I picked up F-Zero GX alongside Geist two days ago at Toys R Us for $10 each.

F-Zero has been having a host of problems:
-The menus stutter and take a long time to load (i.e., I press A while highlighting options, and it takes 5-10 seconds for the options to come up)
-The menu music has frozen up on one occassion. It sounded like a scratched CD would - it started skipping then just went haywire. As soon as the music changed when I started a race though, it was fine.
-It has crashed three times thus far (giving me 'an error has occured' message), all three while there's a black screen while it's loading.

I would think this is simply an overheating problem with my Gamecube, but I have had zero problems with Geist, even after playing it for 3 hours straight today. Also, after I had the first problem with F-Zero, I took my GCN out of the TV stand it was in, so now it's in open-air (70-ish degrees f). I DID have an overheating problem with my gamecube a few years back, but I sent it in, got it fixed, and haven't had any issues since then.

Are these common problems, or what should I do? I would return it to TRU, but as far as I could tell it was their last copy of the game.

HELP!

I've never had any problems like that with F-Zero. Have you examined the disc? Have you tried playing any other obviously CPU/GPU intensive games that would cause overheating like Metroid Prime or either of the Rogue Squadron games? If that's the only game you're having trouble with then yeah, I'd expect it's a problem with the disc.

If Geist is working, it seems like its a problem with your disk.

If you need to find a fresh copy, let me know. My local TRU seemed to have a bunch in stock.

Just played over an hour of Metroid Prime, not one problem. Then put in F-Zero again - first time, it displayed the Nintendo/Sega logos, then gave me an error. So I turned the power off then on. Then I booted it up again, got to the menu, selected "story mode", the screen went black to load, and it gave me an error again. My F-Zero is definately defective.

Thanks BigHow, but the point was I don't want to BUY another copy, I'd like to trade out my defective copy for a new one. I'll call my TRU to make sure, but what do I do if they have no more copies? I can't send it into Nintendo or anything, can I?

Actually, the discs have a 3-month manufacturer's warranty so if TRU can't exchange it for a new copy you should be able to call Nintendo and get them to replace it instead. They'll probably want to do a bit of troubleshooting over the phone first to ensure it's not a hardware problem though.

Wow, I didn't know about that, thanks! I called up Nintendo, and I'm getting it replaced free of charge. :bouncy:
