Japan Internet suicide deaths soar to 91 in 2005

Huh... What ever floats your boat. Whos to say who's allowed to live and whos not? Some people argue you don't have the right to kill others, but do you really have the right to keep others from killing themselves? Its not as though theres tons of room in Japan either.

I'm not revelling in the fact that people kill themselves, but hey, they're happy and we have more room.

There's so much pressure in Japan to succeed, to get into a good college, to get a job at a prestigous corporation immediately after college that this news doesn't surprise me. In a way, I wish America had Japan's ambition, but alas, failure does lead to higher suicide rates.

Though I'm sure myke would love to chime in on these statistics. ;)

This is the fucked up part:
"The best solution would be if we could break into the chat rooms and start communicating with people directly," Misaki said.

There are some hopeful signs, however.

From October, several communications industry groups began providing police with information on people who posted messages suggesting they might be close to committing suicide.
Just let them die in peace.

Though I may be wrong, I don't goths make up a large percentage of the U.S. suicide rate. If I had to guess, my bet would be on 1) younger teenages/adults who realize they're gay and are confused and/or afraid to come out and 2) children with emotional problems. It all stems from depression.

I'd agree with most of that. I don't think it is sexuality as much as it is a general feeling of failure in many things that a person does. It seems to be a combination of things that usually leads up to it. I am not a psychology expert though.

Being goth is all about annoying people with how miserable you are living in a semi affluent white suburb where cleaning your room is the most henious task to be forced upon you. Thats hard to do when you're dead.

In the name of levity...

What does a goth do on Halloween? Seriously, do they dress up like their favorite Saved By the Bell characters and scare their friends?
