Is it really that hard to say "No"?

I've now wasted time with two people off of craigslist who agreed to meetings, told me to meet them, and then backed out.

The first is a lady who was going to sell an Elite, HDMI cable, Kung Fu Panda/Indiana Jones, GTA 4, and disc-only Halo ODST for $200. She originally wanted $300 but I asked if she'd take $200. She said she would. I meet up and she actually tells me to wait. I ask her about 15 minutes later if she's coming and she says, "Where?" She then comes up with some story about how she needs to go home and can't do it until next week blah blah blah. I email her with a different account an hour later and she says, "LOL NO!!!! WHAT R U STUPID? HDMI CABLE COSTS $100!!!!"

The second one is today who agreed to sell her Wii Fit for $40. She tells me to meet her. *At* the time we're supposed to meet she sends me a message, "Sorry sold it."

This is what I was kinda showing hints of in my other morality thread. You get tired of being dicked around so much for no reason that eventually you just wanna start doing "guilty until proven innocent" tactics with these people. Why can't people just say "I don't want to sell at that price" and let it be done?

I still find it funny that people waste 100 dollars on an HDMI cable. Mine was 4 bucks. Still sucks that they make it seem like your all set and then back out. I had it happen to me once and got pissed so now I play games with people on craigslist for the hell of it.

In the case of the Wii Fit, I'm betting that's it but that wasn't the case for the 360 at all. Even still, if you get a better offer, tell the person that as they're already there waiting for you. Maybe they'll do it anyway.

That sucks OP. Unfortunately whenever money is involved, the worst traits of human beings are exposed.
I had it happen to me once and got pissed so now I play games with people on craigslist for the hell of it.
Which is why I roll my eyes whenever someone boasts "Just sell it on craigslist, you'll make more than (whatever option is being discussed)."

Gatta remember that its their stuff to sell .. yeah it stinks when agreement doesnt comes to fruition but the most you can do is curse at them .. gatta know this in life, ppl are cowards and most of them are afraid of challenge, that why the best salesmens in the world are train to hone in onto their cowardice .. whether its a strength, weakness or shame or pride ppl will coward in the face of something thats makes them feel less what they are and usually its just the simple act of speaking the truth

another thing .. they are selling a product cause they need money .. if someone offers more then by all mean they will take their offer over yours .. does it sucks? of course it does but ask yourself this .. if you were selling the same things and someone make the same offer you made then you gotten smart about it and or gotten a better offer would you take that? .. .. .. .. .. I can SEE you rolling your eyes

Someone in her family probably told her that HDMI cables cost like $70 at Best Buy, which is why she replied to your other account talking about it.

Trying to meet women from Craigslist? Pervert.

I can't stand when that happens. I usually get rude with them and say, "I understand you want the best offer, but at least have the decency to inform me before I drive all the way out to meet you. Thanks for wasting my time and I will remember to avoid dealing with you in the future." I have sold to higher bidders, but never once after telling someone when and where to meet me. As far as I'm concerned, once a meeting time and place is set, it's theirs until they don't show up... 15 minutes of waiting and it goes to the next person.

CL breeds no shows like there's no tomorrow. However, through it all, I have still made out and bought and sold at some great deals. You just have to be smart about it all, but CL generally sides with precaution and common sense. Your experiences suck though.

Yeah I like to roll my eyes at whoever says sell on craigslist and save the ebay fees. Craigslist is so great! Personally, I would rather pay the ebay fees and ship the item out and know that I don't have to deal with it again most likely rather than no show after no show on craigslist. Especially with CL you have to meet at a public place or you might get robbed in the future if you keep selling things on CL out of your house. I have seen people here get robbed because they were selling stuff on CL out of their house so that is NOT something I want to get started on. Besides there isn't much of a market for CL here, and you can only sell things at super low prices, if you want the most for your dollar you have to use ebay, even if you pay the fees you will still be netting more than you would on CL.

If your really needing to get rid of something, your better off giving it to a friend or family or donating it or having a yard sale to get rid of the larger items.

Yup, I sell almost everything via eBay and (mostly) amazon.

But craigslist continues to be an enormously valuable resource for fantastic deals, although it goes in cycles and sometimes it's few and far between.

Today, I had to drive 40 miles each way to score a Batman Animated Complete Series boxed set for $40. And I seriously thought the guy was going to flake on me, as he told me to meet him at "11:45". I called him before I hopped on the road to confirm, and he said yes he will be at the location he wanted to meet at. I get there and call him, and he says "I am running a little late, be there in 15 minutes." Then at 12 noon, I call him and leave a voicemail and he texts me back "so sorry 15 more minutes and I will be there."

