Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

I was pretty underwhelmed by ray gigant. The pretty idle animation in fights is all that's pretty about it. Attack animations are the same old dungeon crawler slash across the screen. From what I saw of the story in the demo, it was very Neon Genesis Evangelion-y. The main character is all like I don't wanna fight. And the others were all assholes about making him fight. That's just from what I saw and it could get better. I dunno, seems like a standard drpg I wouldn't pay more than $20 for.

Well that's unfortunate. That's got to be my least favorite anime trope, with the possible exception of clueless harem protagonist or "the darkness in my heart".

That's (official) artwork from Guilty Gear Vastedge...A Pachi-Slot game...yeah, thought more than likely, that design of Dizzy based on that game might be more or less what might look like. But we'll see once they actually show her fully.

Also, I'm wondering if everyone got a cancellation/refund from that "deepdiscounts" site for Senra Kagura ES on VITA?

I haven't gotten one but I know a few ppl did.

Yeah, I read the same thing on Amazon. Now, it is not saying that, but they do have the Steel book like UltimateIdiot911 above mentioned.

 
50 minutes of Digimon World: Next Order gameplay
A Dengeki Online stream today featured nearly an hour of gameplay from Digimon World: Next Order, due out for PS Vita on March 17 in Japan. The gameplay can be found at the following times in the video: 14:40 – 27:50 (starts from the beginning of the game), 32:35 – 42:30, & 50:10 – 1:21:20.
 
Star Ocean 5’s PS4 vs PS3 Differences Explained: 1080p, 60 FPS vs 720p, 30 FPS and More
During a livestream hosted today, Square Enix showcased the differences and similarities between the PS4 and PS3 versions of Star Ocean 5: integrity and Faithlessness.

The image that you can see below indicates that the content of the game will be the same across both platforms, cross-save won’t be supported. The PS4 version features the full share suite and PS Vita remote play, while the PS3 version has none of them. Frame rate will be 60 FPS (variable in some areas) on PS4 and 30 FPS (variable in some areas) on PS3, meaning that frame rate won’t always be locked at those values. Resolution will be 1080p and 720p respectively.
 
Finally, the PS4 has higher detail on physics, characters, backgrounds, effects, and higher draw distance for objects and enemies. The PS3 version has shorter draw distance and some parts are “reduced and simplified.”

I will get Bravely Default Second when it's less than $20 for sure....also doesn't help I haven't played the original at all...haha. Lots of censoring though....no comment from me, but I've already ranted about Steam versions of visual novels when 18+ versions are available.

I don't see this as a bad thing. I think it's good they're asking people what they think about mobile rather than going all in just because it seems to be the trend. This way, if a lot of their fans say they don't like mobile games, they'll get that feedback.

Hopefully they'll look at feedback and maybe cut back on the mobile a little... and work on getting a PDS remake or sequel going. Anyway, they'll probably throw mine out because under gender I put attack helicopter but I blame Sonic.

Did pretty much the same. They were really trying to push mobile, so basically told them 90% mobile games are defective, incomplete, money grubbing, time wasting, pieces of trash. And the ones that weren't I wouldn't pay more than a couple of bucks for.
