Hi, I would like to buy a PSP for an italian friend...

I know, there is a problem with the charger, but he buys an italian one.
Is it possible to use it? is the PSP compatible with european games?
Does it work well?

how many question...

tks!

The problem is the voltage difference in each country. If there is a difference in the electric sockets between the US and Italy, instead of buying a charger in Italy, you should tell him to get a converter.

A converter is all that's needed, make sure it's a good one and that you have the right voltages or you could fry the system.

As has already been said a US PSP will have no problems working in Europe except for the charging (and UMD's may be region locked, I'm not sure, but who buys them anyway ;))

I have a US PSP and am about to take it back to use in the UK for the second time, I believe in the UK I can just plug it into the sockets there with a simple converter (don't think I need to do anything with the voltages) but I don't know if it's the same in Italy.

This is a misconception. There is no converter needed. Again, you don't need a converter. The AC adapter on PSPs is rated 100-240 v. If you don't believe me, check the sticker on your power brick.

All you need is an adapter so the plug can fit into an outlet.

I have used the PSP in places with 210-240 volts and you only need an adapter to plug the US plug into the Italian socket. Or your friend can use a power supply he buys in Italy if he doesn't want to deal with the adapter.

Games are region-free but UMD movies are not. Something to keep in mind if your Italian friend wants to watch UMD movies.

Yeah, the charger will handle any input voltage from 100V to 240V.

Since the cord that connects from the wall outlet to the charger brick is a separate piece, he only needs to get a local version of said cable, and be good to go. The female end of this cord looks to be a pretty standard shape, you often see the same style of cord for things like electric razors.

As has been said before, PSP games are not region locked, but UMD movies are. Is it possible to flash a US PSP with a European firmware? Would this convert it to be a "native" european unit?

Lastly, something I don't think has been brought up yet, with the different TV-output standards in Europe vs the US, will a US PSP be unable to connect to a Europe TV for TV-output?

I doubt it would work. IIRC, even with CFW and hacks, people still couldn't get their PSP to play out-of-region UMD movies. It probably has a hardware lockout.

I think multi-system TVs are rather popular in Europe. So it is not a major issue.

I don't think the region coding is a hardware thing. I put a CFW on my Japanese PSP and I was able to watch the Family Guy UMD that came with the Daxter pack without a problem.
