I had a post about building a PC but then ran across this. The scenario is I have a 500MHZ PC that I want to upgrade. It doesn't need to be a monster and as far as gaming the only thing I may play on it is MAME. Anyway I was thinking I could buy this system for $180 and pull the hard drive and sell it (since I have a bigger drive already) for some more RAM for this. Is it worth spending the $180 on this?

I realize it is obviously pretty bargain basement but I really don't need top of the line. Thoughts?

That's around the retail price for the machine. However, if you want to save some $, find your nearest Microcenter, they have a "visa rewards card" where you can save up to $100 dollars on your first purchase. You could end up getting this machine for $100, if the price is right.

The chip in that only runs at 1.5ghz, and the cache on-chip is something like 256k, much like a Athlon XP Thoroughbred core with a Barton bus. It's good for business use, not gaming. I'm sure mame will run fine on it, except for the few newer/more hardware intensive games.

That's too much trouble... just go to newegg.com and find an HDD and memory, it'll probably end up being cheaper that way too.
