Is there any way to name a PSP video file?

I'm using PSP Video Manager to transfer movies from my PC to my PSP. I've have had a major annoyance with not being able to assign a specific name to each file or even being able to keep the same file name.

Is there any way to keep it the same file name or to rename it after you've transferred it to the PSP?

Are you talking about the file name or the title that appears when looking at the file on the PSP? The title metadata is the more important part on the PSP end since it is what you actually see.

It's like using a digital camera. It creates a serially numbered series of generic filenames. They only matter in that the PC can distinguish otherwise identical files. (A bunch of pictures of the same scen can be identical in size.)

I learned a similar lesson about MP3 files. I was used to players that ordered the files by filename but a lot of apps like iTunes and the iPod are helpless without the correct tags. This can be a real problem for an audiobook that comes up on the iPod as a several dozen identical names with no order. and since audiobook are less likely to be covered by the major databases the chances of the ripping app producing the correct tags is very hit or miss.

Download PSP Video 9. Even with the purchase of retail software this freebie is a must have for PSP users. It lets you edit metadata on video files that have already been created. Chances are it will also deal with the file name issue if that is the problem.

I've been experimenting with a review copy of Magix Movies2Go and so far it seems Windows Movie Maker 2 and PSP Video 9, both free, used in combination are a far better value. I start with MPEG-2 files transferred from my RePlayTV and use Movie Make to edit out the ads and other unwanted material. Converting those files, still at NTSC resolution, to WMV saves a hell of a lot of space for long term storage. The original 2.4 GB for a one hour show goes down to under 500MB after editing and transcoding to WMV. CD-Rs instead of DVD-Rs saves some money and make it a lot easier to keep a lot on the hard drive. Some might prefer going to Quicktime MPEG-4 but that is just a matter of personal preference. The size is about the same.

Yeah, I'm looking to change the file I saw when scrolling through on the PSP. I do have PSP Video 9, but haven't messed with it too much. I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the tip.

When I burned Constantine to my PSP, I took the files that were created from DVD Shrink and renamed them to Contantine. then converted them with PSP Video 9. It now shows up with the name of Constantine in my movie section.
