Just saw this in the news. Don't even think Nintendo came up with the phrase, yet they've filed for a trademark.

The makers of the classic video-game franchise have filed a request with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office to trademark the pop-culture phrase, "It's on like 'Donkey Kong.' "

I'm really mostly curious whether they'll get it awarded than anything else...

Wouldn't that just mean that other companies wouldn't be able to use the phrase for advertising? I would think the fact that it already includes a trademarked product name would cover that.

Considering they own the name "Donkey Kong" I'm guessing they'll be granted it.

I would think since they already own Donkey Kong, they don't need to bother with this. In any case, I'm sure they're doing it to try and stop someone from using the phrase in another shitty romcom or from printing it on shirts and merch.
