i just got this E3 book in the mail and was shocked at the prices to go this thing

just the 3 day floor pass is 500 per person if you send the money but APRIL 7, after that is 650 per person..

the hotels are around 125- 270 per night for a single

so figure 4 nights for 2 people at a med hotel (230 per night)

Hotel 920 bucks
Tickets 1000-1300

totat (just tickets and hotel) 1920 to 2220

that is freaking insane ... even if you got free tickets you still looking at 900+

i was thinking of trying to go , But not at these prices

seems all the hotels in the downtown area are already SOLD OUT

The students at UAT used to be able to go for free, but this year E3 wants to go with a more professional look so students are not allowed unless they pay for themselves. This is my second semester here and I am royally pissed at this decision, seeing as I was going to go next year.

how well do they screen for E3 cause it seems that it would be very easy to get into the place

all you need is

2 forms of id out of this list

resale tax certificate
company credit card (with your name)
insurance card
business ad (with business cards)
business licence
commercial licence
paycheck stub
w-2 form

i think it would be very easy to get the Resale tax thing and the business cards... Just go down and apply for a small business permit (around 20-50 bucks ) go make yourself up some business cards and WHAMMM you got
2 of the 8 items you need

be a man-- sleep in your car and eat out of dumpsters. only drink MD 20/20 or schlitz ;)

$1K to stand in a hall w/sweaty, deodorant-averse fanboys to ogle models, watch FMV's and maybe, possibly play a demo? Sign me up!

gamestop/eb only got 400 passes for the company. last year even a chimp game advisor could go for free.

$2,000 is nothing to most companies. Shit, I've gone on a one night trip for work plenty of times and billed clients $6,000+ for the day (including my rate of $405/an hour, of course :D).

I think you need to be a member of Rich Ass Gamer with that sort of an hourly rate.

I got one of those registration things sent to me. I own 2 fake computer companies, 1 is "mac doc software" and the other is "mac and me". Problem is all they do is produce fake profits, so I guess I won't be attending E3 this year.

Yeah, I got hit with the "No Students" rule. Thanks for making me lose out on possible education and social networking. Dicks.

Well, my firm gets all the money from my billing and I get a fixed salary (which is why they work me like a dog). Someone around here did the math and 700 hours billed is the firm's break even point with an associate at my level which works out to less than 4 months of work. So after April every second I bill is gravy for the partners.

Well, there's always the GDC, which costs around $800 for the entire weekend, I believe, and has far better networking opportunities, especially with the biggest names in the business. It's usually easier to converse with people at GDC, so I've heard, and it's all about getting ideas and concepts out there, discussing design issues, things like that. It would probably be more beneficial.

Er...save for the fact that it costs a huge chunk of change, of course.

My wife and I went to Riveria Maia (next to Cancun), stayed at an adults-only, all-inclusive resort for $3k total. That included airfare. The resort was Secrets, very nice.

I think its just to keep non-game industry people out of it.
I'm sure that if you looked a little harder you could find a cheaper hotel. You would have to drive a little further everyday to get to E3

Damn!

And to think I got into Tokyo Game Show for about $10 without having to show any ID whatsoever.

(although it IS open to the public and nowhere NEAR as huge as E3....)

How long until it's possible to become a partner?

10 years but less than 1% will make it that far... I'll be shocked if I'm still around in 2007.

Dude, don't jump!

Yeah that is nuts. My friend from digipen who usually gets his tickets for free every year has to pay this year. Last year when i went, i believe i payed 200-250 for the 3 day pass + 350 for hotel + food + my mom paid the plane ticket. I guess i won't be going for a long while with these price jumps. Lol...my made up company name was Boscovision...named after my friends dog.
