Jack Thompson is being a dick again...perpetually (Update: Bitchslapped by P-A.com)

I say we all take turns calling him.

In fact, let's set up a time sheet. We can all sign up and have assigned hours. Given that we have several late night CAGs we can do this round the clock with little overlap. And with a few hundred regular daily visitors, I'm sure we can fill up the sheet without worry.

As long as we all call from payphones or one time use cell phones, I'm sure we'll experience no legal repurcussion.

Also we can have a potluck dinner! I'll bring the lemon squares.

You too can go to sleep tonight knowing you drove a man insane(r)!

Just found this quote from Jack on one of the links through a joystiq article on the most recent events.
...I will say this though, the 'video game community' (what's next, 'the necromancy community'?) surely seems exercised about someone who is a 'joke' and who is accomplishing nothing. You all seem rather bothered and worried about a nonentity. God is in this battle, and I am privileged to be a foot soldier. You all should be concerned, not about me, but about Him."
:applause:

You should know that if someone asks you not to call again, and you do, that's harrassment.

I'll bring potato salad!

He's REALLY friendly on the phone
His phone number contains the number of the beast. I thought he said God was on his side...

I really loved this quote from him:
"The Bible doesn't promote killing innocent people," Thompson said. "Grand Theft Auto does. Islam does." (...) "Islam promotes the killing of innocent people," Thompson said. "The Quran requires the infidel, whether Jew or Christian, to be killed. That's a core essence of the religion. Muhammad was a pirate who killed infidels and who advocated the killing of infidels. Not a nice guy. Osama bin Laden is in keeping with his fine tradition."
Governor Bush has bigger fish to fry than the video game industry. His prison system is messed up, sexual predators are on the loose ebcause he doesnt give a damn to do what he can to keep them locked up, and crime in his cities is running rampant. The last thing he needs to do is attack video games.

When it comes to Islam, Thompson has no idea what he is talking about and I hope the Muslim community sues him. There is NO SUCH THING as holy war. The whole Jihad thing is the government and political leaders controlling through religion and making things up throgh interpretation. The Chrisitan religion did the same thing when the Pope ruled Europe. The name we have for this is the "Dark Ages", where ethnic groups were slaughtere, religious intolerance reigned supreme, and the crusades happened for no damn reason.

lets be honest all the bush's are idiots and none of them can do a good enough job.

There just good at kissing old people ass looking for votes and acting like good ole boys.

bashing video games= old people votes

putting all sexual offenders to a life prison term even if its an 18 year old banging a 16 year old= old people votes

morals= 0
Why is his name sometimes Jack and sometimes John?
because jack is a nickname for john.

I don't understand why they made it in his name. They should have contacted every media outlet that would listen to them first. Make him look bad on tv and in print and then after it has all blown up, make the donation in their name so that everyone and his mother knows what it was for.
I'm sure he will use that as a nice tax right off or something or claim it as his own for his own nefarious purposes.
Although I can't express how funny and cool it was for those guys to take the time to create that mod! I would have prefered that one of those "crazy" kids who plays gta or animal crossing finds his way to his house and beats him in the head until money pours out of his pockets.

Hell, as long as you only call until he tells you not to, you're fine. It's not harassment until he says to stop calling, especially when he puts his phone number on the interwebs. And if you're worried about it, just use a calling card.

BTW, I'm all for that idea. I called him a few times earlier today, before I even saw this
"However, it appears Thompson did neglect to send the letter to one very important party. As of 9:55 a.m. PDT, the Seattle Police Department confirmed to GameSpot that it had not received any such fax from Thompson."
woops
woops
Reading the entire article helps.
Thompson has since e-mailed GameSpot again, saying that he has fixed the URL and apparently faxed the letter, commenting, "They have it now." Thompson added, "The moral midgets like the computer geeks at Penny Arcade think that I am some sort of pixelated piñata in a game. I'm not. Gabe [the in-comic alter ego of Penny Arcade artist Krahulik] decided to go after me, and he chose the wrong target. I've been at this longer than he has."
Oh man. PLEASE let's start calling him. Maybe he'll finally come to this site and attempt to get me arrested!

I AM TEH MASTARMINDS!!111

Mr Thompson bases his campaign pretty much against teenagers. I guess thats whom he feels comfortable arguing with or about.

