Is the PS3 still a Rare item or is no one interested
ok. maybe that was nintendo then. i know some1 originally said region free and went back on it.
That is indeed a sore spot for me... considering their handheld region stance...

Not that I have a vast interest in Japanese imports, but some games are great fun and might not make it over here at all....

Ah well... can't have everything... I do like PS3 being game-region free tho...

region-coding bites anyway. :)

Well, I noticed that my local Target finally sold their 6 60GB PS3's. They sat there for several days until all of a sudden on Sunday they were gone. My theory - people who showed up too late to buy the Wii that morning (I'm sure they all sold out well before opening) bought a PS3 as a consolation prize. This is the exact OPPOSITE of what we all thought would be happening with this launch (PS3's would be hard to find and people would 'settle' for the Wii - thus Nintendo's strategy of launching right after the PS3).

That's what I'd like to think happened, anyway

Nintendo did that, but Sony did, to a degree, as well - if you count "sleight of hand" as going back on a promise. They said "region free," which it is - for PS3 games only. PS1 and PS2 games from outside the NTSC US/Canada region will not work on a PS3 bought in the US. That was really upsetting to me.

No shit, THAT would've been enough for me to consider buying one. However seeing how shitty bc is I don't mind. Now I just need to bag up a fat new import PS2 for a reasonable price.

But did Sony ever imply that PS1/2 games would be region free as well?

I would think that PS3 games are made to be region free, but PS1/2 games were not which is why not all regions work on the PS3 with those games.

I have a 360, I have a Wii, I have a DS, I have a PC.

I could care less about BluRay right now and Sony doesn't have a whole lot right now (1 game won't make me buy the system) to keep my interest that my 360 can't do.

I have sold my two PSP's due to lack of good games. Most developers are picking up on the fact many people feel "burned" by Sony. Expect to see many more PS3 exclusives go to the 360. Sony screwed up this time.

You just didn't look hard enough for PSP games. The PSP has a bunch of great games on it.

Yeah, I was on the fence about selling my PSP a couple months ago but I'm glad I hung on to it. There's not only the great looking titles on the horizon but there was some great PSP games that came out in the last couple months that were completely passed over.

I think Sony, as well as M$, will loose exclusives but because of production costs. It is very expensive to produce this generation of games, so developers who have no ties with either company will see more profit if they put their games on both. I think the one who is going to loose is Nintendo. I'm not saying their going to go away, but they have tied the hands of third party developers to create for the Wiimote. Will games like Splinter Cell be exciting to play on the Wii? I can't see it.

betcha the wii will have games that appeal to a diff crowd. there will be cross platform 360-PS3 games. but a large part of the wii crowd will buy exclusive titles which were designed around its controller. why? ill tell ya. i know ppl about 10 years older than me. people who consider VGs childrens toys, who absolutely loved wii sports. why? because it was engrossing. they dont obsess about 'graphics' or whats the most 'l337'. theyre the typical non-gamer. yet the wii is still fun for them.

fact of the matter is VGs are the future of entertainment. interactive movies e.g. nintendo's the 1st to really tap that market though. the fanboys who say OMG PS3 or OMG 360 graphics are yet to realize that its a very coterie mentality. the majority of consumers out there veiw games as a liesurely activity, like going to see movies on friday or saturady night.

thats the future. yes graphics will improve over time. but it wont be the primary focus of console growth until the interactivity has been satiated.

Look at a game like Zelda. It uses what I would consider "traditional" gameplay mechanics and adapts them quite well to the wii's controller.

Splinter cell WOULD be a fun game with the Wiimote....if the developer uses the controller well (I don't think they did, particularly, with Double Agent). I don't think Nintendo has tied the hands of the developer so much as they've challenged them to come up with a new, interactive control scheme.

With the nunchauk attachment, all the pieces are there for the same type of gameplay as exists on the PS3 and the 360....the format is just a bit different. You have to think of some of the biomechanic actions as "buttons" and that's going to take awhile for the devs to get used to. But, given Wii's sales so far, I have faith they WILL get used to it in order to realize some profit out of that market.