I thought he was just fucking with me, and sent a reply that I really can't wait around much longer, please hurry if you want to sell it because I will be leaving at the end of those 15 minutes one way or the other.

Well, he made it. And a much more pleasant surprise was, the set was brand new factory sealed. Definitely a great score, considering the cheapest I ever saw it was when amazon was clearancing it out late last year for $8x.xx, and now resellers on ebay are asking $100 up ($200 and up on amazon) for it.

But just a few days ago, some douche whose ads are still up, was listing Xenogears, Final Fantasy 7 8 and 9 for $20 total (after various ads at $25 each, $40 total, $30 total etc failed), all complete black label mint, and responds to my email that he still has them and gives me his address and tells me to stop by.

He never gave me his phone number despite repeated requests for it. I go over there since it's on the way to an appointment I have that night, and it's a fucking apartment building. He never gave me an apartment number or his name to figure out who to dial. I end up dialing all the numbers and the few that answer have no idea what I'm talking about. BASTARD!!! Always always ALWAYS get a phone number. ALWAYS!!!

There are still a lot of pawn shops around here, which is probably stunting the growth of craigslist in my area. For those who want quick cash, the pawn is the ideal place still because they can walk in and walk out with cash and they don't need access to a computer and the internet to do it. The people that need to sell things for quick cash here don't have access to a computer and the internet and those that have access know how to get the most for their item and probably avoid CL.

I've tried a yard sale and stuff does sell, but unless you are pricing most items under $5 (and that $5 item better be something good) you won't sell anything here, so its idea if you have a weekend to spare and a lot of junk to get rid of but other than that avoid it, at least here. A yard sale is not the place to get top dollar for your item or even try, because that will just drive customers away. There are certain things that just don't sell at a yard sale, even if they are priced low low low, like 25 cents and 50 cents or sometimes even lower. You have to try to sell items in quantity at a yard sale to get anything, so selling 5 items for a dollar is better than selling 3 for 25 cents each because at the end of the day those extra pennies you can get from each customer really do count.

I have seen good deals for $20 and up here but those are always the last items to sell if they do sell, now if your having an estate sale you might have some luck with bigger things because here an estate sale and an outside yard sale are 2 completely different things and will draw completely different crowds.

To be honest I've had more problems with high-strung buyers flipping out on me than no-shows. For example, I put a 60 gig PS3 on sale a couple months ago, and was getting about 10 inquiries a day about it. There was all sorts of fun with that listing... I had about three people call me lying scum because they thought I was BSing when I would deny their lowball offer and say "I have alot of people looking to pay the asking price", then there was a whole flock of people calling me a douche when I wrote them and told them I sold it to someone else(even though I never agreed to sell to any of them).

Luckily I've really only been stood up twice. I never go out of my way solely for a CL meetup, I only try to arrange at places that are in the immediate vicinity of my work or home, and if I'm driving out thirty minutes or so I only do it when I make my pawn shop rounds and such so the trip isn't a waste.

Haha, from this introduction, I was assuming that a "Casual Encounters" meet-up had gone bad.

this happen to my cousin last summer..

They put some video games up on cr.list

someone emailed them saying they would take

theme park. brain age 1 and 2 for 40 bucks... the.... they said they will meet them at walgreens at 3pm...

my cousin went up to walgreens and meet them... the person ask if the child could see the games before they buy them... my cousin handed them the games ... the kid takes off running and jumps in the car... well they didnt think much about it the Fat cow of a mother goes

I can get all 3 games for 10 used on ebay and tosses them 2 5.00 bills

my cousin say no way in hell are they selling 3 games for 10 bucks but the woman yelled at her kid to lock the doors and keep the games... the mother said take it or leave... jumped in the car and took off.....

cops were called but they said there was nothing they could do ..

i actually lucked up in my first major craigslist encounter...picked up my current b/c 80 gig ps3, 2 controllers, ac cord, hdmi cable, bluray remote, and some crappy game, eh..it was mlb 2k7 or something, for $220 bucks...had to drive a half hour to get it, but the guy kept his word, and everything went smooth, met him while he was on his lunch break, as he lived another 20-25 minutes away, but worked in this town, that was roughly halfway between us...and nearly 3 months later, it still gives me hours of play daily, with not the first issue...*knocks on wood

only other deal i've really ever had, was with a guy that bought an in-dash TV headunit off of me...turned out he was actually a pretty big, burly dude, but he paid right up, looked over it, i offered to pull the radio out of my truck, to plug that one in to show it worked fine, he said not to worry about it, turned and we went about our business..

