped. 30% seems fair to pay for my game eh? I personally want the most updated game myself. I enjoy Madden more than any other games, and it is not silly to buy a new one each year. You might as well call everyone who wants the new Gran Turismo, new DDR, or new GTA moronic as well.

BTW, for the gamestop employee, don't focus too much on things that you can't change, just try to make your customer's experience better. After all, it is just a job. Go there, do what you gotta do, and go back to your real life. It's a good attitude to take to keep from being frustrated by things that you can't change.
