Is Nintendo gonna have to create a new franchise/series?

Looking back at history and patterns, there's usually only one instance of a series per console when it's on Nintendo. There's deviations of course (Zelda being the biggest example, as well as Mario Bros on NES, and recently Mario Party) but take a look at the different Mario entries. Mario Kart, SSB, Mario Strikers, Zelda, Metroid, and a Mario platformer will already have been released during Wii's second full year. Are they gonna make more entries or are they gonna bust out something new? I'd personally like another Mario platformer and atleast two more Zeldas. Other than that though, I either want them to revisit Donkey Kong as a platformer or come up with something new. These new revisions are fun but I think Mario Kart:DD really suffered from this format.

There are some other franchises that haven't been talked about much with regards to their Wii entries. Animal Crossing Wii is coming, but not much is known about it yet except speculation and rumors. Also, very little has been said about a new Star Fox.

I'd love to see a new series, myself, but Nintendo's not completely out of stuff yet.

Disaster: Day of Crisis is a new Nintendo franchise.

For returning franchises I would like to see New Super Mario Brothers 2 either on the DS or Wii, a vehicle only Star Fox for the Wii, and Super Smash Brothers for the DS.

Totally agree on Starfox. We also haven't heard anything from Pikmin or Kirby on the Wii. They could also try and work with Chibi Robo. Also, they could try and resurrect some long dormant franchises. I know a lot of people would like to see Kid Icarus or Mother (Earthbound). I'd really like to see them return to Star Tropics. Even better, they could bring back the world of Battle Clash. That series was a lot of fun with the Super Scope. Pilotwings and Eternal Darkness would also be very cool.

There seems to be a Kirby game in the works (updated GC game that was cancelled), and I have to think there is a Pikmin game coming at some point for Wii. But yes, I would love to see a new franchise or two. Problem is, Nintendo doesn't seem to promote them much anymore. Chibi-Robo, Drill Dozer and Hotel Dusk are just 3 examples of recent games that are really good, but got little or no promotion and generally ended up in clearance bins.

I do believe that eternal darkness belongs to silicon knights and star tropics would be stellar to make a come back!

F-Zero is another franchise sega needs to go work on again. Battle clash would be chronic too! Golden Sun, Nintendogs, a Kirby game, a Luigi game, mario golf game and a platforming wario game are things they haven't touched yet. You know miyamoto has things he hasn't even spoken of yet in the works. Don't forget wave race either! then they can go after ice climbers and punchout starring floyd mayweather!

There has to be a new Pikmin, the Wii controls seem like a natural fit for it.

But yea, I'd certainly like to see them do something new. I mean, on the NES they were popping out new games left & right - some became series, some didn't. It seems like the longer Nintendo has gone on, the less they've wanted to stray from the "tried and true" series, and that's a shame.

Not that I'm a fan, but 1080 needs a Wii installment. Don't forget the canceled Pennant Chase Baseball game from the Cube. There still needs to be a Zelda game for Wii that is designed for the Wii. Those are just off the top of my head...

I'd like to see some totally new franchises, but in mainstream genres. Not stuff like Pikmin and Animal Crossing, but something like a new platformer franchise etc.

As for sequels, I'd love a vehicle only Star Fox.

It takes a lot more resources to make a game now than it did in the 8-bit days, and even then we didn't have Star Fox, Pikmin, Pokemon, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Smash Bros, etc. Nintendo has to stick to "tried and true" to a degree. They are still a business, so everything can't be a gamble.

While I want to see new franchises pop up, and I'm sure we will, I can't help but feel new Nintendo games can't come popping out from left & right without their quality suffering.

I wanna see Pikmin already. It seems like a no brainer for the Wii or DS yet Nintendo seems more interested in casual crap like Brain Age and Wii Fit.

Let's see what would I want to see, new or old rebooted franchise-wise.
  • A real sequel to Super Mario RPG
  • A new F-Zero; if it's remotely as awesome as the one for GC, I'd be a happy camper.
  • Kirby
  • A traditional Pokemon RPG for the Wii, even if it's a remake of one of the originals using Wii graphics and simple, traditional gameplay -- I think a lot of people would be happy

Yeah, I know, how can stupid Nintendo keep putting out games that break all kinds of sales records when I don't like them?

I think everyone gets why they are doing it and that they are raking in tons of cash.

But that doesn't mean that people can't be disappointed that their previously favorite game maker hasn't thrown them enough bones this generation.

As usual I completely agree with Dmaul. Many are too quick to attack against complaining about, what is in some's opinions, a dearth of non...um...wii-sports/wii-play/wii-fit/brain-ageISH type games. I love these games I jut mentioned, don't get me wrong.

Surprised no one has mentioned No More Heroes, it looks like it is going to be super bad ass but who knows if it will evolve or (hopefully not) devolve into a franchise.

What I would like to see:

PIKMIN!!! Come on N...enough of this elebits dewy shit. Give us the real deal. We want pikmin!

DK would be cool, I thought that was a good idea. Perhaps a DK platformer where he carried diddy in his backback, and diddy carried an inflatable Yoshi in his backback, and yoshi could hatch eggs which, when coupled with water, would hactch young links which could grow up....

Another Zelda, but NO BS GC PORT! A real, HD new zelda game. I wouldn't even mind a return to cell shadded but may be the mnority here.

While it may be fun to talk abotu another mario platformer, it wont be on the wii, they have held true to the "one console one mario platformer" maxim lately.

While I'd be surprised if Nintendo didn't have at least one new Miyamoto-inspired IP for this generation, much like Pikmin from last, there are still a ton of games from franchises that may as well be new IPs with how long they've been dormant that can be revisited, most of which have been mentioned already.

I'm actually very surprised we haven't seen a Pikmin for either the Wii or DS. Both systems seem like perfect candidates for this game. In fact, I will be very surprised if we don't see something announced for either system before 2009.

I don't think you're alone. Of all of the 3D iterations, Wind Waker reminds me the most of my LTTP days. I would love to see another Wind Waker "styled" game not in the Wind Waker world.

I wouldn't be surprised to see another Mario on the DS. Maybe a New Super Mario Bros. 2? I think it would be very hard to top Galaxy on the Wii, so I don't expect to see another console Mario until Wii 2.

I know it's been mentioned before, but I'll reiterate. Kid Icarus.

Now I know this isn't a new IP, but I'd love to see a decently fleshed out Mario Golf. I've been a big fan of the series so far.

That one has my eye, but I have reservations as I didn't like Killer 7 (though this looks to be a lot different from that game) and it looks like a beat em up game, and I'm not very fond of those in general.

Graphic style is amazing though.
