Jack Thompson goes after Kotaku

Did you read the letter.

"these people are targeting me."

That right there proves in a legal court of law, What we've all known for years. He's a crazy old coot.

All of this because Jack's mom didn't love him enough.
Ignore him and it will fade away.
No he won't. He'll throw his bottle, and jump on the floor in a hissy fit.

He's already in front of the Florida Bar association on ethics charges for his court room behavior correct? If filing a false police report was added on, I would imagine being stripped of his license to practice is a no brainer. At the very least he should be sanctioned and admonished. Someone forward this to Florida bar association.

It is good, Thomson certainly barely from contact of actuality, or none of these fullness is attached clearly by many. But as for that there is the post of above-mentioned commenter being unnecessary completely you note and a value. Also Kotaku (clearly) the opinion of the poster -- and Thomson is ridiculous because of the thing which tries the fact that completely you insist relationship, but if certain -- and sarcasm, but the counter-result it is wording of the above-mentioned comment, it is a little ridiculous or there is no anything related to puerile.

Do us learn lesson perhaps at least from this, desire the fact that our chats can be kept at level of consciousness and the maturity which are raised?

The male of unlimited almighty is it's level 12 being my manhood which happens casted it inhales Jack Thomson for the chicken.

I remember when he tried to sic the FBI on Penny Arcade. PA made inquiries with the FBI and they basically agreed that he was nuts and that they were ignoring him.

He is a secret character in MK: Armagedon...WHAT MORE DOES HE WANT!??!

Didn't he have his license to practice law revoke? If yes, then... no, he doesn't.

God, I wonder what his family is like.

I think the Florida Bar Association is looking to dis-Bar him

Its actually hard to pick who I want to lose this more. Sure, JT is loud, ignorant, abrasive and delusional, but Kotaku is fucking Kotaku...
I don't read Kotaku, so please explain to me why everyone hates it so much.

Joystiq too, if you don't mind. I tend to get them mixed up.
They're just crappy blogs that fancy themselves "news" sites. The breaking news just in! And by breaking news, we mean the same shit you've read on everyone else blog 3 days after any worthwhile news source covered it!

not sure why but when I read the letter he wrote and it said "Dear FBI..." I bursted out laughing and stopped reading.
And by breaking news, we mean the same shit you've read on everyone else blog 3 days after any worthwhile news source covered it!
Examples.

Examples. Also, please cite what you think it a "worthwhile news source." Gamespot? IGN? They usually post stuff after the blogs have had a crack at it, mostly due to the more instantaneous nature of blogs.

Kotaku isn't a news site, it's a blog. Nowhere in the name of the site or the description does it even say the word "news":

As if you don't waste enough of your time in a gamer's haze, here's Kotaku: a gamer's guide that goes beyond the press release. Gossip, cheats, criticism, design, nostalgia, prediction. Don't get a life just yet.

The kotaku or Joystiq folks may not be covering world politics, but these blogs are about the closest thing the industry has to an actual news site. Sure, they're late on some things, but they also break certain stores, get exlusives, etc. Actually, that's no different than CNN or my local news station in terms of timing.

I think some people get all upset because they tend to have some opinion mixed in with their reporting. Which once again is no different than "real" news outlets. They just pay the readers the courtesy of saying 'I think...' rather than covering their agenda/dogma/bias in the tone of their report/article as many legitmate news sources do.

I'm not really sure what you want from video game "news." We need a new show called "60 Minutes.... of Games!!"?
I'm not really sure what you want from video game "news." We need a new show called "60 Minutes.... of Games!!"?
We already have it - G4TV

Oh god, not the "blogs vs. legitimate game journalists" debate again. Who cares? Get your game news from wherever you want. If you ask me, there ARE NO "legitimate game journalists" out there. They're all the same immature pack of monkeys who won't hesitate to make a wang joke in the middle of a product review.

Jack Thompson may be a douche but so is Kotaku. I only wish that they would both self collide and destruct upon one another. In fact both share similarities in exploiting tragedies and mis-reporting news in order to push a sensationalist Agenda. Bottom line

Kotaku = Jack Thompson
they might as well be in bed together

I'm annoyed with kotaku. they had used a video of mine and did not credit me for making it. I wasn't even a fan of theirs before that, simply because of the amount of mistakes they made on their stories in the past. So needless to say, I was kind of PO'ED by that so I emailed them asking what was up, to no response.

So needles to say, I was kind of POED by that so I emailed them asking what was up, to no response.
See, now that's a valid complaint and the type of thing that should be weighed in here on this. I had DS Fanboy (one of the branch-offs of Jostiq) use one of my DS Lite pics from when it hit Japan and I had an import pretty early on, with a nice crop to get rid of my unintrusive watermark, without so much as a nod in a comment where they got it. It wasn't a really big deal, but it kinda miffed me a bit.

