Is this a ripoff?

Buyrite is a bad place to order from, that's all I know.

Edit: Not only that, the composite to S-video wouldn't do anything to improve your image quality.

I belevie they do have a pretty bad rep. And that Composite to S-Video Adapter thingy, well that's a new one for me.

I smell fish. If you look at the photo on MK3 on the second link you'll notice it's a mock up pre production pic and the SF game is like SF3 looking. And the first thing is total bullshit.

The composite to S-Video cable is supposed to be used the other way around (using something that only supports S-Video with a composite TV), it doesn't improve quality. And they come free with any PC Videocard with S-Video out, which you could buy at Newegg for 40-50. EDIT: Unfortunately, some of the video cards come with 7-pin adaptors which a standard TV doesn't support.

I'll sell you one of those cables for $15 if you want one.

Buy-Rite should be renamed to Buy-Wrong. This Company is aweful. They scammed me years ago...like 8 years ago. And they've been doing it to everyone else since then. I have no idea how in hell they have stayed in business this long. They will take your money and sit on it. When and if, and I mean if they decide to ship your item. It could be anything. It could be what you wanted, but used and abused. It could be something altogether different. Then, you have to deal with their Customer Service, but guess what? They don't have any. You can go down to their physical store, but if you ordered on the Internet, they won't talk to you. I could go on and on and on.

Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this Company like the PLAGUE!

Actually. I believe Mortal Kombat 4 and Street Fighter Alpha 2 are the games pictured. These games are for PlayStation... not the Sega Genesis.

Yup, a horrible company. I got double charged once on an online order and got no response from their "customer support." My bank had to resolve the issue, and that was the last time I ever dealt with them. Their shipping costs are absurdly high, they ship their games in cheap envelopes, not in bubble-padded mailers, and one of my games was obviously re-shrunkwrapped although it was supposed to be brand new.

As for the products you mentioned, that adapter is worthless. Converting composite video into s-video doesn't improve the quality of the original signal in any way. And those screenshots for the Genesis? One is from Mortal Kombat 4, one is from Street Fighter 3, and two screenshots are lifted from Gamespot.

God, what else is there to say? STAY AWAY FROM BUY-RITE.

Oh, and as a side note, there's only a few online importers I deal with (mostly for imports), and here's the ones I recommend the most:

http://www.ncsx.com - EXCELLENT customer support, EXCELLENT shipping and use of shipping materials (although you'll definitely pay for it), updates almost daily on weekdays; all-around supurb online retailer. You'll usually pay a little more than other importers, but that's what you get for quality service

http://www.play-asia.com - Weekly import discount specials, $5-off coupons included with each order, great prices on new imports, vast selection of import games, DVDs, toys and music - Very recommended, but if you choose basic shipping you'll be waiting quite awhile to get the order from Hong Kong

Those are the two I use the most often. Importers I use less often (but have had great experiences with) include:

http://www.lik-sang.com - comparable to Play-Asia and free basic shipping on most import games, but less of a selection of imports, lots of great controller adapters though! - based in Hong Kong

http://www.videogamedepot.com - Not as many deals and a smaller selection of imports, but they sometimes discount import games that don't sell well and carry game soundtracks and niche import items - based in US

http://us.yesasia.com/en/index.aspx - for everything asian: movies, music, games, toys. Rarely do I buy import games here, but have found a few deals and soundtracks the other stores don't carry - usually their items ship from the Bay Area after receiving them from overseas

Hoped that helped a few people...

Even if your TV has S-video inputs and your console has S-Video cords, the increase in quality is not really noticeable. When you get to Component cables, then you're cooking.

The difference that I've seen between composite and S-video is: eliminates dot-crawl, eliminates "rainbow" effect on scrolling white text, diagonal lines etc., more vibrant colors, more lines of resolution output compared to composite.

True, it's no component video, but if you at least have s-video inputs on your TV, USE THEM.

Buy Rite is evil. I have never once heard one person say they had a good experience with them. Everything from taking six months (no typo, MONTHS) to ship something in stock, refusing to refund orders where a game was 'temporarly out of stock'.

Evil. Stay away. Bad. Danger.

I've ordered one thing from them, and it was back around 99 or 00. I bought Fire Pro Wrestling G and had no problems at all with them.
