My TV is pretty screwed up and I need a new one. I was originally just gunna get another, regular, SDtv. But I thought "Hey, if I need to get a new TV anyway, I might as well go HD."

Unfortunetly, I don't have a lot of money, so I can't get one of those huge HDtv's. I did, however, manage to find a much more affordable one. But I don't know if it will give me the awesome 360 experience that I'm looking for. Can somebody please help me out and tell me what I can expect from this?

Thanks in advance.

It'd be better to get a widescreen one. All 360 games are always widescreen in HD so you'd have to have everything stretched or letterboxed (black bars on the top and bottom) on that TV.

Also, you can buy a VGA cable and hook it up to a PC monitor if you want to save money but still play in HD.

I did find a widescreen one for about the same price, but it's an inch smaller. And if I got a widescreen, wouldn't that stretch a regular TV signal and PS2 games ans stuff?

And about the computer monitor thing, I was planning on doing that for a long time, but the guy at Best Buy said that I needed to buy like a billion things to make it all work.
A billion things? A VGA cable, is not a billion things.

I wouldn't buy the TV you posted because it's 4:3.
I'm just saying what the BB guy told me. He said it had to be hooked up to a computer and bunch of other shit. And I do want to be able to watch TV on it, so I would need a TV tuner. It would be awesome if someone could tell me everything I needed to buy in order to be able to watch TV and play all my consoles on a computer monitor thats at least 27".

And I don't know what 4:3 means.

Well, if you plan on watching stuff besides the 360, than yeah, VGA probably itsn't the best option for you.

4:3 is the TV's ratio. A 16:9 ratio means that it is a widescreen TV. 4:3 is fullscreen.
I just bought the 30PW8420/37B. With coupon code: HOLIDAY-2006 you get 10% off and free shipping. Came out to about $340 shipped.
Holy shit! Thats awesome!

But I didn't see anything about Component plug-ins (or whatever they're called). Or maybe I'm just an idiot and I missed it. What exactly can I expect from that TV?
Your first mistake is listening to the Best Buy guys...
A lot of people tell me that :whistle2:(

So I should be able to do everything I need to on this thing then? Watch a regular TV signal with no distortion and play all my consoles with no problems?

Just be careful about the Phillips tv's. I had one and a year after I got it pink spots were appearing all over the bottom. Luckily I got it at Costco so I returned it no questions asked, but Im never touching a Philips product again.

It doesn't have an ATSC or QAM tuner, so if you want to watch HD-TV, you will need a seperate tuner (HD cable/sattelite box or over-the-air tuner)

Lets take things one step at a time.

;)

I've had a refurb from Phillips for just about a year now. No problems what so ever. My roommate did get some pink coloration or something in the left side of his but I gotta believe it was from watching gay porn or something. I would recomend this site.
Just another note, that TV doesn't support 720p, only 480p and 1080i. Careful with that and the PS3, zew.
I know. These TVs are suppose to have a good scaler though, which should eliminate that problem. Plus, hopefully by the time I get a PS3, that issue will be dealt with.

If you go the computer monitor route, you should know that while widescreen TVs (and thus widescreen videogame signals) are in 16:9 screen ratio, widescreen monitors are 16:10. You can either deal with the ~11% vertical distortion, or you can use a rather chintzy workaround: adjusting the monitor's vertical screen size (if available) until you get the correct aspect ratio. You'll have some tiny black bars on the top and bottom, of course.

Ok. I'm about to order this TV and I need to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Are all you people POSITIVE that this TV has everything I need to play my 360 (and other consoles) with the best picture possible? Does the 360 even do 1080i? I don't understand this crap.
