James Bond (BR) (Steelbooks) $24.99 - Moonraker, Goldfinger, The World Is Not Enough

Hmm... good prices for the steelbooks, I'll consider this. I want Goldeneye out on BD soon!

Classic bond movies, Very good price.

Odd that the first batch of steelbooks were Best Buy exclusives, and now, the next batch are showing up on Amazon.com.

There's supposed to be three more besides the above ones coming out on BR on 03/24/09, though it's not known yet what they are.
I just hate the covers of the Bond Blus.
The ones with Pierce Brosnan always look the worst.
I don't think I can justify an upgrade on TWINE. I mean, Dr. Christmas Jones? Really?
But Christmas only comes once a year right?

I have a gift card for BB I had been saving for the 2nd round of Steelbooks, splitting retailers like this really sucks (not to mention blows the chance of getting a PM with Fry's like last time...).

I'm not ordering until some of the confusion is straightened out, or it gets closer to the date and appears they really aren't releasing 6.

(and I hate ordering Steelbooks online because they're so fragile and Amazon's idea of packing material is one air bubble in a huge empty box)

Thanks for the heads up...I purchased the first 2 volumes when on the DotD amazon deal in novemeber and just recently watched Dr. No and From Russia With Love. I had never watched a 007 before so it was sweet to experience it from the start and on Blu Ray. However we stopped at those 2 because the 3rd movie isnt on either of the first two volumes.

I dont get why these arent in order but at least with Goldfinger being included in volume 3 I can watch that followed by thunderball.

Then there is a gap of 3 more movies before Live and Let Die from volume one, /sigh

I don't believe that's true anymore.

It appears that Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, Spy Who Loved Me, Licence to Kill, Goldeneye and World is Not Enough are coming out in Region 4 (Australia, South America) on March 18th. They're also getting Quantum of Solace.

However in Region 1 (U.S., Canada) and Region 2 (Europe, West Asia) it seems we're just getting Goldfinger, Moonraker and The World is Not Enough from the back catalog on March 24th. Region 1 & 2 are also getting Quantum of Solace and Never Say Never Again (the non-canon Connery Bond movie that came out in '83 against Octopussy) that day.

I'm pretty sure they would have announced any others by this point.

I have to imagine they'll do 6 movies in late-July and the final 5 (or 6 if they triple dip Casino Royale) in late-November giving them space roughly equal to the 5 months between the first six BRs and the new three. I assume whomever owns the right will release the putrid 1967 Casino Royale on Blu along with one of the upcoming release blocks. Here's hoping they include the decent 1954 Casino Royale on that Blu like on most versions of the DVD...

They break up the order to try to get people to buy lesser Bond movies when they get better ones. If you put Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger in one set you get a ton of sales. But then later you get stuck putting Octopussy, A View to a Kill and Licence to Kill together (or something like that) which just wouldn't sell. So by pairing a great Bond (Goldfinger) with a putrid Bond (Moonraker) it helps the lesser ones sell without hurting the good ones...

Bringing out all 22 (or 23 or 24 or 25 depending on how you count) at once would just be too expensive...

[Sorry for the back-to-back posts]

Why don't they do it by actors? Like the Connery Collection or the Brosnan collection? The only ones I want to buy are GE, TND, WINE and DAD.

I wonder if Never Say Never Again is going to get a steelbook or at least a similar style cover with the other blu ray. With MGM owning the rights they should just make it official.

bought another 2 for my family members. james bond is something my uncle and cousin loves. hope they like it when i give it to them on their birthday!

Because the Dalton collection wouldn't sell.

BWOzar covered it pretty well. It's all about marketing, and asstastic for collectors.

It's not in the same style as the other Bond Blu-Rays which is interesting because Eon/MGM (the Bond copyright holder) recently acquired the rights to Never Say Never Again and licence it out along with the official movies for TV use. I assume because it isn't an official canon 007 movie they elected to go with a different style.

I have no idea about a steelbook, but I'm going to guess not.

