is it usefull to have a laptop in college?

I think they use laptop to help differentiate between desktop, even though you might put your laptop on a desk. Also the name suggests portability. And it is SODA not "pop" or "soda pop" just SODA.
 
I never needed a laptop for my major, although it would have been nice at times. It can be invaluable if you are using a computer at school and home a lot. But for me some of the more important programs we used at school, I could not get onto a home computer or laptop because they were engineering programs that required hardware keys, etc. So I still had to use the school computers. A lot depends on you major and situation.