However, some members around here equate blogging with horrific diseases that real people have to live with. It's that kind of jackassery that put them far below the level of the people they irrationally hate on that "I should be respected" scale. Seriously, can we all show even a shred of maturity? I guess not.

I'm not going to get too into this, but I will say one thing: local news and CNN fact-check their stories, and are held accountable for what they report. Blogs like Kotaku are not. In that way, the two things are nothing alike.

I just get the impression that some people around here hate blogs and are looking for some sort of super-source for news in our hobby. I don't really know what they're looking for. Lee, I'm sure you can attest, blogs make mistakes, print magazines make mistakes and rush things out before they should've been printed, though you'd hope the sites / magazines you pay for would do their homework better (and I'm sure they do), but the rise of the internet and impatient gamers needing to know the latest scoop yesterday has turned into the somewhat-muddy waters of blogs throwing any scrap of info up that they've got.

I wouldn't trust one of these blogs to help me understand a given candidates political stance or agenda, nor would I want them detailing for me incidents at war. But for something overall as trivial (and no offense Lee, but I think you understand where I'm coming from) as video games, I don't see a real huge problem with the blog setup. Part of it is kind of fun. Is that random story labeled rumor going to shake out to be true or not?

But, as always, to each their own.

I see your point, Daroga, as I often do. You're one of the "good ones" here at CAG.

Ours is a society of fast-service everything, including our game news/gossip. You'll put up with some incorrect/unsubstantiated rumors just to get a lot of things as quickly as possible. There's a reason you don't tip the cashiers at McDonald's, know what I mean?

Page 27 of his complaint:

77. The first Kotaku blogger out of the box, responding to Mr. Crecente’s tying
of the health of the video game industry and freedom as we know it to the success of The
Florida Bar against Thompson, stated in his post that “Jack [Thompson] should be shot.”
78. This was followed with other posts that Thompson should be struck with a
baseball bat, shot in the face by an irate gamer, castrated and his testicles stuffed down
his throat, and the exercise of other basic “constitutional” rights to advocate violence
against an individual………………………………………………………………Not!

I think I know who this was:

Not necessarily the best way to accomplish anything, but if a large number of people didn't want it that way, blogs wouldn't survive, especially not the corporate-esque ones like Joystiq and Kotaku.

If you don't like them, great, don't read them. Me personally? I enjoy it cause it can cull up a lot of things in one spot that I don't have to surf countless forums and smaller sites to find. Maybe I'll see that new, funny video like a whole 2 days after everyone else saw it. But, I'm really ok with that.
Apparently he has now SUED Kotaku:

"Thompson is an attorney in good standing with The Florida Bar and has been
since 1977."

Hardly.

lol, the lawsuit is suing "liberals and multiculturists". Hillarious.

The entire paper is a stack of horse shit. Almost every point in that suit is either an outright lie or mistruth. It looks like it was written by some kid in junior high.

Didn't he get debarred or something from Lousiana or another state?

I'm not even going to bother to read the whole thing. It's the same old shit as usual with him.

good, I like that he sued kotaku. now both of the douches can waste money on Legal fees and/or time. I hope they both kill each other.

What is your problem, man? If you don't like kotaku, fine, don't read it, but don't be such a whiner everytime a blog is mentioned. Ashcraft and the guys over there do a good job and make money doing what they love, more power to them.

I think it was Alabama, and soon to be Florida.

It's pretty clear by your constant rage that you're not actually upset with the quality of their work, but you're acutally just jealous of them and their jobs. Sorry. :(

not not really, they probably get paid jack since they're only bloggers. Gawker media probably sucks up a large portion of the money. Either way they work in the same manner of business as Jack Thompson so I see no reason in wishing them to self destruct upon each other. Whining my ass, more like telling it how it is. It's not even worth whining about really since they're both insignifigant. Kotaku used to be a good blog, now it's just pure sensationalist shit.

I'm glad he's moving away from Take 2 and onto other people who deserve it (though we all know he doesn't really have a strong case)

Ashcraft gets paid well enough to have quit the job he had for the Rocky Mountain newspaper and still support his family, I'd say that's good enough. It's not unlike Cheapy's situation, acutally. Care to elaborate on your blind rage? What the fuck did Kotaku or Gawker ever do to you? And how are they like Jack Thompson? I don't see how Kotaku is much different from CheapAssGamer, maybe you've got a problem with CAG, too? They do post stories on the front page, and Cheapy makes money off the site.

Gotta go with daroga on this one, reeks of jealousy at their cushy jobs. Guessing you aren't too fond of what you do for a paycheck. I know I'd love to write about videogames for a living.