As an aside to those that don't know Never Say Never Again is really a remake of 1965's Thunderball (the 4th movie) that came about because of complexities in the licensing contracts. Orion got the rights to Thunderball and made the movie in the 80s to compete directly with MGM/UA's Moore Bond movies (many fans were sick of Moore esp. post-Moonraker in '79). MGM ended up acquiring Orion a few years back (and since then Sony has acquired MGM). Never Say Never Again narrowly lost to Octopussy in total box office when they both opened in 1983 (June for Octopussy/October for NSNA). The title comes from Connery himself: after Diamonds Are Forever opened in 1971 Connery was asked if he would return to 007 and he replied never again.

Amazon just posted Never Say Never Again, it's $24.49 as of now.

Anybody plan on importing Goldeneye? I'm thinking of it myself unless we get a confirmation of a date. I am really only interested in Moonraker and Goldfinger out of this latest volume and why they chose TWINE over Goldeneye or Tomorrow Never Dies is puzzling.

A producer named Kevin McClory contributed some of the story of Thunderball for Ian Fleming's novel, and when the idea of filming it came around, McClory demanded credit and it led to an ugly legal situation that went on for years, eventually ending up with him having remake rights to Thunderball. He tried to do it several times in the 70s, under the names "Warhead" and "James Bond of the secret service", but couldn't get financing. The relatively low-budget film they ended up making had to drop some of the more elaborate ideas they had, like battles in Washington DC (though they should have kept the girl called Justine Lovesit).

Anyhoo, Goldfinger and Moonraker should both be spectacular on Blu-Ray. TWINE, ehh, well let's admit it, it is the worst Bond film ever made, but if you don't buy it, there'd be a hole in the collection.

Woohoo! A fellow 007 nerd...

But really TWINE the worst Bond ever? I mean it's not good (and Richards is horrendous), but you'd really take A View to a Kill or Octopussy over TWINE? Hell I'd take TWINE over Moonraker too (as you can guess I'm not a fan of the goofier Moore Bonds).

NOOO!!!!!

"Why did i run into this thread"......Screamed out my wallet

Huge bond fan, and i told myself that i wasn't going to upgrade by JB collection untill Goldeneye comes out on Blu-ray.

But Limited Edition Steelbooks!!!!!!!! How....can iii. noott.

Regarding the first Best Buy exclusives. Can anyone tell me which movies those where? I must hunt them down. Thanks.

Dr. No, Die Another Day, Live and Let Die, For Your Eyes Only, From Russia with Love and Thunderball.

They were 20 around Christmastime, not sure what they're going for now though.

Moore? TWINE? Worst? HA.

Die. Another. Day.

End of discussion.

(Though, really, TWINE could really only ever be third worst at best, since DAD is followed VERY closely by Diamonds Are Forever. Blofeld in drag? Genius! *weeps*)

Yep, TWINE is dead last for me. It's just dull, dull, dull all the way through. At least with those Moore films there's a good sense of fun and some decent action, like Moonraker has the skydiving and the fight in the glass museum etc. TWINE just never, ever gets exciting or interesting and there's just a going-through-the-motions feel to the whole thing. People diss Denise Richards a lot, but has anyone looked at Brosnan's performance in this film? Ugh! At least with Connery it took around five films before he started phoning it in!

That crazy ass deal at Amazon has spoiled me as far as Bond on Blu....
I will wait patiently for some similar madness...;)

Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist? Really? REALLY??

I really wanted to feel like the steelbooks for these were worth it, but when I saw the set going for 50 with all 3 movies I decided to put my money towards that rather than 2 movies for 25 each, that's just a bit too steep even if it's a steelbook.
Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist? Really? REALLY??
TWIN is actually one of my favorite Bond movies (although Ive only seen the most recent six), it might have to do with the fact that I was about nine when I first saw it, so I didn't find anything odd about Denise Richards being a nuclear physicist lol. I'll definitely pick this one up at some point.
Just got all 3 today! Now I've completed 70 steelbooks! :D
