Is This A Good TV?
yeah, I realize that but he wants to buy on credit instead of buying out right. I told him he doesn't have to get me a TV, but he really wants to be able to do something like this for me.

when you made the comment about going from a Samsung to a Sharp and picture quality, what did you mean? Are you saying that Sharp's PQ is worse then Samsungs?
yeah, sharp's is alot worse than samsung's. samsung is the best LCD picture right now, followed by sony, then toshiba and sharp. that's not to say sharp's aren't great tv's, just samsungs are head and shoulders above them. so if you already love the samsung, you'll be disappointed in the sharp. it's an investment you'll have for a few years, might as well go high end right?

As far as lcds, sharp makes an excellent lcd. I would take a sharp lcd over any of the brands you listed. Of course, I hate lcds. I would take a pioneer, panasonic, or samsung plasma before any of those.

To the OP, you should ask your question at www.avsforum.com. you'll get much more knowledgeable responses.

I will say this though. When you look in a store, most tvs are set on dynamic mode. They do this because, most people think brighter=better. This is not the case, for the most accurate picture as what the studio intended you to see. You should bring a calibration disc with you, to adjust settings accordingly. It's impossible to tell which tv picture looks "best" with these settings.

Yeah, I've been over there looking, they have a thread but not many owning the TV's I'm looking at, since the 85U's are fairly new I believe

I went and saw some of the Sharp Aquo's models, and am Impressed. The only thing I have left to decide now is to go for a 42" or the 46"

my main concern is viewing distance, which I'm not sure what's a good distance, since each site I look at says something difference

be patient over there, and do your research. a lot of the people over there are big into their home theater stuff, and buy new tvs every 6 months. I lurk over there alot, and it's how I made my decision on my 50" samsung 1080p plasma.

what do you mean by good distance?

Take into account, when it comes into sets resolution doesnt mean everything. A 720p pioneer kuro looks better than pretty much every 1080p lcd out there. A pioneer as the blackest blacks, and better shadow detail than any other consumer set. The 1080p pioneer is just nuts, and is rivaled by no one. If you can find a 720p (really a 768p) pioneer for cheap, I believe you'd be very happy with that.

game mode on this set is balls. Why?

It shoots the sharpness up to 50 (Waaaay too high) and contrast is 80 + 45 Brightness and 7 backlight. It is WAY too bright and colors are over saturated.

It boggles me why Samsung didn't allow you to cu8stomize the basic picture qualities w/ game-mode.

I have a samsung plasma, and I can totally calibrate everything. Weird how they wont let you do it on other sets. Game mode seems to crush blacks though so I dont use it.

My Sharp Aquos 42" 65U set arrived today from Dell. This set is AWESOME, no banding issues, SD looks great (could be a bit better), HD Looks amazing in 1080P (my first set with 1080P. I couldn't be happier. It's also programming with my comcast remote (unlike the Olevia was)

I just need to figure out if I want to connect directly into the TV with my inputs or continue with them threw my Onkyo Reciever

Weird thing though is that when CEVA delivered the TV they claimed to only have the TV and not the Blu Ray player it came with. Even though their shipping invoice and the one the driver handed me from Dell says 2 boxes and lists the Blu Ray player.

So I had to call Dell, and after being transfered to two different people I got it taken care of. It's going to be a pain in my ass though. The guy said since the TV and player are a package, he has to send both to me, and I return the TV. So I'm getting a Blu Ray player still, but it's just a lot of hassle that I don't understand the need for. You'd think they'd want to save on shipping charges and just return the TV at the warehouse but send the player.