i've heard some horror stories like that, i've had a few people flake out on me, were going to stop by to look at an old set of wheels, or something..and they'd say to stay here at home, they'd stop by within the next hour, and you'd never hear anything else out of them.

i've gotten some pretty good deals off of craigslist. all the transactions were pretty smooth for me. i do understand how there are some craigslist flakers for buyers and sellers. it happens so buyer or seller beware.

Oh fuck that noise. Not that I would EVER hand over the merchandise without payment in hand first (come on, that's rule number one), but no way in hell would anyone even try that around me. Just from the vibe I give off they would know better. The other thing to note is, I ALWAYS scope out a location beforehand if I'm not the one in control of the meet.

I get to a deal point early to scope out the location, as well as scout it out on google street view if possible. Any deals where I'm selling something, I choose the location for my maximum benefit, no exceptions.

But if something like that did happen, I would kick that cunt's window(s) in and take back the games. Perhaps even visit physical violence on her in front of her kid, or the kid in front of her, or both for the audacity of such an act. Or perhaps follow them home, and plan out something really good. For although some insignificant transaction is nothing to get yourself in legal/criminal trouble over, sometimes conniving crooks like this bitch (and especially her children as they are learning the trade from her) need to be taught a lesson so they never try to pull the same shit again. In any case, I'm not a nice guy, and I am most assuredly the wrong $$$$er to fuck with.

Hmmm, or maybe pull out a knife and slash all four of her tires as payment for the games. So many options in a situation like that. It would really depend upon what sort of surveillance the store had of the parking lot, how much of my contact information could be ascertained, and my general mood and demeanor. But that would never happen to me in the first place so the point is moot.

yeah, depending on where this happened, the cops would give two shits because they've got better things to do and treat it as a civil dispute to be settled between the two parties. The $ amount was too little for them to give a damn about, they will treat it as he said/she said, and ultimately the fat bitch probably took off so even if the guy got her plates and had her email/cell contact info etc. the cops aren't going to bother tracking her down over $30.

Completely and absolutely sucks, but basically you live and learn. Out here in LA, the cops are "too busy" to even bother with hit and runs unless there are substantial injuries. And even then, it could take them hours to get out to a non-911, "non-serious" report.

That's why you have to always be taking care of YOUR business and looking out for #1 - YOURSELF.

Craigslist meets GTA. Always make sure you got Niko with a sniper rifle on a roof covering the deal.

:lol::applause:

FLOL, you should see some of the shady characters I've encountered via craigslist, straight out of the GTA series. But this is LA, so that's to be expected. LA/SoCal has the largest populations/communities of more foreign groups/other nation's citizens than anyplace else in the world. In fact, many of these groups' populations exceed the largest cities' populations in their native countries.

I don't live in anything close to LA, but you still have to know that you have to handle your business. If someone ever took my stuff and ran I'd immediately follow them or if they're still stopped, slash a tire.

:lol::lol::lol: Not funny for your cousin, but that's why I always meet at the mall downtown and far away from the exits or the garage.

That'd be the fuckin' day I meet someone outside.

If somebody tried a grab and run, I'm picking up the chair I'm sitting on and they're getting brained with it or I'm tackling their ass.

I've had shmucks before bugging me to meet them at their house or had them barking where to meet(like down in the garage of the mall so they could mug me). Sorry buddy, but it's MY shit and you're meeting me on MY terms or you can get fucked.

Like Enron Lackey said, it's their shit to sell and they are allowed to change their mind if they either A) get a better offer or B) just plain ol' change their mind.

As for me, most times I'm meeting someone for a deal I make sure I'm going to the mall anyway for something and I hang out for 30-40 minutes after the deal to make sure they're not gonna try and follow/mug me for their $$$ back.

Yeah um these posts are why I don't do craigslist, perhaps if I had a large, burly male friend willing to help me out at the drop of a hat I would, but I am a girl so I would be instantly taken advantage of regardless. Bit hard for me to do craigslist in my situation. Whatever money I am going to get out of the item I am trying to sell isn't worth it for the trouble I could possibly get myself into.