He came here?
Err, not sure how I typed in back in there without noticing, but to my knowledge, no, he hasn't been here.
...as far as we know...we better watch what we say, or we might get lawsuit'd :whistle2:$ :whistle2:#

Funny yet true quote from 1up.com:

the man picked a perfect target in his bid for infamy, because gamers as a breed are genetically incapable of ignoring trolls. Always have been, always will be. ~Jeremy Parish of 1up.com

Given that every piece of correspondence I've seen by Jack has been borderline incoherent (and unprofessionally mistake-filled), I just can't understand why anyone in the media takes him seriously.

i love how he doesnt understand the 1st ammendment at all, with video games and with satire of his public image. Someone must have gotten a good person sitting next to him while taking the bar

Probably because he is saying what some people want to hear.

Just remember this now, hes making his point look completely bad, so video games are now gaining from this!

SCORE ONE FOR VIDEO GAMES!
JT is apparently going to be on Anderson Cooper 360 tonight 7 PM EST.
yeah talking about blitz the league *gasps*

I hope he utters something about penny arcade just so they can grill him even more
http://www.chatterboxgameshow.com/

They have a podcast interview with jack-o on their site. It's worth checking out. The guy is really an idiot.
Listening to this right now: I'll give ya some of the "greatest fucks".

Will update as I come across more

Haha yeah there are some real gems in that interview.

Update from GS:
[UPDATE]: GameSpot once again called the Seattle Police Department to confirm receipt of Thompson's fax. As of 2:31 p.m. PDT, Kerlikowske's office still had not received any communication from Thompson.

GameSpot spoke with Khoo earlier today about Thompson's accusations. "We were really surprised that he is actually reacting this way," Khoo said. "I don't think he really realizes who Penny Arcade is and what sort of support we can rally. And where our place is in the [game] industry.

"I really don't expect him to know who we are, but I'm pretty sure he just thinks we are either just bunch of kids or someone who probably does not know what they are doing, and that he can scare off with idle threats and threats of legal actions."

As far as that goes, Khoo says that Penny Arcade, which is no stranger to Internet dust-ups and threatened legal action, isn't overly concerned with Thompson's accusations.

"I've spoken to our legal team this morning and every one of his claims that he has made is pretty ridiculous, especially given the fact that he's a public figure. His grounds for harassment, criminal harassment, is pretty silly," Khoo said. "He puts himself out there as a public figure going up against the game industry. Does he really not expect that the game industry's going to fight back?

"Maybe he really doesn't really know what he's getting himself into."
Also it looks like the segment with JT is about to come up on 360.

I don't think anyone should be really surprised. I mean really, when you have the gall to call into question then Attorney General Janet Reno's sexuality in a public debate by handing her a piece of paper with a multiple choice question that reads:

I, Janet Reno, am a:

1) Homosexual
2) Bisexual
3) Heterosexual

and then has extra wording to follow that says:

If you don't respond by such a date, then you will be deemed to have checked one of the first two boxes.

can anyone say this man isn't one sandwich short of a picnic? I mean, she's obviously a man. ;)
Coming up after the break...WACKO JACKO!!

turn to CNN now!!
Yeah this looks to be pretty underwhelming unfortunately.

wow he has no tact, what an ass, I mean the game thing I can understand for being a greedy asshole, but this is a personal attack that is completely out of line. I wish she would have decked him.

Oh God Anderson Cooper is a sensationalist.

"It's not touted as being sanctioned by the NFL. Which is like it being banned."

WTF. THATS BECAUSE EA IS A fuckTARD COMPANY ASSHOLE WITH A VICE GRIP ON OFFICIAL LICENSING. It has NOTHING to do with this game and it's material.

Sigh I hate people who don't know shit about shit.

"where as video games are normally associated with children, that is clearly not the case anymore"

yeah....no shit. thank you captain obvious.

I can't beleive I left that show on for an hour just to see a few seconds of them bashing a generic football game.

I was thinking the same damn thing. I was just thinking way to present the whole fucking story asshole. Additionally, how is the violence in Blitz worse than the violence in Madden or HELL, any sunday afternoon football game?!?!?!

It's in stores today! DON'T GO TO STORES!

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T GO TO THE STORES!

THERE COULD BE GIANT TICKS EVERYWHERE!!

I was referencing Lewis Black, did I somehow channel something else? (is probably going to get IP at TRU)

More on the unofficial licensing thing: Does anyone honestly think the NFL would NOT jump at the chance to to get more money from licensing, especially if it is a sensationalized game that might have fairly good sales depending on it's material? I'm sure they would think it was cool as hell, being run by detached, out of touch people who simply want as much money as they can possibly get.
