Was at the gamestore today and was wondering whoever had a wii component cable would let me know if the cable is a good investment like what is the highest resolution it would output for a hdtv and does gamecube games get stretched to widescreen with this cable I really dont like the 4:3 configuration even though my tv can expand it to widescreen which looks kind of weird.

Don't pay $30 for them. Do a search for "wii component" on fatwallet and you'll find a thread that links to a place where they cost $2.84 shipped after GCO. I bought them and they make quite a difference.

*Fixed your title...and yes, they are.
You know when you call someone out with all caps and bold lettering, you should at least get it right....

He was actually correct and you just made an ass of yourself. Besides we all make spelling mistakes, no need to be anal about it on a message board. One could argue that it should be are wii component cables worth it? no biggie though

I dont know if it was mentioned but i think(keyword think) Wii runs at 480p highest

Thank you for the suggestions and places to look at but dont appreciate the person who thinks his grammar comprehension is all high and mighty. I consider this like a blog. People can type however they want to type.

Does any place besides Nintendo's online store stock the "official" first-party cables?

I ask because I really prefer the first-party brand accessories when it comes to cables and such.

Been considering component cables for a while now, but haven't been able to pull the trigger.

I know I've seen them at my Best Buy.

Damn, that's $5 above retail. I know I've seen the official ones at TRU and EB. $20 @ Amazon, too.

Personally I went with the Psyclone cables. Apparently, there's two different sets. One is around $60-$70, and one is $20 at Target. I went with the $20 set, and it looks great on my SDTV.

The box looks like this

I got the Play-Asia one for $13 shipped, no regrets... and yes, if you got components on your TV, i don't see why not. As a matter of fact, you'll be a fool not to use it...

Your GC games will look better too (didn't try this with the GC over component, but did tried GC games over Wii's component). Colors are more vivid and edges are sharper, e.g. in Windwaker, you can clearly see the grass edges in component mode, but it's kinda blurry in regualr av mode.

I've seen the official ones at Gamestop too. Personally I'd always go with the official cables for an analog connection (unless you're a casual gamer maybe).

Yeah, actually they're both wrong. It would be "Are wii component cables worth it?"

Not "is wii component cable worth it?"
and
Not "are wii component cable worth it"

The wii component cables consist of multiple cables, not a single cable :)

It's grammar not spelling also.

I'm bored.

i also got psyclone cables, they are working fine and for games that support widescreen they look great

Well technically, if you seperated the individual strands, it would not work. It all tapers to one plug, also.

I'm ok with the singular form in this instance.

Do you have a TV with component inputs? Then there's little excuse not to. Even in 480i the quality difference between composite video and component video is significant. Once you're in progressive scan it becomes even better.

The Wii component cables are TOTALLY worth it.
Only bad thing about them is that the audio and video parts of the cable are fastened together too closely, which means if the video and audio are going
to different places (ie TV vs Stereo) then you could have a problem. Luckily for me my TV can pass audio back to the stereo (receiver doesn't do component).

The picture is massively improved. The standard (composite) video is shit.
yes they most definatly are. i just got mine in the mail from gaming lagoon (for free of course) and it helps a lot.
What brand of cables do they give you?

If each wire is wrapped individually, this shouldn't be a problem.

Can you use these cables on a component and NOT HD connection? I have a plain old projection tv from about 8 years ago that works great and has a component hook up, but no HDTV.

Yep, no problem.

It's *only* SD, so yeah.

Thanks Professor Dingleberry. I've made an ass of myself in worse places and by no means was I being anal, just trying to have fun like everyone else.

Yep, but you can't do that with this one because of how it's designed.
I consider it a flaw in their design personally.
It's *only* SD, so yeah.
I tried it on my older tv that had a component input but when I set it to 480p the signal screwed up. Even though the tv has component inputs, does that not mean it can show a 480p picture?

Got myself a Wii component cable over the weekend and the improvement is very noticeable. Well worth the $$.

There are a handful of SDTVs out there that have component inputs but don't support progressive scan. I've played SSBM on such a TV before. Even though we missed out on progressive scan the color quality of component video was still noticeably better than the composite cable.

Haven't played much of the Wii until I picked up Zelda last week. It looked pretty crappy, until I hooked up the Wii to component cables, wow what a different. Based on this comparison alone, I say that the Wii should NEVER be used with composite. Everything is crisper, clearer, just plain better.
